'bout freakin' time for this one, as iconic a late 70s jam as there isInspired by the Convoy pick yesterday, so let's get this in as my 1979 song:

It's taken me over thirty years to come to this realization and I am somewhat ashamed to admit it. Yet it is the truth and it must be spoken. The devil's fiddle solo was better than Johnny's. There, I said it and I don't take it back.Inspired by the Convoy pick yesterday, so let's get this in as my 1979 song:

well, to be fair, he (Devil) did have a band of demons join in ...It's taken me over thirty years to come to this realization and I am somewhat ashamed to admit it. Yet it is the truth and it must be spoken. The devil's fiddle solo was better than Johnny's. There, I said it and I don't take it back.
29.xx "Concierto de Aranjuez" - Jim Hall (Wildcard song)
Desmond and Baker have always had some of the prettiest tone on their instruments.
Definitely one of those novelty songs like Mr Jaws someone mentioned earlier. Big fun at the time, and great to look back "All those years ago" but more like something of a B Side collection in your K-Tel Box Set / Have a Nice Decade ultimate collection thingyI (of course) loved this song as a kid, and bought into the whole CB craze, getting a home CB (complete with huge antenna on the roof) for my 10th birthday.
The song itself doesn't quite hold up for me (the chorus is just so weak sounding for a "tough" trucker song), but that doesn't make it any less nostalgic.

Fishheads!For my final wildcard pick:
Fred Blassie- "Pencil Neck Geek"- wildcard song
How many of you guys listened to Dr. Demento?
Added bit of trivia: the guitarist on this song was Billy Zoom of X fame.
It's hard to say because he's going so damned fast, but I think the guy who put the linked video together caught every artist mentioned in the song.
For those that didn't know, the album came out picturing a carved up school desk . The front lifted from the bottom (like a school desk).30.xx: ALICE COOPER - School's Out (1972 song)
GOOD BYE E-M-I ...30.xx - EMI - Sex Pistols - 1977 song
Draft over for me. Salud. I'll be checking in and editing with write-ups, etc.
This is true. It's even more true of that blues movie Crossroads in which the Devil's guitarist (Steve Vai) blows Daniel-san out of the water. It's taken me over thirty years to come to this realization and I am somewhat ashamed to admit it. I take it that's not the same Crossroads with Britney SpearsThis is true. It's even more true of that blues movie Crossroads in which the Devil's guitarist (Steve Vai) blows Daniel-san out of the water.

This was my first TimDraft---haven't even really lurked in one before that I can recall. How do they typically go?Most pleasant TimDraft ever!

Yea, this was fun. The one pick a day worked well, and there's a ton of good music in here. Most pleasant TimDraft ever!
I almost took September Gurls as my 1974 song. I might regret that.rd. 29
Radio City - Big Star (wildcard album)
power pop milestone, and Chilton and co. bring it in glorious jangling chords, wrapped around some of the crispest sounding chops ever laid down.
long a personal favorite of mine, and it's influence is evident in every note. a perfect slice of mid 70s brilliance.
an all-time top 10 song for me is the shimmering goodness of September Gurls
"i never travel far, without a little Big Star ..."
Usually one or both of: somebody quitting, or people getting impatient and we try to wrap it up in 2 days 1/2 way through the thing. This was my first TimDraft---haven't even really lurked in one before that I can recall. How do they typically go?
I'm partial to 3rd/Sister Lovers--selected it mid draft, but love this one too.rd. 29

Maybe they should have combined the 2 movies. Britney on screen and Steve Vai dubbing in all her guitar work.Eephus said:I take it that's not the same Crossroads with Britney Spears![]()
Too bad for them. The rest of us got all the good songs.DougB and Higgins owe 2 picks, OTB owes 1 pick, and Rove! owes a lot of picks.
Hardly... one could still draft a list of songs that would be competitive with the rest, even after spotting 21 x 15 songs.Too bad for them. The rest of us got all the good songs.
I didn't see it get picked, but perhaps i missed it. I did look up the Village People, just to be thorough. And I noticed that they did a cover of "Just a Gigolo". I had only heard DLRoth's version until I saw this. Funny stuff.did YMCA really not get drafted?
Norwood was kidding. The 70s has an endless amount of great songs.Hardly... one could still draft a list of songs that would be competitive with the rest, even after spotting 21 x 15 songs.Too bad for them. The rest of us got all the good songs.
