2 round mock draft in the books ! (1 Viewer)

It won't be a safety, I am can be fairly sure of that one.

Again, put me down for Lawson. But I'd be fine with Carpenter.

Oh, and Wimbley is good if they trade down.....

Chargers:

Needs: OT, WR, S

Options: Holmes, C Jackson, Whitner

I'm going to go with Chad Jackson here.

With the 18th pick, the Dallas Cowboys select Manny Lawson, LB/DE, N.C. State

I was all set to go with Whitner here, but Chaos Commish is right, a guy who goes 6'5 250 and runs a 4.4 40 are rare. He and Ware are ideal bookends for a 3-4 LB corps, and this pick just makes sense. I think Manny opened a lot of eyes at the combine and moved into round 1.

Onward to S.D. this will be intriguing. Needs in the secondary, at WR, at OT. Where do the Chargers go?
Boo!!!Just kidding.

Whoooo Hooooo!!!! It will be fun to watch these two OLBs create havoc for the next 5-10 years......

I'm a little late here with the Dallas pick but...

OT, LB, FS, WR. These positions need to be filled this off-season. Some will be filled in FA. But I guess this mock assumes none are signed.

OT - McNeil, Scott, Winston probably in that order

LB - Lawson, Carpenter, Wimbley probably in that order

FS - If they go FS, they should trade down.

WR - Jackson, Holmes, Moss. Again probably a little early but not a huge reach.

I look at the choices and can't see how they won't trade down. There are so many choices, so why not pick up an extra pick and still get one?

Since this mock assumes no trades, I'd go with either Lawson or Carpenter. There will be OT, FS and WR around in the 2nd and 3rd. Of course they'll be LBers too but I think these two are the biggest difference makers. In fact, I think Lawson might go as high as #12 to Cleveland.

Chad Jackson seems to be the right pick to me. Santonio Holmes I think will drop some because of "character ? " issues.

I don't think the Chargers draft a WR just becuase they have to.

With the talent at the WR position, they're better off going another direction. Even though Chad Jackson is faster than thought. Vincent Jackson is fast too.

I was ready to go Whitner, but the masses seem to want Jackson here.

That's fine with me.

With the 19th pick, San Diego selects Chad Jackson, WR, Florida

I was thinking S or OT here, but without a true #1 WR maybe they take a shot on a guy with 6'1" size and 4.32 speed to be their go-to guy.

That brings up Kansas City, who needs help all over the defense (what else is new?), especially at CB and D-line, and also could use a top WR.

S are over rated.
Actually they are very good, very very good. There's just a very long list of very good safeties. I can think of three I think are on par with Jimmy Williams and Michael Huff.SD should also go OT.

I think I had McNeill there in version 1, but people seem to think they'll go WR.

Tye Hill for KC. Too much passing in the AFC West not to have strong CB play. Maybe Kiwi to provide a passrush. Don't see any DTs that represent value here.

I know. It's a democratic mock, and that's fine. CJ has tons of hype right now, but the boy is raw as all get out. Santonio Holmes is still probably WR1. Close though. A couple times in the 80s and in 90 NO WRs were drafted in round 1. This is a great year for that. It is a weak class, very weak, but oddly deep with interesting players.

KC - Tye Hill. If we don't pick him soon Bloom is going to lock this thread.
:lmao: I had him to New England with the next pick in version 1, and Youboty here, IIRC, but I think Hill's likely passed Youboty with that 4.29 at he combine, so I was leaning that way with this pick as well.

OK, I'm jumping on this one.

With the 20th pick, Kansas City takes Tye Hill, CB, Clemson

The Chiefs need a lockdown corner and Hill is as likely a candidate as there is in this draft to become one.

The once-mighty Patriots are now on the clock, and for a change, they actually have a number of needs. CB? LB? WR? RB? Lots of ways they could go here.

The obvious pick here is Youboty but I really think the Pats might go LB here. Expecially if McGinest ends up getting cut. They really need some depth in the middle of their defense.

Youboty is a consideration, as are Cromartie, Wimbley, Ryans, Holmes, Moss, or Maroney

 I can't believe I worked through the KC pick.

You picked the right guy

You have to love how the Chargers pick just got stopped ;)

Kind of tough decision here. But with DeMeco Ryans still available I think they take him though there is an argument to be made for Youboty or Laurence Maroney . But they do need a Linebacker so that's my pick.

I like Carpenter here too. I find NE, Seattle, Denver, and Baltimore to be very hard to project.

Onward to S.D. this will be intriguing. Needs in the secondary, at WR, at OT. Where do the Chargers go?
Their starter at free safety is Bhawoh Jue.Whitner is the pick.
Jue is adaquate at FS. SS is a bigger need, although that can be addressed in free agency.

I think the Pats are holding their cards close to the vest as usual. This is a big if but if the Pats think Mathias Kiwanuka can play OLB in their 3-4, I think he is the pick. He would be a great bookend with Colvin and learning for a year behind McGinest if he doesnt leave.

I dont think the Pats CB situation is as bad as first thought. Now that Eugene Wilson has proven that without Rodney Harrison, he is not a great safety, I see the Pats moving him back to CB and signing a FA safety (there are a few decent ones available). Wilson, Samuel, Hobbs and Gay are a decent young group at CB.

If Kiwi cant play OLB, I see the Pats taking Bobby Carpenter. Another Versatile Mike Vrabel-like LB.

I hadn't considered Wimbley. On second thought, I think he has risen this high and fits the scheme better. McGinest is old, and they need to keep the pressure on from the outside. I don't know if we can over rule the others, but I like it better than Ryans.

Kiel was supposed to be so good. Very disappointing. Still I think they can address this with nearer to equal value in the second, but cannot find an OT quite as equal in the next round.

To keep things moving :

With the 21st pick, the New England Patriots select Kamerion Wimbley, LB/DE, Florida State

He's a big, fast LB and will fit well into the New England 3-4 scheme.

Next up, the Broncos, from Washington. D-line? Safety? RB? WR?

Disclaimer: I like Carpenter and Wimbley better for NE, but at the time I posted the pick, everyone was on Ryans. I will likely change this in my final version.

Carpenter for NE. As mentioned, he is a Vrabel type.

Ryans is only 225 pounds. That is way too small to play in a 3-4.

Wimbley is an option. Definitely an athelete. But Carpenter has more of the all-around game that seems to fit in NE.

If Lendale White or DeAngelo Williams are available I think they will be the property of NE. I dont think they are as high on Maroney. If LW and DW are gone, they will wait and take Joseph Adai in the 2nd or Jarius Norwood in the 3rd.

Kiwanuka makes a ton of sense if he grades out fast enough to play 3-4 OLB.

This isn't the Soviet Union. They are stuck with Ryans.
