They have to declare before the SB, I believe by Jan 15, so we will know all the underclassmen.is it only people who declared? what about the maybes (matt leinart)

Take good care of our Skins in this draft. And don't draft Brunell.Ill take the Skins
:lame:So, There will be no trading.
I agree with aaron. Give him an extra 7th rounder for Henry.:lame:So, There will be no trading.why can't I move Travis Henry for a pick if another team wants him?you're really killing our chances of having a decent draft with this no trade rule.

BURN!I agree with aaron. Give him an extra 7th rounder for Henry.
this is a good idea - if everyone has the time now to do it - we can just draft based on the reg season records. this will get everyone familiarized with all the top prospect and team needs - so the "real" mock will go faster and be more informed. Why are we waiting? We can do a draft that ends before the Super Bowl so lets do one. We can just make a prediction on the draft order and chances are we will not be that far off.Pats win it over the Packers with the Steelers and Eagles losing in the championship game. ( I am a Colts fan)Lets draft!!!Tom
Bloom, you in a hurry or something?trades would make this way too complicated and take a lot longer.
The mock draft hasn't even started yet and it is already far fetched. The Steelers not winning the SB.Why are we waiting? We can do a draft that ends before the Super Bowl so lets do one. I've got the Colts over the Falcons with Pittsburgh and St. Louis losing the Champ. games.....The mock draft hasn't even started yet and it is already far fetched. The Steelers not winning the SB.![]()
Unfortunately I tend to agree with this. Unfortunate because I might be interested in trading picks...I agree that mocks with trades in them get way out of hand and are distorted.
Relax Aaron, you won't need that extra pick for Henry to trade up to get Maurice Clarett he'll be there for the Bills with their 2nd rd pick to replace McGahee.I'm guessing we'll wind up with at least a dozen or so of these mock drafts before April. That's what we do here once football ends.If you want this to be trade-free, that's cool. Sometimes, the mocks that allow trading do tend to get a little far fetched. You set this up, so I'm cool with whatever you want to do. I just know I'm sitting with a pick in the 50's and Henry is prime trade bait to try and get some more picks for my squad. Allowing trading gives some of us GMs without too many picks a chance to participate instead of just sitting around and waiting.I guess it comes down to this:Would you like this draft to try and be as accurate as possible at predicting which players go where?ORIs this just a way to start off all our draft talk to get an idea of what kind of demand there is out there for players, and to potentially open our eyes to some trade possibilities that might exist?I'm thinking if the goal is accuracy and realism, then not allowing trades is the way to go. But, if you want to just let things fly and see where that takes us, that could also be a fun way to go. Some GMs will undoubtedly make bad or silly looking trades, and some will make shrewd moves that the actual GMs would probably only dream of. It still can be fun to explore those possibilities and they would provide plenty of room for discussion. There is also something to be said for a GM that wants a particular player, but who realizes that it is too soon to take him. If another GM wants to move up to get a guy they really want, no reason to not allow that to happen.Which leads me to a 3rd option: you could allow the trading of draft picks, but not allow the trading of players. Players get traded so rarely in the NFL these days, so that wouldn't be all that unrealistic, but it would still give owners flexibility to move around, stockpile picks, etc. I wouldn't be able to move Henry, but that's not a huge deal.Anyway, I'm barely picking in this thing, so don't let me tell you what to do. Do whatever you think is best, or wait for others to chime in with what they want and we'll go from there.I do think at least some trading should be allowed though...no point in being overly rigid this long before draft day.
not at all, its just that trades increase the possibilities for a pick 10fold:who do you trade the pick to?do you trade for picks or players?which players?if we are fielding all kinds of offers and countering and so on, itll become mind-bogglingly complicated. remember that these teams only have 15 minutes at most on the clock, theres no way we can reproduce that - itll cause analysis paralysis.edit: with the giants, i am stuck not picking until the 2nd round, so yeah, i am in a hurry.Bloom, you in a hurry or something?trades would make this way too complicated and take a lot longer.![]()
I like this idea. We could link to a draft pick value chart and use that. I wouldn't be against allowing the trading of players we think we know are going to get traded.Which leads me to a 3rd option: you could allow the trading of draft picks, but not allow the trading of players. Players get traded so rarely in the NFL these days, so that wouldn't be all that unrealistic, but it would still give owners flexibility to move around, stockpile picks, etc. I wouldn't be able to move Henry, but that's not a huge deal.
edited for accuracy.Hollatyaboy, where are you?the 49ers ar eon the clockWouldn't St. Louis and Seattle both be below the non-playoff teams in the draft order?
I agree, Leinart is gone. I'm sure he'd like to stay, he be will leaving college at the perfect time - right after a memorable game against the Sooners for his 2nd national title. I can't see him passing on roughly $40 million and possibly tarnishing his college record to come back another year. He has nothing to prove since anything less than a national title next year would be a disappointment.ltaylor, I say you jut start now with no time limit we have nothing but time. trade don't really matter to me if we have them or not.SF 9 ers - are on the clock. But has leinart declared yet? I say he is gonna.
if you want input from another giants homer, let me know via pm ,will be glad to give my advice. both on what I would like them to do, and how they will actually mess up.not at all, its just that trades increase the possibilities for a pick 10fold:who do you trade the pick to?do you trade for picks or players?which players?if we are fielding all kinds of offers and countering and so on, itll become mind-bogglingly complicated. remember that these teams only have 15 minutes at most on the clock, theres no way we can reproduce that - itll cause analysis paralysis.edit: with the giants, i am stuck not picking until the 2nd round, so yeah, i am in a hurry.Bloom, you in a hurry or something?trades would make this way too complicated and take a lot longer.![]()

Mike Williams said all the same things last year.I'm not saying he will or he won't, but it would really be very stupid for him to stay another year when he could already be the #1 pick in the draft this year and guarantee himself security for the rest of his life. A lot of bad things can happen in a year. The only speculation that Leinart is coming out is from this board. He has said to ESPN, to the LA Times and to Jimmy Kimmel (LOL) that he is leanoing towards returning.Tom

That's basically what i was trying to do is just get it started and just run with it. i don't want to have it where everyone has to be here at a certain time and there is some 5 minute time limit because that would defeat the purpose of the thread. I want people to make an insightful explanation as to why they picked who they did which takes time. And like you said we have plenty of it. i am going to post on the first page of that the draft has started and that if hollaatyaboy doesn't pick by Sunday we will give him Leinart.ltaylor, I say you jut start now with no time limit we have nothing but time. trade don't really matter to me if we have them or not.SF 9 ers - are on the clock. Not trying to cause problems, but isn't that a little bit conflicting??I agree, Leinart will declare and will 95% be the #1 pick in the draft, but shouldn't we let the 49ers make the decision and post insightful commentary along with it?... i don't want to have it where everyone has to be here at a certain time and there is some 5 minute time limit because that would defeat the purpose of the thread. That's not true. I recall Carnell Williams not saying anything and then after the deadline pointing out the obvious fact that he said nothing about declaring and that he would be returning. His return surprised most people. He has to say that he's returning or else he is admitting that he's declaring.
dolfan, there is no time limit "within reason". If he hasnt picked by then that will have been 4 days since the guy put in his name for the 49ers without any show of him since then. At that point he his is for all practical purposes a "no show" IMO. I woulld be happy to assign an alternate if we know of someone who is online that will pick for the 49ers with good knowledge. If you want, I can take over the 49ers drafting. My pick would be Leinart - I just don't see anyone worth taking that high (assuming D'Brick Ferguson doesn't declare). The real 49ers will look to trade down if anyone really wants Leinart. They have a lot of positions to fill, especially OL, and they would love to trade down 10 spots or so and get Alex Barron.dolfan, there is no time limit "within reason". Hey, who are the real 49ers anyway? The real 49ers will look to trade down if anyone really wants Leinart.
We really need to wait until the 15th to start this.
I believe you're right, even more so when you end up using the #1 anyway.SF keeps getting hosed, when they get the top pick, noone is worth it.If Leinhart stays in school, who is the top pick? Rodgers? Benson (not likely), Barron? Braylon Edwards or Mike Williams? There is little difference IMO from the #1 to #6 spot this year.If only a team could say "we'll wait til next year to use the pick"If you want, I can take over the 49ers drafting. Because there is much debate over whether Leinart is going to come out or not and his decision will highly affect the draft, we shoulf wait til after the 15th to start the draft. Save the 'Flip, Flop" commments for later.so the draft will start Monday January 17th at 1000am EST.
