2006 BUMP: One guy in my auction league (1 Viewer)

Ok first, you need to get all those hours back that you spent preparing and start over. Second, run immediately to your nearest Sporting goods store and have the trophy engraved with his team name as Champs for 2006. Third, either think about retiring or play some poker to get better at calling out other teams on players/bluffs. Seriously, his team is an outrage in an auction format by allowing him to obtain Gonzo and decent value at WR with a QB like Delhomme too who should be solid this year, I don't see how he can lose. I will check in at the end of the year but I don't expect this to change much. Best of luck...next year. :)
OK, buddy. I will dedicate my second consecutive win in this league to you.

The funny thing is he claims he accidentally bid $40 on LT. We use an online auction site, and he said he was trying to do something else, but accidentally hit the bid button. So if this guy did have a great draft, it was totally dumb luck. Which also makes me think he'll be willing to trade with me.
Wow :fishing: I would be careful in your dealings with this one...glllll peas

I know this guy. In 2003 he traded TO and Ahman Green for Steve McNair and Lav. Coles. He has never finished in the top half of the league in 5 years it has been around.

I'm a bit confused by your claim of "excellent RB depth".You've got 5 starting RBs (Brown, Parker, C.Taylor, Westbrook, Rhodes)

You have MORE depth then he....but only 1 more.

The only way this guy doesn't post a significantly better record then you is injuries to both his horse RBs but the same can be said of any team that loses it's two best players. As a matter of fact....I think a good arguement could be made that he's in better shape to cover an injury to LJ or Tomlinson then you are to cover the lost of Chad Johnson.

...I think it's also interesting that he ended up with better TEs then you (Gonzo + Cooley over Crumpler).

Hat's off to this guy. If it really was his first auction, he cobbled together an awesome team.

As I look at it a second time, it even starts to make me slightly mad - how can a guy get away with this? his backups/flex:R/W/T Corey Dillon Patriots (NWE) 6 3B-QB Billy Volek Titans (TEN) 7 1B-RB Samkon Gado Packers (GNB) 6 1B-RB Fred Taylor Jaguars (JAC) 6 1B-WR Drew Bennett Titans (TEN) 7 1B-WR Keyshawn Johnson Panthers (CAR) 9 1B-TE Chris Cooley Redskins (WAS) 8 1$9 for all that? Cooley, Bennett, and Dillon are starters in a 12-team league. Fred Taylor's close. Keyshawn's respectable. Volek's a high upside backup in a 12-teamer.Someone should see how much that group of players went for in the MB/Staff auction (halved since they had a 200 cap).
Don't forget that it is an 8 team league.

I'm talking quality depth, not roster filler (Dillon and Fragile are not legit starters in an 8 teamer). I'm not really sure either Gonzo or Cooley is better than Crump. Crump actually scored more points last season.Either way, we'll see how this plays out, but his WR are very risky for an 8 teamer. I'm not as high on Delhomme as most either, he still makes way too many mistakes for me, and you lose 2 points for INT and Fumbles.

I toyed with doing this in my 12 team keeper $100 auction league.

I was able to keep L.Johnson for $7.

I had to decide between keeping:

$10 Dunn

$11 J.Jones

$12 W.Parker

OR

Dropping them and going for the knockout.

There were a bunch of other RB keepers:

Tiki, S.Jackson, RonnieBrown, Cadillac, McGahee, Edge, Chester Taylor, Gore.

Alexander and Tomlinson ended up going for $41 and $40.

I ended up keeping the backs above and love my depth, but looking back, I think I could've still fielded a pretty good team and had the two uber-studs.

As posted in an earlier thread, I decided to roll the dice as well to spice things up. Love it or hate it, this is how it went down:

Okay...the draft was a blast as usual.

Once again- pursuing LT2 was something I decided to do in the last week or two leading up to the draft. Having LJ and Chester Taylor on board as keepers was nice, but I wanted to pair LJ with another stud RB. I discussed it with wannabe here. With only LT2, Rudi, Edge, Parker, and Westbrook available post keepers, and having LJ on the cheap, I decided to go all in on LT2.

While I knew that meant going over 50% for my starting RB's I decided to just go for it, setting a ceiling of $115. Setting up my target sheet with this in mind, getting LT2 for $101 gave me $14 to put back in my wallet for the rest of the draft. With LT2 the 2nd player called up, it meant that I would have to sit and wait for value picks.

For those contemplating a similar move, here's how it shook out for me:

QB-Favre/$7

QB-Plummer/$6

QB-Kitna/$5

RB-LJ/$11(k)

RB-LT2/$101

RB-C.Taylor/$4(k)

RB-Morency/$1

WR-TO/$25(k)

WR-Walker/$17

WR-Key.Johnson/$2

TE-M.Lewis/$1

K-Feeley/$5

K-Scobee/$1

D-Colts/$6

D-Falcons/$2

I got "stuck" with Favre, then went after the Plummer/Kitna pairing for their complementary schedule very late...Similarly with Keyshawn- I was sure somone would top my $2, not targeting him at all. ****! I thought I had Watson, still available fairly late but he wound up going for $12 I couldn't afford. I then decided to gamble at TE , waiting and grabbing Marcedes Lewis for $1. I wrapped up with Morency, hoping he steps up down in Houston.

This thread was intended for those who might be contemplating a similar RB grab.

:football:
12 team, 15 position, $200 auction cap keeper league...QB,RB,RB,WR,WR,TE,D,K...all TDs/6, .5/rec

What do you think of a play like this? Obviously the rest of his team is terrible, but he does have two huge horses.
It's all relative. His WR and Bench stink compared to the rest of the league. This is an 8 teamer, so what might look like a good roster on a 12 team league is pretty bad here.Anyway, guess who plays this guy in week three when both LT and LJ are on a bye...

ME.
Bennett, Galloway and Antonio Bryant are looking pretty solid at WR for him right now.

I have more total points than he does and we are both 1-1.

I play him next week when he won't have LJ or LT so I'll likely be 2-1 and he will be 1-2 after next week.

There is your almost quarterly update.

We are now 1/4 of the way through the season. I am set to go 3-1 if Westbrook and Driver have decent performances tomorrow (14 points combined).

He has already lost and has dropped to 1-3. He is now thinking of trading one of those two guys to cover the stink at his other skill positions.

I am going to offer him a package of Ronnie Brown and Chad Johnson for LT, or Ronnie and Plaxico for LJ, his choice.

LOL at this freaking thread. The guy with LT and LJ is in DEAD LAST right now.

DEAD LAST. He's so desperate, he traded me LT for FWP, Chad Johnson and Brees.

Then I went ahead and traded Rudi for Steve Smith. RB depth RULES and I told all of you my balanced team would be better in the long run than his top heavy squad.

My team NOW:

QB (start 2)

Hasselbeck

Leftwich

Rivers

RB (start 3)

LT

Westbrook

C. Taylor

Maroney

M. Turner

WR (Start 3)

Steve Smith

Plaxico

T. Glenn

Driver

TE

Crumpler

I'm still not sold it's a bad idea to blow your cap on two stud rb's.
Maybe it's not a bad idea, but most people on this thread basically guaranteed this guy would wipe the floor with my team. Just saying that drafting a bunch of quality RB's and looking to make trades can also work in your favor.

I thought your team looked good at the start of the year. I thought both of you had good teams. How much did it cost you to acquire FWP, CJ and Brees? How much did it cost him to get LT? Trading (almost) always improves your team.

Guy in my league is in 1st place with a 10-2 record (we play doubleheaders). Its also a start 4 WR league, so there are 9 starters each week.

He's got Vick at QB and he's made some good low cost investments at WR (Reg Brown, etc).

I think that my team is better (have more total points), but he is certainly well above the water line.

At auction Brees, CJ and FWP cost a combined $30. He spent $40 on LT. There is no post-draft salary cap in our league.

I didn't read this whole thread, but I'll tell you a guy did the same thing in my league last year, that is, ended up with LT and LJ. Yes, the rest of his team was just meh, but he not only won the championship, he won the point total bonus I award....by a landlslide.

Just fyi.

This was last year. The guy that did this got creamed by me because he ended up trading me LT to "balance" his team.

I won the championship in that league.

Was his or your idea that his team needed "balancing" ?
Well, it was his idea, but I definitely reinforced it! If you remember last year, LT was not playing at his extreme level until later in the season. I made the trade before he was averaging 150 yards and 2-3 TD's per week.

Guys, I don't know how this thread got bumped up. This was LAST year. No one allowed this to happen again in our league.

Though I did end up with LT, Portis and Thomas Jones this year.

I decided to do something similar this season in our 10-team, $200 cap auction league. Every year I draft for value, balance, and depth. I always field a very competitive team, always make the payoffs, and last season went to our SuperBowl, only to lose once again. After playing in this same league for the past 6 years I have yet to win the SB.

This year I decided to draft (buy) 3 studs and either crash and burn or win the whole thing. We are allowed 1 keeper from the year before which we have to pay $10 additional over last year's price, which counts against our cap. My draft went like this:

Starters:

QB: Peyton Manning $39

RB: Steven Jackson $84

RB: Willie Parker $40 (my keeper. Paid $30 for him last season)

WR: Lee Evans $18

WR: Joey Galloway $8

WR: Terry Glenn $1

K: Shane Graham $1

D: Steelers $1

Backups:

QB: M. Hasselbeck $1

RB: L. White $2

RB K. Jones $1

RB: W. Dunn $1

RB: N. Davenport $1

WR: Ronald Curry $1

We start 1 QB, 2 RB's, 3 WR's/TE's, 1 K, 1 D/ST. I don't know how this will turn out, but it was fun as heck to shock my leaguemates on draft night (who all expected me to draft as I always had). I'm also looking to work the wire and trades during the season to bolster my WR's. I think if I can get one more WR#1 or WR#2 in a trade (perhaps package Hasselbeck and Dunn - if/when they're performing well) I think I have a good shot at finally winning this thing! At least it will be fun riding the train....

This is what I find ridiculous about auction drafts - who is letting guys like Hasselbeck, Lendale, KJ, and Dunn go for $1 or $2?

I'll preface this with the fact I'm not trying to be a smarta**, but have you ever done an auction? Every year, there's a few players that seem like steals. That is what is fun about auctions. The ebb and flow of $$$ can be unpredictable.

In my auction league... one guy has both guys too.... and his team is Stacked, it worked out well for him.

Our cap is $500

he kept LT from last yr @ $146

he brought LJ this yr @ $112 (a very decent $$)

some other highlights of his team are

Lienart @ $15, Roy @ $42 (keeper from last yr),

some of his overpays

VJax @ $38 (overpay; may workout if he becomes a stud), McMichael @ $17 (silly; I only paid $15 for Heap) and he paid $7 for Kaeding

But having LT and LJ alone makes a Team Dangerous

Holy crow - I think you will definitely win this league!

He has 2 stars but his receivers wouldn't make the starting lineup of the rest of the teams (I guess) and his bench is complete garbage. He will lose every week LT and LJ combine for less than 3 TD's and will even have a hard time winning when they combine for 3.

Delhomme is decent but far from great in an 8 team league, Gonzalez is only about the name anymore so his only stength is the RB position. Obviously he's incredibly strong there but when LT and LJ combine for less than 3 TD on a week he will lose for sure.

I took over a team in a 14 team (up to 3) keeper league two years ago. I kept LT, Westbrook, and Harrison. I then drafted LJ my first year. I went on to win the championship the last two years. My keepers last year and this year are LT, LJ, and Harrison. Here's my team this year:

Player YTD Pts Bye

Brady, Tom NEP QB - 10

Schaub, Matt HOU QB - 10

Bennett, Michael KCC RB - 8

Johnson, Larry KCC RB - 8

Keith, Kenton IND RB - 6

Thomas, Anthony BUF RB - 6

Tomlinson, Ladainian SDC RB - 7

Curry, Ronald OAK WR - 5

Hackett, D.J. SEA WR - 8

Harrison, Marvin IND WR - 6

Henry, Chris CIN WR - 5

Jones, Jacoby HOU WR ® - 10

Jones, James GBP WR ® - 7

Rice, Sidney MIN WR ® - 5

Stover, Matt BAL PK - 8

Bears, Chicago CHI Def - 9

16 Total Players

TEs are treated like WR. The rest of my WR corps is very suspect as it has been the last two years as I went for Brady and the Bears defense pretty early. I did invest in alot of upside though. Hoping I can stretch my streak to a 3-peat.

My draft went like this:Starters:QB: Peyton Manning $39RB: Steven Jackson $84RB: Willie Parker $40 (my keeper. Paid $30 for him last season)WR: Lee Evans $18WR: Joey Galloway $8WR: Terry Glenn $1K: Shane Graham $1D: Steelers $1Backups:QB: M. Hasselbeck $1RB: L. White $2RB K. Jones $1RB: W. Dunn $1RB: N. Davenport $1WR: Ronald Curry $1We start 1 QB, 2 RB's, 3 WR's/TE's, 1 K, 1 D/ST.
Holy crow - I think you will definitely win this league!
We'll see...hope you're right. As I metnioned, this is a 10-team league, so there are some other strong rosters. However, no one has the firepower of my 3-headed monster in Peyton/SJax/FWP.
