2007 Devil Rays Thread (1 Viewer)

Can't see Kazmir leaving. And I am sure the Rays would want boatloads for one of the better lefties in the game who is 3 years away from free agency.

I think the Rays need to follow the Diamondback's lead and let their youngsters develop. Sprinkle in a couple cheap veterans who are good clubhouse guys, and they are on their way. The Rays are stacked with solid young players.

From ESPN Page 2:

1. Team selects Bobby Abreu from Astros in expansion draft -- and immediately trades him to the Phillies for Kevin Stocker.2. Wilson Alvarez is the team's first big free agent, $35 million for five years; he wins just 17 games in five years.3. Opening Day, 1998: Devil Rays sell out inaugural game -- and don't sell out again for more than six years.4. Wade Boggs celebrates 3,000th hit by French kissing home plate at Tropicana Field.5. Team signs 34-year-old Greg Vaughn to four-year, $34 million contract. He's released after hitting .163 in year 3 of the deal.6. Aug. 29, 2000: Boston's Pedro Martinez hits Gerald Williams with the first pitch of the game, leading to a huge brawl. Eight Devil Rays are ejected. Fired up, the team responds by getting one hit and striking out 13 times.7. Then-owner Vince Naimoli plays the "Do you know who I am" card when his wife is stopped by St. Petersburg police.8. 2004: Devil Rays set team record with 70 wins -- and finish out of last place for only time in franchise history!9. Naimoli fires off a letter to county officials complaining that a "pesky raccoon was intimidating" his wife and daughter, even though he pays high property taxes.10. Naimoli loudly kicks Mets scout Howie Freiling out of the stadium for using the restroom in Naimoli's private suite located next to the press box

Crawford walk off...where the f is cappy?
 hard to get too excited about one win though.
I would think it would be the opposite. Since wins are so rare, you should be more excited with each one. :ptts:
Too bad San Diegowned has never had any title to be excited about. :own3d: :ptts:
Both the Chargers and Padres are currently holding division titles and are both Super Bowl and WS contenders. But you have some fantastic position prospects!
Your Pads should look into that strategy.

Percival is fat and sucks. Maybe they should let Price close?

Rays are built to be one of the best teams in baseball over the next few years. Their payroll is ridiculously low right now.

No, I was talking about the Pads winning the WS. Offering even-money is an absurd low-ball. Nonetheless, I can appreciate the effort. And the initial bet was taking the 16 months into consideration to begin with, so I don't see why that is now a drawback, but whatever. I just want to see some action.
I don't understand. The Rays o/u for next year right now would probably be set at 72 tops. How is that not a low-ball from him? :link:
WOW. This backpedal is electric slide stuff. You're the moron claiming the Rays are going to be "winning games in '08". I suggest a wager that the Rays wouldn't be winning half their games in '08.What does "winning games" mean to you? 72 wins?
Gunz> Please report to the Oakland A's thread and commence your magic.

So what are BJ's options going forward?

Can he get a short-term payraise, or will it be a situation where he either signs a huge longterm deal or leaves in a few years?
