I cursed his parents out when they conceived him.
I'll be honest...I don't mind the guy. I really like his philosophy of building up the offensive line and base everything around the running game. The QB position is just killing this team. Now, that could be his fault or not, but I agree with his philosophy - but that does not necessarily make him a good head coach. I am reserving judgement until next season (if he makes it that long).
If Derrick Anderson is for real, he can be added to a growing list of QBs that were late round picks or undrafted that have been successful in the NFL. Already on the list are Tom Brady, Matt Hasslebeck, Mark Bulger, Tony Romo, Jon Kitna, Jeff Garcia and Jake Delhomme. I keep thinking that there has to a be QB walking the street that is better than the QBs on the Vikings roster. I thought maybe that Tyler Thigpen could have been the guy but they gave up on him. Instead of looking at young arms, they keep signing Koy Detmer types.

I try to be patient but I have basically given up on Travaris Jackson. He has all the atheletic ability in the world but I almost never see him get past his first read before he delivers the ball. Is this what he does naturally or is this what Chilly has taught him to do? Is the lines so bad that he never has time to go through his progressions?
Thigpen could have been one of those guys. But, we'll never know cause we wasted a draft pick on him so we could release him to KC.
Nothing annoys me more than wasting 7th round picks. Fire everyone!!!!!
Thigpen.Bollinger.

Holcombe.

T. Jack.

A 7th, two 6ths, and a second. And 40,000 bucks for Koy Detmer.

Oh, and 6th rounders usually end up making the New England Patriots. Maybe you've heard of them?
Can you name one besides Tom Brady without looking it up? :missing:
No, I'm basing that on the information that came out about Miami a while ago and how they have no draft picks from like 4 years on their team and NE has tons. But, I know they have a bunch. We hired Miami's old GM by the way. Did you know that?

The team hired Fran Foley, Brad Childress, and Rick Spielman in quick succession. Is there any wonder why we're seeing what we're seeing?

Well.. the owners name is Ziggy:thumbdown:

Does anyone know if this week is going to be a blackout? :lmao:
It sounds likely. We won't know for sure until Thursday, I think. Not sure I'd want to see Vikes vs. Raiders anyway.
I listened to KFAN on my way home. Rosen said this game being televised is more important :lmao: wise to them than the one against the Chargers. This is due to the fact that they have a post game show scheduled that means extra Money for the station, compared to the Charger game where the Colt vs. pat game followed.FWIW I expect between the Vikes and WCCO this will get done.

So, what do you think it is going to take for Ziggy to realize Childress needs to go and go out and hire Cower?

Lets see.

He Trades UP to get TJ and designates him the Franchise QB and the starter for this year.. So far F

He brings in Bollinger as a Back-up.. F

Decides after 100 yards rushing in the first half of the first Packer game that that is enough and rests him the 2nd half.. F

Docks Williamson a Pay check for attending his Grand Mothers Funeral, while at the same time pays a never has been like Koy Detmer $40,000+ for 4 days of "work".. F

Takes the Vikes to Green Bay completely unprepared and has a Game plan that even a High School team wouldn't use.. F

What will it take Ziggy?? What will it take??

A lost to the Raiders on Sunday? Will that do it??

0-4 against the Packers should be reason enough.

You should not go 0-4 against probably your biggest rival and expect to keep your job.

Childress Out?

A source close to Vikings' owner Zygi Wilf has indicated that Wilf is contemplating buying out the remainder of current head coach Brad Childress' contract. The buyout would elevate current defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier to head coach for the remainder of this season. Wilf is said to be displeased not only with Childress' on-field results but also with the second-year coach's lack of appeal among the fan base. The move could come as early as this week.

If true, the move to Frazier likely would provide the rookie defensive coordinator an opportunity to audition for the full-time position of head coach. Though the performance of the Vikings' defense has been mixed in 2007, Frazier has proven much more comfortable speaking to the media than has Childress, providing straight answers to clear questions and offering insight where Childress has refused to do so.

The move to Frazier, a move that would have been more popular prior to last week's defensive collapse at Green Bay, would nevertheless fare the team no worse than where it currently stands under a coaching regime that appears lost in time.

More updates to follow.

This is definitely a rumor that I hope pans out. I was a Chili supporter at first because I thought he was what the team needed after knuckle head Tice was the coach. He hasn't shown anything that impresses me at this point. I've been giving him a pass because of the QB situation but I'm starting to think it is time to go. If it wasn't for AD, this team would have only one win this year.

Well, that adds to the :kicksrock: of this Sunday's game.Vikings win and Childress is probably safe for one more week..

Vikings lose, to Culpepper of all players and I'm not sure even Frazier will be safe around here.

he has to have been contemplating it for well over a month or maybe longer, nothing is going to happen until after the season, then he'll be gone imo....

I am still in favor of keeping Childress...I'm not happy with the QB situation, but the facts are this: They are 3-2 when Tarvaris starts games and 0-4 when he doesn't. No, he hasn't been Tom Brady but those are results that can't be disputed. However, if Wilf does want to get rid of Childress, then I am in favor of doing it right now and seeing if Frazier can provide a spark and have a run similar to what the Packers did last year at the end and hopefully attract some free agents as a team on the rise instead of a team in disarray. I think the players would respond to the change and play harder down the stretch, but like I said, I still think he has the team on a course to win next season and I am for patience - if the owner agrees I don't know.

Much as I hate Childress, it's hard to concieve canning him after this short a period. He was obviously hired to take them to the next level, but they seem to be trading water as a team, if not slowly sinking. Kinda one step forward, two steps back.

They really need to do something to take that next step. Banking on Jackson coming into the year was a msitake. He's competent, but too green (For lack of a better description) to play the wiley veteran that keeps the passing "attack" hanging around while the Defense and Running Game churn it out.

Not sure that they knew they had lightning in a bottle when the got Peterson, and were banking on being the dink and dunk offense that just kinda hung around enough to win enough games against the Packers, Lions and maybe garner a split with the Bears.

I don't know that hiring the DC as the head coach will cure their ills. Just because he's a better press guy, and relates to the players better, doesn't mean he''l cure the QB situation. Besides, as bad as the offensive passing game is the defensive (his AO) is just as bad.

I also agree to keep Childress, the Vikes are close to turning it around, maybe sign a vet QB like McNabb if he gets cut, or other vet qb, sign a free agent WR like B. Johnson from the Cards, AP gets healthly, I see good things in 08.

You are being awfully generous in somehow giving credit to Jackson for games that Peterson went out and won for them. At this point, I thought I would have seen something more from Jackson. If Bollinger started those games the Vike's record would have been the same (maybe better) assuming Peterson was playing with the same dominance.

My biggest gripe on Childress is:

Lack of ability to adjust. They seem to have a pretty good opening drive in most games, but as soon as the defense makes adjustments, Childress looks lost. The exceptions are the games when AD had huge games, but how much of that is gameplanning and playcalling and how much is flat out execution by players.

Less than 4 years and counting  2011 lease is up and the Vikes are free to do what they want

Someone brought it up in the game thread but Chester Taylor for Derrick Anderson would be nice. Maybe the Vikes throw in a draft pick to make it more even.

*****OFFICIAL Sydney Rice for QB post******

I hate to do this to Chester, cause he played a great game. But how many yards would AD have got today :hophead:

dont think cleveland would do that, they will tender anderson to a 1st and 3rd, keep him and quinn next year and let him walk after next year.brees/rivers part 2

I'd be more on their bandwagon if they could actually cover someone. At the beginning of the year, they combined a good pass rush with actually some playmaking ability in the secondary. That is gone now. They are just horrible. Today they looked like they had the play covered, then get totally turned the wrong way for big play after big play. Winfield was back - expected better. They will never be a contender until they can defend the pass. Period.

Winfield can only do so much.. and he maybe back but he didn't look 100% to me.Griffin is  . 2nd year and still doesn't get it. He maybe OK to come in on the Dime package, but he sucks one on one. :angry:Sharper is still decent, but doesn't have cover speed so is best when he can play "center field".Dwight Smith.. not horrible, but not great either.Very weak DB's = Nice stat padding by opposing QB's.This is why I think they need to blitz more. It has been proven over and over that we can not cover. Yet they continue to rush 4 and drop back and get burned. Bring 6 or 7, don't give the opposing QB all day to sit back there and wait for a Receiver to find the soft spot.

McCauley is going to end up being pretty good, I think. Maybe he and Griffin will switch next year with Marcus starting.

I still think the safeties are a very weak link in the defensive chain.

Tarvaris didn't look completely lost today. Nice gameplan for him to execute.

Let's not get too excited here. They beat Oakland.

T. Jackson 10/12 129 Yards 1TD

Talk about efficient in NY no less, with a 60+ yard TD.

This season is a absolute mess in the NFC.. After Cowboys, Packers and maybe Bucs you have a bunch of :goodposting: teams..

Saying that, if the Vikes can get a revenge win this week, at home vs. the Lions they are team number 6 I believe..

:loco: :goodposting: :loco:  :loco:

Fun game to watch yesterday!

big home games against detroit and washington. Vikes schedule looks alot better than all the other bottom feeders besides arizona. I think they have a real good shot at 9-7, next week will be telling.

Hard to be anything but positive after the last two weeks. But I'll try...

Negatives

- That TD to Rice was underthrown and the deep ball is still a problem.

- Eli looked about as bad as I've ever seen a QB be. The Giants appear destined for their traditional second half of the season meltdown and are going to be the bad team I thought they'd be at the beginning of the year. Beating the Giants is no more impressive to me than beating the Raiders last week.

- Dwight Smith only looks good when he gets lucky. Otherwise he's mediocre at best. Same goes for Sharper.

- Brad Childress will not be fired.

Positives

Tarvaris has played like he's supposed to the last couple weeks and the light seems to be turning on. That's encouraging.

Sidney Rice is going to be great.

Apparently AP isn't seriously injured.

Even if they make the playoffs, I expect they'd get smoked in the first round. But I've said all along that I like their chances for NEXT year, and the last two weeks have shown that this team could be a contender next year if the young talent continues to develop.

At this point though, the crow that I am eating doesn't taste too bad.

Salt helps. :whoosh: I'm still holding out hope on 6 or 7 wins..

Brad won't ever be fired now. Now we're stuck.

I hold out a slim..SLIM hope the light has turned on in that stubborn head of his..

Rush the passer. They admitted in the Packer game they only called 1 blitz.. Yea, that was a smart idea there.. Let Favre stand back and survey the field for 10 seconds... he'll never beat that.. :lmao:

Getting Peterson back this week will be a big plus. Chester will probably get 70% of the carries, a few big runs by Peterson and we will get the kitties and Kitna to start turning the ball over.

:wall:

My only fear is that this will be like going to a strip club(not that I have ever been ;) )..

Enjoyable show while it lasts, but leaves you wanting a hell of a lot more at the end.

That's a little nitpicky. If I'm going to make a mistake deep to Rice, better to be short and have a chance to come back and get it or draw a PI. Two things I saw on that play: TJ actually looked off a saftety and the CB made a terrible play.

I had hoped we would see this a little sooner, but progress is good to see regardless. I thought he looked like he saw a sliver of light last week and again this week. Starting to show signs of life after 7 starts is about right, isn't it?

I expected to see a lot of pissed off people in this thread when I read this today.

I've disagreed with you about the amount of blitzing, but it's hard to argue with the results when they do. Hopefully they keep being more aggressive and less passive.

That's why it's not nitpicky. If it were a veteran instead of the rookie Ross, that could have easily been an INT and it could have changed the whole complexion of the game. But I do like to see them taking some shots downfield. I was impressed with Rice's speed to get so far downfield in that slim period of time.

I'm more concerned with TJ's lack of ability to make throws other than the quick slant and 12 yard comeback on the sidelines. He's not yet able to work the middle of the field over ten yards. Seem routes and deep in routes would be nice to see.I'll still take my chances with Rice and his size/ball skills versus almost any CB one on one with the ball in the air.

Need WR's that are willing to run in the middle of the field and can catch. Short of the TE's and maybe Wade no one has shown a willingness to go over the middle.

From the Pioneer Press...

Vikings coach Brad Childress' job secure through 2008Moments after Brad Childress presided over a key victory, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf guaranteed his handpicked coach's job security through the 2008 season. After a disappointing 4-6 start, Childress was speculated to be on the hot seat, according to national Web sites, and he was bashed in Vikings forums by fans, including one who started a Fire Brad Childress Web site. But Wilf, who hasn't publicly commented on the Vikings in more than a month, dismissed any possibility of his coach being ousted after this season. Asked if Childress would return in 2008, regardless of how this season concludes, Wilf said, "Absolutely." "There was never a question," Wilf said. "You need time for a team to coalesce and to get together. This is the ultimate team sport, and everyone has to play their part, and it will take some time. And we're doing it, and everyone is stepping up." -- Pioneer Press
Yay. :thanks:
