Yay.Vikings coach Brad Childress' job secure through 2008Moments after Brad Childress presided over a key victory, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf guaranteed his handpicked coach's job security through the 2008 season. After a disappointing 4-6 start, Childress was speculated to be on the hot seat, according to national Web sites, and he was bashed in Vikings forums by fans, including one who started a Fire Brad Childress Web site. But Wilf, who hasn't publicly commented on the Vikings in more than a month, dismissed any possibility of his coach being ousted after this season. Asked if Childress would return in 2008, regardless of how this season concludes, Wilf said, "Absolutely." "There was never a question," Wilf said. no on Faneca, we just extended Anthony Herrera our current RG. He's a huge reason for our oline success, he was inserted into the starting lineup either the 3rd or 4th week of the year and has been fantastic. Now at RT, Ryan Cook has been inconsistent. Might be looking at a vet RT this offseason as Marcus Johnson hasnt been very steady in his career either.Just thinking out loud here:
Is there ANY WAY the Vikings would be able to fit Alan Faneca under their cap in '08?
Imagine an O-line consisting of:
MOUNT/Hutch/Birk/Faneca/anyone...
And if that anyone at RT is someone they can get fairly high in the draft, my oh my.![]()

Two things:
- Would he accept a move over to RG?
- Would Pittsburgh be entitled to any compensation if they lost him? This is the final year on his contract.
I'm not even that worried about the QB situation anymore, the way T-Jax looks lately.
With this defense & when they get Chester back the running game I'm still sticking with my 6-7 wins.. although it is looking more and more like 6.
Atlanta - win
Good chance to win next week at KC...WIN
Packers at home.. Won't be easy, but that Rush defense + Blitzing in the Dome should keep it close enough to possibly win. WIN
Then a bad streak until week 8..
A slight chance against the Eagles in the Dome but more than likely not.
Oakland in the Dome.. WIN
@ Giants.. Depends on if they find a defense or not by then
They will beat the Lions at home... WIN
& Bears at the Dome.. Defensive struggle, who knows who is QB for the Vikes... Rexy will do just enough to lose.
So I have them at 5 wins with a possibility of grabbing the Bear, Eagle or Giant game to get to 6 wins.
Guess I'll wear the
for not giving them 6 wins AT THIS POINT of the season, instead at the end of the season.
no clue why, if other guys are stepping up more or what but it sure seems that way.vikes should be looking at 500 or better this year, gotta give chilly some credit I thought this team was about to quit on him after the greenbay game and they stepped up bigtime. Playcalling has gotten so much better than last year its not even funny and jackson is 6-2 as a starter, gotta like what were seeing out of all these young guys. Last years draft is looking like a really good one. The final month here should be fun!I think we saw TJ take the biggest step forward that we have seen to date. The prior two weeks we saw baby steps. He'll still have times where he takes a step back, but hopefully people will relax a bit now about him. It was nice to see Dre Allison up and playing. He seems to me to provide much more than Williamson is. He is more than a sprinter. I'm not nervous when he has the ball in his hands.
McKinnie is playing much better the past few weeks. It appears he will just be a streaky player forever.
I still can't believe how good AD is.
The DB play has been better without Winfield. It doesn't make sense. What does that say about Antoine?
At this point, short of getting a stud at WR through FA, I wouldn't be surprised if Rice, Allison and Wade were our 1-3 WRs next year.Imagine.. TJ at QB who hopefully keeps growing, ADP at RB, Allison and Rice at Wide outs. There is hope there which I know very few saw just 4 weeks ago.I'm still not sure what to think here. They beat two bad teams in Oakland and Detroit (who may have the worst secondary in the history of football) and a decent one where the QB played one of the worst games a QB has ever played. Now the question is - was that due in any way to Vikings game plan and, therefore, coaching? I don't know. But regardless, three wins is three wins. And the remainder of their schedule is relatively easy. I can't believe they have a chance at 9-7 or, heaven forbid, 10-6.Tarvaris Jackson is the biggest difference. Sitting out those two games must have really helped. I love watching him throw the ball (the velocity I mean). Sid Rice is going to be great.
Oh and... No way should Allison see the inactive list the rest of the season, way to explosive to be sitting and watching.I'm still hoping they can draft a guy like DeSean Jackson or Early Doucet.Allison is a nice return man, but I've not seen him at WR.At this point, short of getting a stud at WR through FA, I wouldn't be surprised if Rice, Allison and Wade were our 1-3 WRs next year.Imagine.. Had a very nice catch and run yesterday. 2 Receptions for 52 yards is pretty good for a rookie who has been inactive most of the year.I'm still hoping they can draft a guy like DeSean Jackson or Early Doucet.Allison is a nice return man, but I've not seen him at WR.At this point, short of getting a stud at WR through FA, I wouldn't be surprised if Rice, Allison and Wade were our 1-3 WRs next year.Imagine.. Fixed for you since the catch was in the 2nd quarter:1-10-MIN 43 (14:31) 7-T.Jackson pass short right to 84-A.Allison to DET 22 for 35 yards (26-K.Kennedy).I missed that. Winslow was DEFINITELY pushed out. How do these refs miss these calls?By the way.. I hate to bring up![]()
memories but.Anyone notice a "push out" with the Cardinals may once again cost the Vikes a Playoff spot??A few years ago it was a push out called against the Vikes that cost them a chance at the playoffs. This time it was a Non-Push out call for the Cardinals that keeps them ahead of the Vikes for the last Playoff spot.F'n Refs.. always screwing the Vikes.

"Everyone outran you!" Williams told Udeze. "E.J. [Henderson] was trying to block for you, and he outran you. Some lady in the second row outran you. I think a piano would have outran you."
Udeze noted he had rushed the passer on five consecutive plays.
"I tried to get out of first gear, but I couldn't," he said.
Nothing but first gear.
OMG! As an aside, how do you guys feel about it being announced that Childress is definitely back next year? Y'all warming up to him?Doomed to it after the win in N.Y.J/K.. I'm willing to eat crow if he continues to show he has learned how to coach. Another showing like the one at Green Bay though and the world won't be big enough for him to hide. :gangsign:OMG! I know it. If TJ continues to develop, a battery of he, AP/Rice/Wade/Jackson could make for a VERY exciting offense.OMG! I believe the term you are looking for is "kick-###."I know it. If TJ continues to develop, a battery of he, AP/Rice/Wade/Jackson could make for a VERY exciting offense.
I specifically avoided calling it that!I believe the term you are looking for is "kick-###."I know it. If TJ continues to develop, a battery of he, AP/Rice/Wade/Jackson could make for a VERY exciting offense.

The rest of their schedule is winnable, but there are no guarantees with the Vikes. Arizona's schedule isn't very bad either but they do have to play Seattle and NO on the road. Plus, Boldin might be out next week and Fitz is iffy. Detroit has a difficult schedule (Cowboys, Packers, Chargers) and their team seems to be reverting back to the Lions we're accustomed to. There's even a possibility that the Vikes could edge out the NYG for a playoff spot if the Vikes run the table and the Giants drop a few games. I'm not going to be too optimistic but I'm shocked because I thought this team was dead earlier this season and now they have a chance to make it to the playoffs.I'm still not sure what to think here. My biggest memory from that game was Jack Tatum hammering Sammy White so hard, White's helmet flew off. This sucks.

Edwards suspended
December 5th, 2007 – 12:20 PM by Judd Zulgad
Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards will be suspended today by the NFL for violating the league’s policy on anabolic steroids and related substances, according to coach Brad Childress.
How stupid.Their DE situation is still not great. My first call would be to Travis Henry's lawyer. This sucks.

I've always liked Mitchell as well. It's too bad that Edwards has to miss time, but I see Robison taking over and not looking back. He has been quiet and I read this morning that he admitted to hitting the "rookie wall" but that he is feeling much better. I see some big games for him coming up.Hopefully Erasmus is healthy to get more snaps. Watch out for Jayme Mitchell, he's a playmaker.Hopefully Ray Edwards will play again this year.
Speaking of.. any update on how ADP felt after the game this past week?
(sorry if it's in another thread... too lazy to dig for the myriad of ADP threads)
Looks like they are being cautious with practice, but with nothing being reported and he at least participating I'd say everything is good.Safeties Mike Doss (hamstring) and Tank Williams (knee); defensive end Erasmus James (knee); linebacker E.J. Henderson (illness); and wide receiver Robert Ferguson (personal matter) were among those who did not practice Wednesday.
Defensive tackle Spencer Johnson (groin); running back Adrian Peterson (knee); linebacker Dontarrious Thomas (groin); and wide receiver Troy Williamson (concussion) were limited.
I just got to admit, I was wrong about this season. I said 3 wins. I will take my crow now. Thay have been fun to watch.
I too will take my crow even at just 6 wins. I really did not see this turnaround coming whatsoever. I've gone from a Childress hater to wanting to see more before taking a hardline stance. The OL has really come around. I'd still like to see another top notch WR and real QB competition [i.e. no token former Philly/Badger QBs] to push TJ next season - and obviously serve as legit insurance. However, the team does seem to be coming together and the risk taken with TJ may pan out.How many NFC teams are "real" besides the Cowboys and that ****** team from cheese land?I want to see them play a real NFL team. Unfortunately, they don't play one this week either.Beating the Raiders, Giants (when Eli literally GAVE them the game), and a truly horrendous Lions team does not impress me much.I will grant that they did crush the last two. But the jury's still out for me.
