Not sure why he wasted the money on Braylon. He shoulda just "dropped" him from that lineup.

I figured Minn and SD in the Superbowl too, you'll crush my team if you make it to the SB.Like most others I picked the two teams I think will make it to the Super Bowl and loaded up on those players, particularly the studs. I went with a SD/MIN matchup. I ended up with nine players from these two teams at a cost of $179. I then needed to fill in the rest of my team to survive weeks 1 through 3. And that meant I needed to spend the rest of my salary on players that would play week 1, so I took a chance and skipped any players from NO or IND. I picked one player each from the BAL/NE game, ensuring I have a player from that matchup playing in week 2. Likewise for the other week 1 games. I'll need an upset of NO and/or IND in week 2 to advance my players from the wildcard week and at least 2 each from MIN and SD to score BIG in week 3 to survive. I figured to win this you have to score big in the SB and just hope to survive weeks 1-3.QB - Philip Rivers - SD - $28QB - Brett Favre - MIN - $25RB - Adrian Peterson - MIN - $25RB - LaDamianian Tomlinson - SD - $17RB - Ray Rice - BAL - $16RB - Brian Westbrook - PHI - $10RB - Chester Taylor - MIN - $8RB - Felix Jones - DAL - $8RB - Larry Johnson - CIN - $5RB - John Kuhn - GB - $2WR - Vincent Jackson - SD - $21WR - Sidney Rice - MIN - $19WR - Greg Jennings - GB - $16WR - Steve Breaston - ARI - $11WR - Julian Edelman - NE - $11WR - Brad Smith - NYJ - $2WR - Greg Lewis - MIN - $2TE - Antonio Gates - SD - $24Ideally I want BAL, PHI, GB, and CIN to win week 1 giving me the SD & MIN players and Rice, Westbrook, Jennings, Johnson and Kuhn in week 2. That'll give me 9 scoring players in week 2.I'll need NO or IND to lose in week 2 and to advance my SD & MIN players and preferrably GB and BAL wins giving me SD, MIN and Jennings and Rice in week 3. With only six players scoring in week 3 I'll need some big scores from my two SD and two MIN players. If I'm fortunate to survive weeks 1-3 I like my studs from SD and MIN.Edited to add that the simulator gives me a 6% chance of surviving week 1.

Sorry for the newbie question, but what is "going chalk?"While I said above I am just in it to see how many weeks I can last, if I were to go all out to win it I would go with anything BUT chalk. Going chalk only guarantees you don't win. The guy who plans everything right statistically cannot win. I promise you that.
Those of you hoping to be in the money and counting on Manning and Wayne and Clark to get you there need to realize there are so many others doing exactly that same thing and owning those exact players that even if the Colts make it to the SB your chances are very slim unless you have juuuuuuust the right minor unique player as well.
There's no carry over of points from the previous week, so someone in SB week has to set you apart, and it WON'T be a big name player. You have to have picked the right opponent, most likely some unlikely underdog (like the Cardinals were last year), and some guy like, say, Urban has to be your lucky wild card. That's just how it is with 8901 permutations. And it's why, with a .0001123 chance of winning this thing to start out, I didn't overthink it. No point in me trying to sweat who the nobody player will be who will win this for someone.
That comes from the NCAA tourney I think. It means picking all the favorites. In this case, what I mean is picking all the big name scorers on the teams (esp. Indy since the NFC is less clear) favored to be in the SB.Sorry for the newbie question, but what is "going chalk?"While I said above I am just in it to see how many weeks I can last, if I were to go all out to win it I would go with anything BUT chalk. You realize that even if it's Dallas/Baltimore Super Bowl, you'll never get there? You're going to have 4 players counting for you in weeks 1, 2, and 3 (aside from those token GB guys). Good luck with that.All-in on the Cowboys and Ravens

I went with 4 PKs and thought there was good $ per point as Bass and Brew put it earlier, but I don't see the value of defenses per dollar since there are no points awarded for yardage or points against. Just sacks, INTs, safeties, and TDs. Not a high scoring weekly ceiling without the YA and PA factors, and barely better than a 1/1 ratio of $ to points. Maybe I'm missing something? Someone tell me.Like the approach bostonfred and Doug Drinen took.

 You read them really fast?
You read them really fast?I don't think you're missing anything, although defenses still seem to score a decent number of points in this format, especially in cold weather games. About the only thing you can guarantee from your defense is that they will play. I'd feel a lot better about my entry if there were 5-6000 participants than the 8000+ we actually had.I went with 4 PKs and thought there was good $ per point as Bass and Brew put it earlier, but I don't see the value of defenses per dollar since there are no points awarded for yardage or points against. I took a different approach. I don't think you need players that set you apart in the SB. That's where the tie-breakers come in and I took a few $2 players to increase my number of players for the first tie breaker. I also wanted to take players in the first round that if they don't advance they will at least score points to help in the second tie breaker. Doubtful if it ever gets to the third tie breaker but I have a few $2 players to help there as well. While I said above I am just in it to see how many weeks I can last, if I were to go all out to win it I would go with anything BUT chalk. Going chalk only guarantees you don't win. The guy who plans everything right statistically cannot win. I figured he'd be on half the teams easily. How many have Shonn? The 957 teams with Brad Smith are happy so far.
What I liked about their approach was the "thinking out of the box" angle - assume that not many went that direction. Agree that using that many defenses may not yield the optimal result, but I think these types of angles are the type that can get someone into the finals. This thing is 50% skill and 90% luck anyway, so I agree that an "Urban" type of player will ultimately decide it.I went with 4 PKs and thought there was good $ per point as Bass and Brew put it earlier, but I don't see the value of defenses per dollar since there are no points awarded for yardage or points against. I was very tempted to hope to squeak through week 1, but with so many contest teams and so many different SB teams people would be choosing, I knew week one would be a bear. And the fiendish part of this contest was having to survive week 1 with throw-away one game players. The sim indicates that on paper I planned it perfectly, my teams checks in around 3900 out of 4000 that will make it.Even if the brackets go exactly like I laid out, I'm still sure there will be teams with more Minn and SD players than I have. With how tough it was to plan out a contest team path to get to the SB with Minn / SD, it will be interesting to see how others did it.I clearly miscalculated how many points it would take to get to round 2, as the sim shows only a 23% chance

I figured that this could be a much bigger problem than many gave credit for. Which is why I scrubbed the load-up-on-bye-week-teams strategy.I think next week people will also suffer from the only two players from a team rule, as some folks might not have many players scoring if they went hog wild on only two teams.I clearly miscalculated how many points it would take to get to round 2, as the sim shows only a 23% chance
