2010 Rookie Draft Picks, Looking Ahead! (1 Viewer)

Any more clarity on where the QBs are going to go here?

I have a very strong, young team with 1.04 and 1.13. My primary "hole" in a 16 team, 6 pts per pass TD dynasty is QB - at this point I only have Matt Ryan on roster. Will there be viable starting QBs left at 1.13, or should I be looking to package those two picks? One guy has 1.05/1.06, so I could potentially trade those two and another 2nd or 3rd rounder.

I'm hoping that (in a non-PPR) Bryant falls to 1.04. (Crabtree fell to 1.05 last year).

My team:

QB: Ryan

RB: CJ3, Beanie, D.Brown, B.Scott, maybe T.Jones if I resign him as RFA

WR/TE: Rice, Holmes, Driver, Maclin, Floyd, Avery, Keller, Cook

DL: Allen, Tuck, Avril

LB: Lofton, Harrison, Timmons, D.Levy

DB: Y.Bell, Finnegan

Picks: 1.04, 1.13, 2.04, 3.03, 4.01, 5.16

It's a pretty thin QB group with Clausen and Bradford looking like the only first rounders. I wouldn't use the 1.04 on Bradford (too early). Clausen might slip to 1.13, but he sort of has that bust feel (at least that's my completely unscientific hunch).

Try to trade the 1.13 for a veteran if you need depth. There are usually a couple teams who have more than one QB1 on their roster because they hit a home run with someone like Rodgers or Schaub. Give them a call.

Nyan Boateng, CalVerran Tucker, Cal
I'm a little surprised that these guys got invites, but they definitely had their numbers depressed a bit by spotty QB play.Boateng might have a chance to put up some combine numbers. He's a sizable receiver with decent speed and hands, and uses his body well.Tucker is pretty fast, but I think he's likely to measure up as undersized, and I doubt he'll test off the charts for speed.Neither of them has handled kick return duties, and they're probably not suited to it.My guess would be that Boateng gets picked up in the late rounds as a project, and Tucker goes undrafted.

Not throwing at combine...Dan Lefevour??? Really.

In an exclusive interview with the NFL Draft Bible, Central Michigan quarterback Dan LeFevour stated that he has elected not to participate in the passing drills next week during the NFL Scouting Combine.

“I’ll be doing (pretty much) everything except throwing at the combine,” LeFevour said of his plans.

The passing drills have drawn criticism in years past as some quarterbacks have more of a comfort zone throwing to their own wide outs at their school Pro Day.

“I will focus solely on throwing at Pro Day,” LeFevour added. “Just getting focused with that—only having one thing to do on Pro Day and being able to work with my receivers up at school that are coming out. Putting everything I have into that aspect of it.”

However, the former Chippewa will be participating in certain drills primarily those that show off his footwork. LeFevour says the fact that the consensus top two quarterbacks—Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford and Notre Dame’s Jimmy Clausen—aren’t throwing had no impact on his decision.

“I felt this is what’s best for me.”

Overall, the record-setting signal caller seamed relaxed and confident about next week’s events in Indianapolis.

“As a quarterback, you look forward to the whole experience not just one aspect of it,” LeFevour said of the combine. “You have to be well-rounded enough to handle it all. I’m looking to soak in everything that’s going to come at me.”

Silly rabbit!

If anything I would think LeFevour would want to take advantage of Clausen and Bradford's inability to participate in any of the physical drills. Seems questionable to me, but there must be some reasoning behind it.

The only thing that would make sense if he sense that he was a higher overall NFL grade than the draft sites and most of us think he does. Outside that one of his big questions is can he make all the throws because of the dink and dunk spread offense he came from at Central Michigan. Seems like a guy who shuld wanting to step up and stake claim to the 3rd QB spot, which the way teams reach at QB could put in the as high as the late first.

Is there any particular reason why Freddie Barnes wasn't invited to the Combine? I'm a big fan of his talents and prospects in the NFL. Does anyone know anything about it?

Damn, this thread just became a lot less interesting for me after I sold all my early picks in my primary league :)

(1.04, 1.13, 2.04 and a top 4 pick next year, plus Avery, for Aaron Rodgers... so I think it was worth it... but still, all my fun is gone :) )

So you don't like your chances for next year?

I never said it was my pick :) My team is pretty sick and pretty young... but Ryan at QB has been holding me back a little. I finished this year as the #2 overall pts team and best record, but was knocked out in the semis with Ryan out, starting Fitzpatrick.

QB: Rodgers, Ryan

RB: CJ3, Beanie, D.Brown, T.Jones, B.Scott

WR/TE: Sid Rice, Holmes, Maclin, Driver, Keller, Floyd, Cook (and maybe Finley and Chambers who I'm bidding on now)

DL: Allen, Tuck, Avril

LB: Harrison, Lofton, Timmons, Levy

DB: Finnegan, Y.Bell

In all honesty though, it shows the importance of threads like this.... being in the loop on guys over the past few years has helped me draft very well, which means I can sell those guys I drafted for multiple picks and/or able to let go of veterans to acquire more and more picks... rinse and repeat :)

Hey EBF,

Demaryius Thomas, the guy looks like he could beast in the NFL.. he's ridiculously aggressive with jump balls, his route running is actually quite good especially coming from GT's triple option, and his hands are pretty good.

Watching some games over, he's consistently catching with his hands.. there are times when he drops a few, but the few times I caught that I believe it was more of a took his eyes off the ball in anticipation of moving up field too quickly, which happens.

It's been said that he was running in the 4.3's prior to breaking his foot, at 6'3'' 229 lbs.

What are your thoughts on him.. I'm incredibly impressed and he's grown on me, and he's right behind Bryant in my books.

Pretty much this. I think he's criminally underrated by internet draft pundits, but I expect him to be a first round pick and potentially a dominant #1 WR in the NFL. I think he's a tier one talent and I rank him above all of the 2009 WRs except Crabtree.

THomas reminds me of what David Boston could have been. He really knows how to get position on a defender and does a good job adjusting to the ball. And obviously he has quite a bit of experience run blocking.

I think it will take Thomas some time to develop however. It is already known that learning the WR position takes time(even though some make immediate impacts), but coming off of an injury, and a non pro style offense should hurt. But run blocking so much, could help him play earlier...so it could offset.

He played two years with Chan Gailey in a pro style offense

Measurements on Demaryius Thomas: 10 1/2 inch hands, 33 inch arms, 6'3'' 225 lbs, apparently running a high 4.3...

Combine heights/weights ripped from a message board post:

Sam Bradford: 6-foot-4 1/4, 236 pounds, 34 3/8-inch arm length, 9 1/2-inch hand span

Jimmy Clausen: 6-foot-2 5/8, 222 pounds, 30 3/4-inch arm length, 9-inch hand span

Colt McCoy: 6-foot-1 1/8, 216 pounds, 31-inch arm length, 9 3/8-inch hand span

Tim Tebow: 6-foot-2 3/4, 236 pounds, 31 3/4-inch arm length, 10 1/8-inch hand span

This can only help Bradford. Some people said he's too small, but 6'4" 236 is plenty big.

C.J. Spiller - 5'10 5/8, 196 pounds

Joe McKnight - 5'11 3/8, 198 pounds

Ryan Matthews - 5'11 5/8, 218 pounds

Jonathan Dwyer - 5'11 1/4, 229 pounds

Toby Gerhart - 6'0, 231 pounds

LeGarrette Blount - 6'0 1/2, 241 pounds

Jahvid Best - 5'10 1/8, 199 pounds

As expected, Spiller, Best, and McKnight are all very light while Dwyer and Mathews have more conventional featured back builds. Given the recent success of Chris Johnson and Jamaal Charles, that might not matter to some people.

Arrelious Benn - 6'1, 219 pounds

Dezmon Briscoe - 6'2, 207 pounds

Demaryius Thomas - 6'3 1/4, 224 pounds

Damian Williams - 6'0 5/8, 197 pounds

Golden Tate - 5'10 1/4, 199 pounds

Jordan Shipley - 5'11 1/4, 193 pounds

Mike Williams - 6'1 1/2, 221 pounds

Briscoe is pretty light for a 6'2" guy who lacks blazing speed. I think he's a good football player, but he might not have the raw physical tools. Tate is another loser here, checking in well under his listed height of 5'11". Thomas is a specimen at 6'3" 224. The big surprise might be Mike Williams, who's a lot heavier than I thought he'd be.

I was actually very happy seeing that Best weighed 199 (own him in 2 leagues already). I thought he'd be weighing in at 190-195, so this extra 5 pounds was a pleasant surprise.

Not even 6-1 or 200 pounds? This can't be right, can it? If it is, wow. That's gotta hurt him a lot.
I guess that's about what USC had him listed at. I just thought watching him play that he was like 6-3, 225. He doesn't strike me as very fast or agile, and so I thought size and strength were his best attributes. But at this, that's a big question mark.

My Updated RB Ranks

1. C.J. Spiller

2. Ryan Mathews

3. Jahvid Best

4. Montario Hardesty

5. Ben Tate

6. Toby Gerhardt

7. Anthony Dixon

8. Dexter McCluster

9. Jonathan Dwyer

10.LeGarratte Blount

There's lots of football left to be played, but the draft picture is gradually starting to crystallize. Here are some current thoughts on the cream of the crop and some sleepers:

WR

1. Dez Bryant, OK State - Having a mediocre season by his standards, but still looks like the only elite skill player in this draft. Big target with a smooth, explosive stride. Routinely makes circus catches. Very high ceiling. A rich man's Dwayne Bowe.

2. Demaryius Thomas, GA Tech - Making the most of limited opportunities. Physically resembles a #1 NFL WR. Another big target who moves surprisingly well. Figures to be a possession type like Marshall.

3. Mardy Gilyard, Cincinnati - Explosive athlete who shows good body control and catches everything thrown his way. Part Santonio Holmes. Part Jeremy Maclin. Seemingly has all the ingredients to become a productive starter. Lacks size and power, but should work well in a system that uses speed/finesse WRs. Would be a perfect late 1st rounder for the Colts.

I haven't seen any other WRs who have really impressed me yet.
Eric Decker of Minnesota belongs on this list. If you don't know about him yet, you should. Good size, great hands, tough as nails, big-time competitor and a very smart player. And he's fast enough. Very easily could be a first-round pick if he keeps playing the way he always has. One of his TD catches against Cal last week was one of the best I've ever seen. Got drilled helmet to helmet when he was up high in the air but still managed to hang onto the ball and get a foot in for the score. Then got several stitches in his face and came back to score another and throw for another.
I've never bumped a thread of mine before. But I couldn't help it. I'm not saying he's now been proven to be Jerry Rice or anything, but the guy can play. As I said.
