2011 #1 Pick (1 Viewer)

Obviously there's a lot to happen and a longggggg ways to go, but let's just do this for fun. So with the #1 pick next year, who do you take?

The most obvious candidates are Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson. Arian Foster and Frank Gore will probably also be in a lot of people's decisions.

I'll give my personal view then listen to all of yours.

Adrian Peterson is a superstar, but if Tavaris Jackson is their qb next year and Percy Harvin is their #1 wr, it will be pretty easy to stack the box. This probably won't slow AP down because he's been in situations like this before, but its enough for me to pass on him at #1. Also he has a monster workload (on pace for 400+ touches this year) so I would probably pass on him because he could be more succeptible injury, but I would rank him 2nd.

Frank Gore does not score enough td's and will most likely not have a competent qb, so I will pass on him.

Chris Johnson is awesome but very boom or bust. All those long runs last year have turned into 5 yarders this year. If Randy Moss was to resign with them that would sure give CJ a compelling case, but he is very boom or bust. He could run for another 2000 yards, or his 200 pound frame could catch up to the beating he's been taking.

Arian Foster would be my pick at #1. It may sound crazy, to some, but I do not care. He has a fantastic o-line and blocking full back. Owen Daniels and Andre should be more healthy, jacoby more experienced, so this passing game will be close to last year, forcing defenses to "pick their poison". With 4 in division games vs the Jags and colts combined, he already has 1/4 of schedule being a cake walk. He has deceptive speed, power, the goal line job, and good receiving skills. Questions of Ben Tate , Ward, Slaton and whoever they bring are pushed to the side for me. Tate will probably be like another 2nd rounder from this year, Toby Gerhart, nothing more than depth. Kubiak gave Slaton on average 19+ touches a game the first 7 games last year but Slaton sucked and fumbled. If Foster just holds the rock and stays healthy, he's looking at a 300+ carry, 40+ catch, 1500+yard, 12+ td season. I think he will be a fantasy force for at least the next 3-4 years.

That's just my opinion tho, lets hear yours.

This season the debate was between CJ, ADP, and Ray Rice... last year it was ADP, DeAngelo, or MJD... In 08 it was ADP or MJD, or Addai...

Take the guy who does it year after year. That's ADP.

I love Foster, but if you really want him trade down. You're accepting additional risk drafting him over ADP.

EDITED for bad memory.

Not even going to think about this one because ADP is going to lead me to championships in both my leagues this year, so I won't be getting the #1 pick next year.

:lmao: And for running backs I'll roll the dice on talent over situation especially a talent like AP, I'm not saying Foster doesn't have talent but you really can't put them in the same category

The number 1 and 2 spots are taken already by AP and CJ in whatever order you want.

I think the more important question is who should the number 3 pick be?

What does winning a championship have to do with what pick you have next season? Draft slots should never be determined by how the season goes unless you are in a dynasty league.

Mallett, Luck?FYI dynasty 2QB 6pts/passing TD.

QB's always go #1.

3 will be a pretty strong consensus for foster i imagine. and i agree with it.4 is where things get dicey.

It was done that way in a league I was in for many years. Got no problem with it and neither did anyone in the league.

Meh, not for me. If it's a PPR I go with Rice as the #4 pick and then maybe Gore. I have to admit, I had the #2 spot this year in two different leagues and seriously thought about going WR instead of ADP. I'm so glad I didn't. I'm right in the thick of things in both leagues and I know I wouldn't be had I picked Andre Johnson instead of Peterson.

Gotta agree with the poster a few above me here: 1 & 2 should be ADP and CJ. 3, 4, & 5 are the interesting picks - you're currently arguing over Gore, DMac, Arian, and Rice in these slots.

PS - obviously Dynasty is a different bird altogether, and doesn't really fit the discussion.

Yes draft slots are reverse order of previous year's final standings. Pretty common stuff, me thinks. Keeper leagues. Not dynasty.

I see Ray Rice falling back to being a late 1st round pick. He doesn't score enough (10 touchdowns in the last 24 games is not first round material), but still catches enough passes, and most leagues seem to haves some sort of PPR, to where he should still remain a first round pick. But top 5? No way. I am on the firm belief that your first round pick should be a guy that will put up good yardage and, barring injury or bad freak luck, will score double digit TDs (for RBs and WRs).

DeAngelo will be on a new team. Stewart will be a lead back with a rebuilt line and new coach. Both of these boys deserve 1st round consideration IMO.
