Obviously there's a lot to happen and a longggggg ways to go, but let's just do this for fun. So with the #1 pick next year, who do you take?
The most obvious candidates are Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson. Arian Foster and Frank Gore will probably also be in a lot of people's decisions.
I'll give my personal view then listen to all of yours.
Adrian Peterson is a superstar, but if Tavaris Jackson is their qb next year and Percy Harvin is their #1 wr, it will be pretty easy to stack the box. This probably won't slow AP down because he's been in situations like this before, but its enough for me to pass on him at #1. Also he has a monster workload (on pace for 400+ touches this year) so I would probably pass on him because he could be more succeptible injury, but I would rank him 2nd.
Frank Gore does not score enough td's and will most likely not have a competent qb, so I will pass on him.
Chris Johnson is awesome but very boom or bust. All those long runs last year have turned into 5 yarders this year. If Randy Moss was to resign with them that would sure give CJ a compelling case, but he is very boom or bust. He could run for another 2000 yards, or his 200 pound frame could catch up to the beating he's been taking.
Arian Foster would be my pick at #1. It may sound crazy, to some, but I do not care. He has a fantastic o-line and blocking full back. Owen Daniels and Andre should be more healthy, jacoby more experienced, so this passing game will be close to last year, forcing defenses to "pick their poison". With 4 in division games vs the Jags and colts combined, he already has 1/4 of schedule being a cake walk. He has deceptive speed, power, the goal line job, and good receiving skills. Questions of Ben Tate , Ward, Slaton and whoever they bring are pushed to the side for me. Tate will probably be like another 2nd rounder from this year, Toby Gerhart, nothing more than depth. Kubiak gave Slaton on average 19+ touches a game the first 7 games last year but Slaton sucked and fumbled. If Foster just holds the rock and stays healthy, he's looking at a 300+ carry, 40+ catch, 1500+yard, 12+ td season. I think he will be a fantasy force for at least the next 3-4 years.
That's just my opinion tho, lets hear yours.
