*** 2012 Official Philadelphia Eagles Post Mortem Thread *** (1 Viewer)

At this point I'll take it. He's not Kafka 2.0. Not as mobile but a bigger guy, stronger arm with better pocket sense under pressure. Clearly not a walk in the door stud but at this point in the draft, give me an upside QB that can learn from one of the best QB gurus. No one else is as appealing or valuable. At 6'5", 245lb and not mobile, he is clearly different than any QB we've had here in a VERY long time.

eagles are taking cousins. not a fan at all, but has been good draft so far. would have rather taken the ot massie that felledit: foles.. also not a fan I guess we are dumping kafkaI can't see us keeping all four: vick, edwards, kafka and foles. so who is out?
I think Edwards is gone if he doesn't win the back up job.

So much available now after 3 rounds.... I'd dare say trading 2013 picks (3rd and beyond) would be a good idea to get back at the top of Round 4 for CB or RB.

LOVED our first three picks. Absolutely LOVED them.

Hate Foles. But not surprised they took him.

Still need a DB to compete, DRC is not a starting caliber CB for a contender.

:goodposting: Echos my thoughts...would have preferred to pass on the QB's. Heck...woulda rather traded a pick to Cleveland for McCoy.But love the other picks...and QB wasn't exactly a surprise.

Care to elaborate on why you "hate" Foles?
I'll take a guess how my GB Woodrow feels about it....The Eagles are in true "win now" mode. Andy's on the hot seat, no one is getting younger and the fan base is teetering on getting unruly. Heads could roll if there's another 2011-type season. Even Lurie agrees.A rookie Day 2 QB does nada for 2012. Nothing. At all.Lamar Miller? He could contribute (and solidify the "what if Shady gets hurt" option). A 3rd corner would be on the field 20-30 snaps a week. O-line help would also be a good investment and someone who might see action.Either of those is worth more that a virtual luxury pick for a backup QB at best for 2013.

My love for the first 3 picks is what made me ok with then picking Foles. It was still a need position and given his size and positives, he seems like the perfect project QB for us. We had him in a couple times and for a private workout so they should have had a good look at him. Its almost impossible to mess up the rest of this IMHO. Go with DB or OL with any of the next picks and I'd feel great. We can always touch up DB or QB with a summer cut.

That's part of it. But I resigned myself to the fact the Eagles might take a QB after all that Tannehill talk. I just think Foles is nowhere close to being worthy of the 3rd round pick we used on him.For those who were smart enough to buy Waldman's RSP, he breaks it down far better than I can why Foles is wholly unspiring as a prospect, particularly for a system like Reid's.

Roseman might be here longer then Reid. He is the draft specialist.

Care to address Lamar Miller's shoulder? Or the OL talent available at the pick? While not the biggest Reid fan, I admire the "luxury pick" by a regime that's on the hot seat.

Bobby Massie's still available and he was projected to go in the 1st or 2nd round. Though with him and Lamar Miller still available, I wonder if teams know something we don't. I'm on the fence about the Foles pick. I hated it at first and I'm still not totally fond of it when we could have taken a guy like Boykin who fills TWO needs (slot corner/returner). I'm hoping this isn't a situation where Andy Reid thinks they're fine at CB (much like last year when he thought we were fine at LB) and passes on them.

Also, if the Eagles don't take a WR, what do you guys think about Plaxico? I know there's mixed opinions on him, but the fact that he hasn't gotten an offer yet (that we know of) makes me think he could be re-thinking his asking price and drop it down to something like 1 yr/1.5 million. Would you guys want him for that price or ANY price? I still can't help but think we need a red zone target.

I know I'm in the minority...but I think we are fine at WR. Expect a little more consistancy from Maclin, and some more growth from Cooper.

Best players left for Eagles, according to me:

RB

1. Cyrus Gray

2. Chris Polk

3. Lamar Miller

4. Tauren Poole

5. Brandon Bolden/Vick Ballard/Robert Turbin (take your pick of power back with limited speed)

WR

1. Jaron Criner

2. Chris Givens

3. Greg Childs

4. Rishard Matthews

5. Marvin Jones

6. Junior Hemingway

7. Marvin McNutt

8. Nick Toon

9. Tommy Streeter

10. Dwight Jones (red flags)

TE

1. Orson Charles

2. LaDarius Green

3. Taylor Thompson

4. Kevin Koger

LB

1. James-Michael Johnson

2. Audie Cole

3. Keenan Robinson

CB

1. Brandon Boykin

2. Alfonzo Dennard (red flags)

3. Chase Minnifield (red flags)

S

1. George Iloka

2. Antonio Allen

3. Markelle Martin

Also Jared Crick is a real bargain at this point but we don't have any more room on the D-Line.

I also wonder why players fall as far as they do and to me it means 32 experts saw something we didn't or media people didnt. So Im not to upset on missing out on guys like Massey and Miller who seemed to be 2nd rounds grade by most fans and media personal. I think it's to hard to really judge Foles becuase like I said in a previous post he didn't have much talent around him and had poor coaching. If anything I give Foles a lot of credit for making that garbage heap into a decent offense. Boykin is still out there but I don't see CB as the big need others do I think Hanson is a good nickel CB who just doesn't play well when he has to start on the outside. I also think Samuels hurt Hanson when he was asked to start because unlike other top CB Samuels didn't follow number 1 Wr's leaving Hanson to cover guys he is on the same level with. I also liked Marsh last year and he didn't show me any reason to think he cant be a starting Cb in the future. Im much more worried about SS I wasn't a big Jarrett fan and I think Coleman is a number 3 Safety. I wouldn't want Plaxico is he came for free and would see popcorn when the defense was on the field. He is a much older player and I think he is only going to get worse. I was hoping Cooper could be the big target but he seems a little soft at times. I dont think you take a player in the draft because of need so I wouldnt target a certain player but there are other tall Wr you can try and turn into a redzone wr

Schefter just reported Miller is falling due to concerns about knees & shoulders. But then came back to say that he could be a steal for whoever takes him

I know they were disappointed a bit about not getting Jenkins, but I think they were more disappointed about missing out on Osweiler and Wilson. I know they liked both.

I expect a CB in this round.

Foles? Really?WTFGod, I hate Andy Reid. I really do.
Don't like Foles either (would have rather traded for McCoy, or taken Cousins if they were dead set on going via draft)....but no reason to hate there. Wasn't exactly a surprise, and it could certainly be argued that we could use a developmental QB.Couldn't be happier about the first 3 picks.

I agree that they really need to think about the future QB but Foles? It's a wasted pick, imo. Trade up and take someone better or make a trade. Do something for a better player that has greater potential than Foles.

just edited my post. Foles far from my first choice...but he has potential and many folks much smarter than you or I had him rated that high, and not just Andy and his war-room. We don't have to like the pick, but this pick is not one deserving of "hate"

What qb would have been a better project at that point? Cousins might be smart but they say he lacks a lot of room to improve.

I think I'm pretty comfortable with Eagles just going BPA for their last 4 picks. Though OL depth and a WR would be nice. I just think Jason Avant could be upgraded.

Great value, looks like Boykin was projected to go in the 2nd by most. Would have preferred Massie over the QB but we'll see, maybe Andy can rob a team of some picks for him in a few years like he did with Kolb/Feeley/McFlabb.

Absolutely love this Brandon Boykin pick in the 4th round. I am just curious as to why this guy fell to the 4th round.

Please will somebody tell Dave Spadaro and Merrill Reese to stop talking so much about a player filling a kickoff return need.

Don't they know that the Kickoff returns are becoming insignificant with the rule changes.

Sounds like Boykin's is a major injury risk. If he stays healthy he's a steal.

The Eagles are having a great draft. Foles is pure gravy. If he doesn't pan out, there's still 4 potential starters here on defense - as soon as this year.

DT - Cox - rotation inside of DL Day 1

LB - Kendricks - OLB (SAM or WILL) this year

DE - Curry - won't "start", but the Eagles love to rotate DEs. He's the 3rd DE likely this year.

CB - Boykin - slot corner over Hanson (who should be dime corner) this year, and KR / PR capability (so DeSean and Maclin stay healthier)

Loving this so far.

Depth on OL and a RB and this would be an "A" grade for sure.

What's the next pick? OL? What about a guy like Vontaze Burfict? Any interest?
Burfict shouldn't be drafted in any round by any team. S, OT, RB, WR, who knows? Depends on the player.
Charlie Casserly:"25% of guys drafted in Round 4 and beyond never start; Round 5 it drops to 20%; Round 6, 9%...."paraphrasing, but interesting numbers.
Recent eagles history would suggest the opposite to be true. We love us some 7th round starters
