You can say that for any hire. Ultimately, fail or succeed, it's an inspired choice. Trestman has tons of NFL experience, has remained in demand as a QB guru in recent years all the while coaching in the CFL to great success, he's shown a willingness to augment his play-calling to suit his team's personnel (even going so far as to completely abandon the WCO in NC State), and has fielded very productive offenses with the likes of Rich Gannon (who became a completely different player under Trestman's watch) and Elvis Grbac of all people.Looks like it is officialhttp://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/nfl/254186/report-bears-hire-trestman-to-replace-lovieI personally wanted Arians, but this is a risky play that can do well or blow up in their faces.
they say mccoy rather work with rives then cutlerMcCoy was my #1 choice but Trestman was my second pick, so I'm pretty stoked. ESPN says he will bring in Aaron Kromer as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. Curious to see what happens on defense. I can see Marinelli being the DC and I can also see making a clean break and bringing in someone new, glad it's not my call. Come on free agency/draft/2013!
Phil Emery is the smartest guy in the league, probably the world. Look at how thorough his search was! Look at his damn glasses!!1!

Neither did Jumpin Jerry. Ask around on that, too.Hey hey hey....Phil Emery doesn't make wrong decisions. Ask around.Go to hell, Bears! That's it. That's the last mistake I'll ever see by this team. You're just another joke of the many in Bears history, Emery. As long as you continue your run of 1st round busts and terrible head coaches, you will fit in just fine around here. You should've waited another year and brought in Lane Kiffin, though. He's a good guy.
I think this hire could really work out, especially if they let him use 12 players.

@BMarshallHeard so many GREAT things about Coach Trestman can't wait to follow his lead. Reading his book now
Meh, not overly excited about this. I live in Dallas so I see quite a bit of the Cowboys, can't say I've seen anything noteworthy from their special teams.Joe DeCamillis will be Bears assistant head coach, special teams coordinator, sources say.
How did he do against the Roughriders? Or how about against the Rough Riders?Living in Canada, and seeing a few of his games I can tell you that's hes definitely a solid HC from what I've seen(FWIW I'm basically a casual CFL fan).
Montreal Allouettes QB Anthony Calvillo was on local radio here, and I am impressed with the was he was saying about Trestman.Living in Canada, and seeing a few of his games I can tell you that's hes definitely a solid HC from what I've seen(FWIW I'm basically a casual CFL fan).
Yeah, but that guy thinks Sean Austin is really RudyTim Brown was surprised that he was even considered. He didn't think of him as HC material.
Just look at who's torching it.The NFL is an offensive league. No reason living in the past. Trestman had a lot of success in Montreal in a short time. With him they won two championships, were runner-up another year and set a franchise record for points scored in a season.I've been as critical of this organization as anyone but I don't know why people are torching this move. I like it.

You really think he was hired for his CFL resume?

Not completely disregarded. I'd say it possibly had a minor impact, being that his teams didn't suck over there. No secret why he was hired. We needed a coach that's going to get the most out of Cutler. He's got an impressive history of coaching up qbs....NFL qbsYou really think it was completely disregarded?Just look at who's torching it.The NFL is an offensive league. No reason living in the past. I'm here for you, brohan.Well, I for one am going to ##### for years about the offensive line, and then when they hire an offensive minded coach, ##### about that, too. Oh, nevermind. I see flapgreen has already taken care of that.
I'm with you on that. Further, a lot of the critics make no sense; they ask why he hasn't been a HC before as if that is an indictment. Let's remember this is a league that gave Wanny and Jauron not one but 2 shots at a HC position, amongst other laughable nods to guys that had already proven they had no business taking that spot. In short, I don't see how his "failure to land an HC job" has any bearing on anything.Just look at who's torching it.The NFL is an offensive league. No reason living in the past. i think it has been confirmed that he will sit for a years collect his 5 mil, and try next year as he does not want to be a coordinatorCouple of crazy/exciting days for Bears fans. Is it possible that Lovie Smith doesn't even get HC gig this year? All that is left are the Jaguars and Cardinals HC positions... and for some reason I don't see Lovie being a DC for anyone.
I guess now that we have an offensive minded head coach the o line problems are gone.I'm here for you, brohan.Well, I for one am going to ##### for years about the offensive line, and then when they hire an offensive minded coach, ##### about that, too. "The year he took over as offensive coordinator is also the year my reign with the Raiders ended because he made Jerry the No. 1 receiver instead of myself," Brown said. "The year before I made the Pro Bowl and caught [91 passes for 1,165 yards] ... and the year afterwards, the year he takes over I think I came like 50 yards from catching 1,000 yards in 10 or 11 straight seasons."he has an axe to grind, and his butt hurts.Yeah, but that guy thinks Sean Austin is really RudyTim Brown was surprised that he was even considered. It's amazing how little you know about football. Briggs has always been the better LB? lol. ok. I find it funny how quickly you are to support every decision made by management at the time, but then so quick to drop Urlacher because you think he ran his mouth when he shouldn't have while taking up for his team. I guess he's that replaceable to you. Just let him walk, eh? Thanks for the memories?-Brian Urlacher. Fate was sealed with Lovie's firing and running your mouth about the fans. Always said Briggs was the better LB in Chicago.
Melton ain't pre-injury Tommie Harris, not even close. They will re-sign him a higher cost, but not a top 5 guy, because he's not a top 5 guy.-Henry Melton. Great athlete and is essentially the Tommie Harris pre-injuries. Very quick and disruptive. He needs to be resigned, but will be costly.
Definitely. Found a good backup or even starter there for a while.-Jonathan Scott. Bring him back at a swing tackle price.
If you're saying they won't find a way to restructure and keep Peppers, you're nuts. They won't go into the season with Shea and Wooten as starters with an aging Idonije(always been a huge idonije fan). Shea definitely has not showed he's ready to start, not even close. Not sure where you're getting that from. Wooten managed to stay healthy last year, but had not for almost every previous year of his career. He had a good year, though. Paea was average at best last year. Shea looked like a little ##### getting pushed aroundNick Roach will be cheap. I think they'll keep him.-Julius Peppers. Great player since he came to Chicago(better than expected). Didn't have a great year, injuries...perhaps old age(turns 33). However, his contract the next 3 years= 12.9, 13.9, 16.5 million. Too much money for the production and could be used in better ways.
-DL. Wootton/McClellin/Melton/Paea is a pretty good young group. Wootton and McClellin are the future
Way off on this one as well. They will keep him and his much more valuable than you're implying, much like Peppers and Urlacher.Don't know the cap hit Davis will give yet. If it won't affect the cap much, they will keep him. Have to figure in how big of a cap hit it will be first.-Devin Hester. Hasn't been a good returner lately and has a roster bonus of $10 million in the spring that deescalates...meaning it's performance based. Either way, he isn't worth $2 million at this point. Will never be the WR some YOU imagined and isn't the returner right now. What's the point of wasting a roster spot?
Nowhere near the top in needs.Definitely don't re-sign Cutler right away.-CB. This is a big need. Tim Jennings and Charles Tillman are UFA after the 2013 season. Behind them, it's scary. Chicago has no good nickel DB to matchup with Randall Cobb/Percy Harvin/other good slot WRs.
they also have a j rice quote where he complains about Trestman, and a year later after he made him the #1 WR he praises him. that's how WR are.'whitem0nkey said:"The year he took over as offensive coordinator is also the year my reign with the Raiders ended because he made Jerry the No. 1 receiver instead of myself," Brown said. First off, where did I say they were gone? Secondly, it's obvious that the Bears defensive minded coach ignored the line for years. Would you say that an offensive minded coach is more likely or less likely to address it?Jeebus, you're dumb.'RBM said:I guess now that we have an offensive minded head coach the o line problems are gone.'flapgreen said:I'm here for you, brohan.'SmoovySmoov said:Well, I for one am going to ##### for years about the offensive line, and then when they hire an offensive minded coach, ##### about that, too. Link?Rod Marinelli will NOT return as the Bears Defensive Coordinator. Replacement unknown at this point.

I'm dumb? It's the general managers job in Chicago to deliver the personnel. Has been for years.Get a clue before you run your mouth.First off, where did I say they were gone?
