Well, I for one am going to ##### for years about the offensive line, and then when they hire an offensive minded coach, ##### about that, too. Oh, nevermind. I see flapgreen has already taken care of that.
I'm here for you, brohan.
I guess now that we have an offensive minded head coach the o line problems are gone.
First off, where did I say they were gone? Secondly, it's obvious that the Bears defensive minded coach ignored the line for years. Would you say that an offensive minded coach is more likely or less likely to address it?Jeebus, you're dumb.
I'm dumb? It's the general managers job in Chicago to deliver the personnel. Has been for years.Get a clue before you run your mouth.
Yes. Yes, you are very dumb. It comes through in every post you make. You're in the BoneYardDog tier of dumb. The fact that you of all people would tell someone else to get a clue might be the funniest thing ever posted on the internet.

Thanks. You're the ###### that had to get personal in a thread talking about a football team. Yeah, that makes sense.

First nugget from the press conference:Emery DEFINITELY took CFL experience into account when making the decision. He just spent 5 minutes describing the process of Trestman's moving up to Montreal and setting up the organization from scratch.

Rod Marinelli will NOT return as the Bears Defensive Coordinator. Replacement unknown at this point.
Link?

Was kind of expecting Marinelli to stay with Lovie sitting this year out. Don't really have strong feelings on way or another with him staying/going. There's some comfort in keeping him as the defense looked amazing at times last year, but IMO they are fast approaching a huge dropoff due to age. Might be a smart move by Marinelli to jump ship before the defense flounders.

Watching the PC. Likeable, passionate guy. I like how much respect he has for the tradition of the franchise."Protect the qb, and go get the qb". Love that"Dominate the line of scrimmage"

Trestman just confirmed that Marinelli has decided to move on.Said he has to evaluate the players before deciding on a direction for defensive scheme, which will depend on the talent they have.

Cutler "loves football, he wants to be great. And hopefully we can give him some direction and protection, not to waste a play, to complete a throwing motion..."

Scary to hear him talk about how he needs to learn about his players, plus all the players on every other team. He's got a TON of work to do.That is the part of not being in the league for 10 yrs that makes you nervous.

I like that he will be calling the plays directly to jay, and that the most important marriage is the one with the head coach and the QB.

Surely he's been playing fantasy football. If so, he already knows almost as much as FBG sharks.

Ah there it comes...

Linebacker coach I would be fine with. DC I don't think so. I loved watching Singletary play and he's a fiery guy, but he just doesn't seem to have what is needed to be an effective high level coach. To me Samurai Mike as the DC would reek of a spur of the moment desperation hire.

:goodposting:

New Bears coach Marc Trestman recruited Tim Tebow to North Carolina State in 2006 and tutored Tebow in preparation for the 2010 Senior Bowl."I believe in the right environment Tim Tebow will figure this out," Trestman said in 2010. "He doesn’t have explosive arm strength, but he has more than adequate arm strength to throw the ball in the NFL and make all the throws. ... If you’re a coach and you love coaching quarterbacks, you’d love the opportunity to develop Tim Tebow." The Jets are expected to release Tebow after the Super Bowl, so Trestman should have an opportunity to sign him in March.

Folks making the Tebow connection are simply name-dropping trying to generate page views on their blog I think. I honestly can't think of a single good reason to bring Tebow to Chicago and am guessing that Trestman was being diplomatic. I will file this under sensationalism and hope it disappears quickly.

Said they tried to get Marinelli to stay but he declined. Huge loss but what can you do. Defense will definitely take a step back. :(

Couple of good DCs that might be available soon....Horton from Az and Tucker from Jac.Spagnullo is out there but he's been a disaster since his Giants days. I'd like to see us get someone with experience running a D.

FINALLY, Darryl Drake is gone! That turd should've been gone years ago. Hurt the progress of the wrs for years on this team. Another one of your boys, Benson. :bye: Babich moving on as well. Not sure on Hoke yet but I'll bet he's gone as well. Lost the entire staff. :(

Heard on The Score today that Hoke might be a candidate for DC

I have never understood why Drake wasn't launched long ago. The WRs have been awful for a long time. I'm assuming that Tice is gone too. Tice can go work his magic somewhere else.

You're annoying, continually complain like a teenage girl, and gain entitlement by digging at people. However, the point of this thread is to share thoughts/ideas and gain a better knowledge of Chicago Bears football.Darryl Drake is a good coach. Have the Bears continually supplied him with great WR's since he arrived? No. QB play has only gotten better recently and it still isn't great. However Drake has coached 5 of the top 27 single season reception leaders in franchise history and 4 of the top 23 in yardage. Both include four different players: Marshall/Berrian/Muhammed/Hester in rec. Marshall/Berrian/Muhammed/Knox in yards. Drake turned Berrian(3rd round pick) into a solid player, then when Berrian left for more money, he didn't continue to progress. In fact, 2 of his best 3 seasons in the NFL were in Chicago. But that's Drake's fault right?Johnny Knox was a 5th round pick(how many of 5th rounders produce?) from a small school. Drake turned him around into an almost 1,000 yard WR. The only time Chicago supplied him with a great player, he turned in the best performance not only in Chicago Bears history, but also in Marshall's career(spanning 7 seasons). Marshall set career highs in receptions, yards, touchdowns, and was still above his career average in YPC. Marshall finished 2nd in the NFL in receptions, 3rd in yards, and fourth in touchdowns. Certainly this isn't a sign of a bad coach.

Any opinions on maybe bringing in Singletary as DC?
Dear God, please no.
Then who? Horton? Rob Ryan? Internal promotion?
Horton would be a great hire. They've indicated some discussion with DB coach Jon Hoke, who has had multiple DC interviews the past couple of seasons.I would like to see someone with DC experience get the job. It appears that Trestman will concentrate on Offense,so having that experience on the other side of the ball calling plays will be valuable.

The only name that jumps out at me is Rob Ryan, and after seeing his work in Dallas I don't think he would be a good solution for Chicago. I don't think he got a fair shake in Dallas and think he was canned as scapegoat, but his intense persona seems like it would wear thin on the players very quickly. I honestly don't know what they should do on defense, I wasn't expecting them to have to start from scratch. Like I said earlier in the thread, I'm glad I don't have to make those decisions. I haven't spent much time researching D coaches, but there seem to be a bunch of meh options out there.

-Brian Urlacher. Fate was sealed with Lovie's firing and running your mouth about the fans. Always said Briggs was the better LB in Chicago.
It's amazing how little you know about football. Briggs has always been the better LB? lol. ok. I find it funny how quickly you are to support every decision made by management at the time, but then so quick to drop Urlacher because you think he ran his mouth when he shouldn't have while taking up for his team. I guess he's that replaceable to you. Just let him walk, eh? Thanks for the memories?[b How little I know about football, please lets have some type of faceoff with this. Urlacher is overrated. Was he a good player? Yes. He just didn't make enough big time plays for me to deem him a great player. I believe Briggs is more consistent than Urlacher, doesn't miss time due to injuries, makes big plays when Chicago needs them. 4th and 1, vs Seattle,4th quarter, wildcard game,2006. Briggs tackles Shaun Alexander in the backfield. Versus Detroit, week 1, 2010, Briggs not only hits Jahvid Best right when he gets the handoff, he strips and recovers the football on the 1 yardline. Of course Chicago fails to convert. But those are big time plays, yes Urlacher has made plays as well. I just think Briggs is a better player(tough to compare different positions).

Quickly support every decision? I just don't jump off the cliff like you do all the time. Give it some time to soak in and evaluate later.

Nick Roach played better at MLB than Urlacher statistically this season(profootballfocus).

-Henry Melton. Great athlete and is essentially the Tommie Harris pre-injuries. Very quick and disruptive. He needs to be resigned, but will be costly.
Melton ain't pre-injury Tommie Harris, not even close. They will re-sign him a higher cost, but not a top 5 guy, because he's not a top 5 guy. You're way off here. Comparing the two. Most sacks in a season: Harris with 8. Melton has had two seasons with 7 and 6. Harris next best season in his career is 5. Forced Fumbles: Harris has 5 in his career, Melton has 3. Oh by the way Melton has only played for 3 seasons.

-Julius Peppers. Great player since he came to Chicago(better than expected). Didn't have a great year, injuries...perhaps old age(turns 33). However, his contract the next 3 years= 12.9, 13.9, 16.5 million. Too much money for the production and could be used in better ways.

-DL. Wootton/McClellin/Melton/Paea is a pretty good young group. Wootton and McClellin are the future
If you're saying they won't find a way to restructure and keep Peppers, you're nuts. They won't go into the season with Shea and Wooten as starters with an aging Idonije(always been a huge idonije fan). Shea definitely has not showed he's ready to start, not even close. Not sure where you're getting that from. Wooten managed to stay healthy last year, but had not for almost every previous year of his career. He had a good year, though. Paea was average at best last year. Shea looked like a little ##### getting pushed aroundI'm saying if Peppers doesn't restructure, releasing him wouldn't be out of the question if Chicago needed to use money elsewhere(OL). Give McClellin some time, my goodness...he's a rookie. Wootton finally put a solid season together, he could take the next step and be a full time guy next year.

Will keep Spaeth at what he does for cheap.

Not worth the over a million he's due.

-Devin Hester. Hasn't been a good returner lately and has a roster bonus of $10 million in the spring that deescalates...meaning it's performance based. Either way, he isn't worth $2 million at this point. Will never be the WR some YOU imagined and isn't the returner right now. What's the point of wasting a roster spot?
Way off on this one as well. They will keep him and his much more valuable than you're implying, much like Peppers and Urlacher. When did I say he would be a great WR?

Why is he much more valuable? Dances too much returning and not even a solid WR. He's lost the edge and a waste at this point.

-CB. This is a big need. Tim Jennings and Charles Tillman are UFA after the 2013 season. Behind them, it's scary. Chicago has no good nickel DB to matchup with Randall Cobb/Percy Harvin/other good slot WRs.
Nowhere near the top in needs.Just like the OL with Angelo, if you ignore a position and don't look to improve it...it will come back to haunt you.

Hardin is a bum and hasn't been healthy for his entire football life. Conte/Wright could be a decent combo, but my confidence in Wright is fading fast and I'm a little concerned about the frequency of Conte's injuries.

Again stop rushing to judgement. Give it some time. Hardin was a rookie, if he gets hurt next year, okay. Conte/Wright have been a good combo when healthy, with a chance to be great IMO.

Basically, your plan is to tear the team down and rebuild it again. Get rid of Urlacher, Hester and Peppers. That sound right? From hearing what Emery had to say and with the pieces we have in place, that's not happening either, especially with the lose of Toub and Marinell looming. That will take a huge toll on the defense and ST alone. Step back into reality, Benson. You should hang out here more often.

I would not bring back Urlacher or Hester unless they take considerably less money and a change in attitude. Peppers may return at the same salary, but if Emery wants to make a run at a top free agent, this is a guy he could save some cap space with by either restructuring/releasing. Peppers can be a great player, but I bet you didn't know Izzy was a better pass rusher statistically(Profootballfocus) this past season.

One quick thought on the Bears first round pick. The Bears need another WR to take the heat off of Marshall. Trestman may want another toy to play with to create mismatches. From what i've researched through seeing highlights from Canada, he works the middle of the field often. What about Tavon Austin WR West Virginia?Austin can be used on reverses, work the slot, take over as the returner, and be an all around threat. If this happens, I would assume Emery has already signed a solid OL in free agency.

Why would Del Rio leave Denver for the same position?Bowles is headed to Ariz with Arians.

Anyone besides me thinking Lovie as HC with Trestman as OC would have been an awesome combo?

Fixed. But I am still OK with Trestman as HC. As far as Lovie goes, I didn't see much genuine interest in him from other teams. Lovie supporters still upset that we let go of a good coach?

Let's not get things twisted. You like to talk a lot if junk to me, but then disappear for months and act like I'm the only one that does it. Then, you spin it like I'm a child and don't want to discuss football. You're the only one I dig at. There's a reason for it. Also, let's not make it sound like a personal thing. The worst thing I've said is that you don't know much about football. Much worse things have been said in these threads. If you can't see through the trash and I bother you that much, I guess you could go the way of Stat and block me. However, I see it as silly when someone goes to the trouble of going to a different page to enter me into a block list, when I never make personal attacks. You can do as you like, though.Eta: There's absolutely nothing to indicate Drake is a good coach. You can only use the "he had nothing to work with" excuse for so long.

No I was fine with the firing. Just a little nervous about the defense now. I guess I could have also said...."You know who would be the perfect DC? Lovie!"

I love the fact that Trestman refers back to the offensive line with most questions. I truly feel like the team will take a step back this season and maybe win 8 games. You don't lose the entire defensive staff on one of the best defenses in the league and not suffer some for it.

Ray Horton angry after Cardinals hire Bruce Arianshe's a quality coordinator. and was about to become a HC, I know he has run a different defense than we currently employ, but im sure Emry has had a conversation with him already to see if he wan adjust his system to fit our players.the only negative is that after 2 years he may leave us for a HC job.
