Time to pick up Gregg and drop Marmol?
Marmol was in for the save after pitching two innings the previous night. I'm thinking he and Russell are still the two to own for now. The guy allowed a hit to Votto for the second time in 16 ABs. It wasn't like he stunk up the joint. That said, why they didn't pitch around him with first base open is beyond me.
I can't let a few good games from Marmol in a row cloud all the bad he's done over the last couple of years. I now have Gregg.
This doesn't make sense, Gregg has been just as bad in recent years.
Gregg has had a 1.67 WHIP the past two years, his K/9 isn't as good as Marmol's and his ERA is worse. I hate Marmol and think he's >>>Gregg
It has come to my attention that you may not be my internet chat buddy. I am shocked and/or appalled.

I think Fujikawa will get another shot when he comes off the DL. I'm less confident than I was a month ago about his ability to thrive in the role but that's based on a small sample observation right before he went on the DL.Caveat: Fujikawa owner in cakeleeg (also Marmol and briefly Russell in the same league).

I have all of Gregg, Russell, Camp and Fujikawa (no Gregg) between 3 leagues. Russell has been the best pitcher but is likely locked in as the lefty specialist. Camp has been bad in closing situations. Gregg has been bad for 2 years, I think it's still Marmol or Fujikawa, with a slight edge to Marmol.

Gregg's not a good pitcher, but mentally he can handle the 9th. I really don't think Marmol can. When it goes bad, it goes real bad, quickly. Can't have that in the 9th, need to put him in middle relief so you can hook him quick if things go awry.

Marmol got the save last time out but came in during the 8th to clean up a mess but got pinch hit for so Gregg will get the save opportunity.

Crap. Clean 9th.I really don't want to own Gregg. But I can't leave a former closer that got a save when the shaky other closer pitched earlier in the game on the wire.

Over the last 2 weeks he has 5 saves, 1 win, and 13 K's over 7 innings.

I am skeptical that Hanrahan will be given the keys immediately.

So, do nothing with him until you know what is going on.

I think Hanrahan gets another shot, they are going to build him back up to trade around the deadline IMO
Just read that Hanrahan has been told he will not be closing
I still think he gets a shot again before the deadline
I don't doubt that he'll be closing again sometime this season, but I really don't see what the trade deadline has to do with it.Generally, contenders don't go trading away RP at the deadline. There's a good chance BOS is one of the 2 best teams in the AL.

He will be a FA at the end of the season. If they're comfortable with Bailey/Uehara/Tazawa in the 7-9 range I think they deal him and get something rather then let him walk for nothing. Health is a major factor of course but if all are pitching like they are right now he will be dealt IMO.

Teams know what Hanrahan is though. It's not like the Sox need to showcase him or anything. I doubt they wil move him anyway.

Seems like they might have been worried about Bailey's health in the offseason because I thought it made very little sense bringing in Hanrahan. He's a FA after the season so if Boston is set at the backend and can get some good chips back, I think they deal him without thinking twice. To me they are a fade candidate in the second half, getting more talent in the organization for a guy you can get good returns for seems like a no-brainer.

I don't really see them as a very likely fade candidate. The Yankees will give them a run, but outside of that, I just don't see much competition for that division. It's not the AL Central or anything, but it's the weakest we've seen in a long time.

I think their starters are questionable and when they stop hitting, it might get ugly in stretches. Plus people (me included) sell Baltimore short while I think Toronto needs time to gel and will probably be a strong second half team.

I think we're talking about the Red Sox here. Their starting pitching has the potential to be the best in the division but they lack depth if one of their front-line guys goes down for any length of time. They aren't a great team but they're certainly good enough to hang around the AL playoff picture all year.

Hanrahan isn't as valuable in real-life as a regular closer is in fantasy. He won't bring a huge return at the deadline, especially with the new compensation rules. If he's healthy and pitching OK, he's worth it to the Sox to keep him all year, regardless of his bullpen role.

I'd like Shawn Camp to choose another career path. Yesterday. No, not a closer. But also, not a MLB relief pitcher. What the hell is going on in Chicago? How in the hell was he their best option today? Catch SARS, Camp.

Bailey's apparently got some bicep soreness. Not that that's of much comfort.
From CBS:

Red Sox manager John Farrell told reporters that Andrew Bailey was not available to pitch in the ninth inning of Thursday's contest against the Blue Jays due to biceps soreness.

The Red Sox rolled with Joel Hanrahan in the ninth to close out a 3-1 victory.
Bailey initially felt discomfort in his biceps Wednesday. He has not appeared in a game since April 28 and his status remains up in the air for the next few days. The Red Sox will use Hanrahan if Bailey is not ready to return during their three-game weekend set against the Rangers.
"He was able to put a ball in his hands, but it didn't feel right, as he said, so we're not going to take any chances with that, particularly with Joel being back healthy," Farrell said.

I've said it here before, but I'm working under the assumption that Theo has purposefully put together a dumpster fire of a bullpen to ensure the Cubs don't win many games.

Boggs down, Carlos Martinez up for STL, could this eventually affect Mujica?
Not if he's as effective as he has been since taking the role. Motte magically getting better is probably more of a threat at this point.
Yeah the thing with Motte is that there is no telling how effective he will be or how long he'll last. A "low grade tear" seems to indicate a no man's land here because I think similar injuries are usually Tommy John surgery in the end. Let me check with Dparker on this and I'll get back to you, I'm sure he has all the particulars by now.

Billingsley is the most recent case of someone trying to pitch through a partial tear. No guarantee he will need TJ if he tries to come back without it, but likelihood is much, much, much higher.

If he makes it back and has a good month I am selling him in my dyno. TJ means I'm not keeping him, so I want something of value if I can for him.

Hopefully MAC got good trade value on him. I think that's what we were all concerned about in here.

With my shaky team, I don 't know how much longer I can keep a bench spot for Kenley Jansen. How bad does League have to play before Jensen is given a shot?

Pestano might be headed to DL. I had high hopes for him this season, but he's not seeing much action and Perez has been solid.
