*** 2013 NFL Scouting Combine Thread *** (1 Viewer)

Also, a lot of these RB times seem "slow" and makes those WR times look more legit.ETA--An almost 230 lb RB just ran a 4.30 and NFLN just glossed over it like it's no big deal. It's freakish for a guy that size. This programming is terrible.

You know I'm watching these guys out here and I know people keep saying that this draft is so much worse than last year, terrible, etc but besides quarterback I'm not really seeing any lack of talent. I think Lacy, Ball, Bernard, and Davis are pretty freaking awesome at RB. WR is LOADED. Patterson, Wheaton, Hunter, Allen, Hunter, Woods, and on and on and on. Eifert, Escobar and Ertz looked fantastic yesterday. I'm pretty pumped for the draft.

Will be interesting to see what the NFL thinks of Davis medically, and where he gets drafted. That fast and that big with solid production would be the #1 RB most years.

Also surprised that Bell looked pretty fit and ran a respectable time. Davis, Michael, and Bell look to be the winners at RB so far. Taylor will plummet like a stone if he doesn't come back and run 4.60 or better. Did Spencer Ware run? I missed that if he did.

Knile Davis with 31 reps, wow!

Christine Michael 27

Zac Stacy 27

Chris Thompson at 5'7", 192 lbs puts up 21!

Markus Wheaton 20 reps!
Guy's a lot smaller than I thought too, I would have thought he'd be 6'0+. I'm starting to come around on him.
He's 227 lbs. 5'10', 6', not much difference at that weight.
A 2 inch difference is pretty significant. And watching him play I would have guessed he was closer to 6'1 than 5'10.
Being 5'10" is better than 6' for a RB anyway and shorter doesn't equal smaller.
Exactly, that's why I said I was starting to come around on him..

Davis is going to be a dynasty darling of the underware olympics.
Are you aware that he has some great tape out there, pre-injury? He's not a workout warrior, he's not Mario Fannin. He was my #2 RB pre-injury.
Ive always been high in davis. The what have you done for me lately crowd will now be back on board. That was the point.
They're going to be too busy going after "the next Chris Johnson" in Onterio McCalebb

Gotcha. Gotta agree with you there. Those who don't follow prospects until this time of year will now go back and find his pre-injury tape.

He's 5'10 168. No ones going to make that mistake.

great tape??? what from high school? davis is fast and big. that's all he has going for him. he's lackluster on tape, lacks vision and decisiveness. i'd like to see this great tape you're talking about showing he's more than a straight line guy with muscles.

Yeah, Davis was #2 on just about every board a year ago. Right behind Lattimore. I'm glad to see he recovered this well from his injury. Looks like he should be 100% and this performance will vault him significantly in the draft. He had tremendous game tape a couple of years ago.

Huh? High school? How about 2010 when he ran for 1300 yds and 13 TDs in the SEC and was considered by many as the #1 or #2 RB in the country before he got hurt.

nice stats, unimpressive tape. all i see is speed. that's great in college, won't get you far in the nfl if you lack vision and decisiveness, which imo he lacks.

My hopes of Christine Michael going under the radar are gone.
Really solid athletic profile. Ran a 4.41 unofficial and just jumped 10'5" in the broad. Killed the vertical with a ridiculous 43" inches. All of the hype will be about Davis, but this guy has the best physical profile of any RB in this draft. Can't see him slipping out of the first three rounds even despite his kind of ho-hum college career and injury issues.

How can Hunter NOT be the #1 WR after today? What else more would be have to do? I haven't watched him at all FWIW

He is an explosive athlete. He and Goodwin are elite long jumpers, so it's no surprise to see them crush the broad jump. They've got a lot of pop in their legs. In terms of weaknesses, Hunter is really light for his height and I don't think he's got great lateral/make-you-miss kind of quickness. His game is all vertical.Still think he's a pretty talented prospect though.

:goodposting: spot on.

On the other end of the spectrum, Stepfan Taylor has really been exposed today. Explosiveness was always the question mark with him, but I was expecting a 40 time somewhere in the 4.55-4.65 range. 4.72 unofficial is atrocious. That's high school kid stuff. Combine that with his 30" vertical and 9'2" broad jump, and he might be lucky to even get drafted. No one took a bigger hit on my board in the last two days.

One guy who won't get a lot of attention, but also had a pretty solid day is Georgia WR Tavarres King. He is never going to be a #1 WR in the NFL, but he can potentially be a decent #2. 6' 189. 4.47 40, 36.5" vert, 10'3" broad jump. Looked like a pretty polished product at the Senior Bowl. He will go 3rd-4th round and become a decent complementary player for somebody.

Completely disappointing across the board. UDFA is a very real possibility.

Who is Josh Boyce?
He has been on the radar for years because he got significant PT as a true freshman for the TCU team with Dalton/Kerley that played in the Rose Bowl. The book on him is that he was a mediocre athlete with no upside. That's not what you'd think looking at the numbers.

Very comparable numbers (except bench) to Wheaton who is expected to go much higher. Could be a steal if he lasts to the 4th round.

A couple other thoughts on the RBs:

LeVeon Bell - Nice 40 time and looked to be in much better shape, but didn't show anything in the other drills.

Kenjon Barner - Quietly had a solid day. I don't think he's a featured back, but he has the tools to be useful.

Montee Ball - As average as some feared. No standout qualities. He didn't bomb as bad as Taylor, but everything about him screams "backup."

Michael Ford - Perfect example of why you maybe shouldn't put too much stock in the numbers. He looks like a demon on paper. Solid height/weight/speed. Very good vert and elite broad jump for a 5'9" player. The numbers say he has vertical explosiveness, but what they don't tell you is that he has ostrich legs and no cutting ability. I'll still be surprised if he ends up becoming a quality pro.
