Could a McCoy / Brown backfield exceed some of the past premier 1-2 punches in the NFL much like these past duo's?2008http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/9631/year/2008/lendale-whitehttp://espn.go.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/11258/year/2008/chris-johnsonhttp://espn.go.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/11247/year/2008/jonathan-stewartthttp://espn.go.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/9613/year/2008/deangelo-williams2009 http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/11247/year/2009/jonathan-stewarthttp://espn.go.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/9613/year/2009/deangelo-williams2010 http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/11307/year/2010/jamaal-charleshttp://espn.go.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/2138/year/2010/thomas-joneshttp://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000138423/article/pat-shurmur-to-utilize-eagles-bryce-brown-in-offenseSo how will the Eagles' backfield look? Shurmur was quick to emphasize that second-year pro Bryce Brown will have a big role."Bryce established himself as a good player last year," Shurmur said. "He can score touchdowns, and that's a big deal, a guy who can get in the end zone. ..."I think it's important that you use more than one running back. It's a long season, and a guy can run out of gas quickly. If you have guys who are different, you can use them in different ways, and you try to play to their strengths. I think that's important."Kelly's offense at the University of Oregon was far more based around the running game than public perception indicates. And no matter how Kelly adapts to the pro game, it's safe to expect more plays from the 2013 Eagles than the average team.More plays equals more carries. It wouldn't be a surprise if LeSean McCoy and Brown got plenty of carries.
what else am i supposed to do when i get into work 7:30am and no one else is here?JAA, 10 consectutive posts in 25 minutes. Nice work. Good to have your input. Day off?Pete Carrol disagrees with youUnless you think that Foles just beats him out during camp. That's where I'm leaning until I see otherwise. This sounds like competition and I'm all for it.
And Vick will not make it through the season so Foles will have a chance to show what he can do at some point if he doesn't win the job outright. This is my thinking too. Didn't want Vick back, but on a short incentive laden deal thats so frinedly to the team they can actually cut him THIS year still? All for that. I like QB competitions as long as the coach is willing to make a decision a couple of weeks BEFORE the season starts and actually stick with it.

Not a big fan of Landry, he's physical but blows his coverage quite a bit.@EliotShorrParks: #Eagles RT @ProFootballTalk From PFT Live, @howardeskin thinks Jets S LaRon Landry will become an Eagle in free agency.
I agree with you but I think this team needs someone who runs around like a nut a hits people on every play. This Eagles defense can't tackle let alone make someone with the ball pay for the extra yards they are giving up. I think Landry is the perfect fit for what this team needs I would also like to add a CB who can actually make a tackle to go along with DRC.Not a big fan of Landry, he's physical but blows his coverage quite a bit.@EliotShorrParks: #Eagles RT @ProFootballTalk From PFT Live, @howardeskin thinks Jets S LaRon Landry will become an Eagle in free agency.
I think people are getting a bit carried away about Bryce Brown. The talent is there obviously but he's so raw. I didn't see any change in the way he carried the football through the end of the season, even after all the turnovers he still waves it around like a flag and doesn't get two hands around the ball in contact / traffic. After everybody saw his speed last season he won't take anyone by surprise again, defenders will play with a lot more discipline against him and he won't get to the corner anywhere near as much. That seems to be all he tries to do, he drove me nuts going 3 yards backwards trying to get outside and winding up with -4 yard plays. That happened half a dozen times or so and it's unforgivable. For him to make a decent contribution, he needs to learn to read and follow his blocks inside, and we haven't seen much of that from him yet. I don't believe straight line speed is hugely important for RBs, it only comes into play if a series of other things are done correctly first.Hopefully during OTAs and camp Duce hammers Bryce on how to carry the ball and makes him understand that it's not 50 yards or bust on every play. Also, Dion Lewis is good, don't forget about him.So how will the Eagles' backfield look? For Bryce and the fumbles, that's something they will beat into his brain all offseason. I don't think they had time to correct it during those couple weeks he played. That's just about constant repetition and drilling it into his brain the hard way like Coughlin did with Tiki. Dion Lewis has some skill and will probably get a shot at camp with Kelly here. If Reid came back, I feel like Lewis was going to be cut. Would like to see what Polk has too. There will probably be 6 backs going into training camp and maybe 4 come out.'Ash said:I think people are getting a bit carried away about Bryce Brown. The talent is there obviously but he's so raw. Because they ran packages.. Cousins didn't run those packages.. RG3 ran a traditional offense much of the time.. Wilson ran the spread and such around 20% of the time... Kelly brings a wide open spread all the time..... What is so hard to grasp about that?'Insein said:It's not that hard. See washington this year. Cousins ran the same offense when RG3 went down. The fact that Kelly hasn't shown a single play of his NFL offense. Everyone is inferring that the exact same system he ran at Oregon is exactly what he's going to run in the NFL. Which completely disregards the system he ran at New Hampshire with Ricky Santos as his QB who is about as fast as Nick Foles.Because they ran packages.. Cousins didn't run those packages.. In 2011 his QBs rushed for 413 yds and 3tds. They threw for 39 tds. Apparently it is hard for you to understand Chip Kelly. Maybe we should all wait to see what he does.Because they ran packages.. Truth.I can't listen sports talk for a while. I hear people saying he won't last more than 3 years in the NFL before he's coaching UCLA. The man has said several times he doesn't need to run his UO offense. He can and will tailor his system to match personnel. I know its a hard concept to grasp given the last 14 years, but jeez can we let the guy run his first practice or (God forbid) lose his first game before we run him out of town??In 2011 his QBs rushed for 413 yds and 3tds. not sure where they ranked but they looked horrendous to me, esp Asomugh. when each one of these guys came in I was thinking what a great addition we were getting. hard to believe that both guys sucked. If I had to pick one to keep, it would be DRC. hes younger and has more left in the tank. wont cry if they both leave thoughAccording to PFF where did Nnambdi and DRC rank last season?

Now that is interesting. This is a move I can get behind. This is the football mind we've been asking for in the Front Office.Interesting look at his career. He started in the NFL with the Eagles from 88-94.His dad was also a former president of the Eagles. Go figure.@RoobCSN: League sources: Tom Gamble is joining the Eagles as Vice President of Player Personnel.

I believe both were still ranked in the top 35 or 45 but somehow Nnamdi made it on to the list despite QB's having a rating of over 100 when throwing towards him. DRC was better according to the numbers, and he'd be the one I keep if I had to pick one. It would be a welcome change to have some physical corners(at least one) for once though. I'd pair DRC with a physical corner and then match them up accordingly to opponent's WR's.'Bigboy10182000 said:According to PFF where did Nnambdi and DRC rank last season?
Put me in the keep DRC camp as well based solely on age. He has skills and he's still young enough. Hopefully the coaches can get him to buy in to what they're selling. For Nnamdi, he's too old to take the risk. He'd have to significantly restructure for me to consider it.I believe both were still ranked in the top 35 or 45 but somehow Nnamdi made it on to the list despite QB's having a rating of over 100 when throwing towards him. Aww man I'll have to catch that when it's on again."Reggie White and Jerome Brown, A Football Life" on NFLN right now. This breaks me up.![]()
this was my assumption as well.Surprised there wasn't more chatter on Dixon.
To me it makes him the 3rd string. The guy has been in the league for 5 years and had trouble staying on a practice squad. He hasn't played in Kelly's Oregon offense since 2007. This looks simply like a guy brought in to help assimilate the other QBs on the terminology. If Dennis Dixon has any amount of playing time this year, it will definitely bode well for our top 5 pick status next year.
I would hold him up for nothing less than that 2nd rounder.
Bingo. Even though he was a 3rd round pick, he's shown enough potential where I wouldn't give him up for anything less than a 2nd round. Although, what if KC offers #1 overall and their 4th round pick for Foles and the #4 overall pick.I would hold him up for nothing less than that 2nd rounder.
I'd be for that because it secures Joeckel. I don't see that trade happening though. We'd have to give a 3rd in with that to get to #1.Bingo. If you can get a high 2nd, its a no brainer. 3rd is a little iffy. He was a 3rd rounder and has shown he can be at least a viable backup at $500k this year and no more than $780k through 2015. That in itself has value.Foles probably won't have more value then he does now.... There is a good chance he won't be the started this year and they will be looking for the QB of the future next year.... You can't keep him on the bench (assuming he isn't starter), draft a QB of the future next year, and then look to trade him as his value will be nothing.... Get what you can for him now and move him.. Focus on defense this year in the draft to transition to the 3-4 and next year get your QB........... You can get a 2nd or a 3rd for him, it's a no brainer IMHO....
Even if he "loses" the competition he's going to start 8-9 games for us this year. I wouldnt trade him unless I got a 1 back from someone there's no reason to give him away for what you MIGHT pick. You KNOW you have at worst a good back up QB...you may not even have a rosterable player with the pick you get in return. If we have to play Dixon we can expect to have CLowney next year.If you can get a high 2nd, its a no brainer. 3rd is a little iffy. If it's a high 2nd, I would hope he's rosterable. Howie brought in Gamble early enough to help with the combine and draft I would hope. My point with the draft pick is mainly that you're taking a risk. You're trading what you know (assuming he loses the battle) is a good back-up QB who will more then likely start a decent amount of the season for an unknown player AND you're going to have to pick a QB anyway that you HOPE is as servicable. It just doesn add up to me unless you're in a position to pick a player that can have equal to, or greater of an impact. If it's a high 2nd, I would hope he's rosterable. I'm in agreement that he's more valuable on the team than off, but I'd be ok with just the 2nd. That'd be 3 picks in the top 40.I would want the KC 2nd and 3rd. Foles is a luxury as of today and I see no reason to get rid of him just yet.
KC picks first though, so a 2nd rounder is pretty much like a very late 1st. No way we get that for him. I'd be happy with a 3rd, only because it's the first pick of the 3rd round.I would hold him up for nothing less than that 2nd rounder.
I wouldn't do it for that. He's worth more as a cost controlled backup for the next 3 years.KC picks first though, so a 2nd rounder is pretty much like a very late 1st. No way we get that for him. Maybe, but we drafted him mid 3rd round, if we can get a high 3rd for him, thats an improvement on a guy that hasn't OUTPLAYED his draft spot, and isn't going to start this year and doesn't really look like he's gonna be the long term solution and future. With a third round qb like that you hope he develops into that player, but like you said, he's likely a back up for 3 years. If you can get pick #65 for your back up qb then I think most nfl teams would do that.I wouldn't do it for that. But you see he has played and showed that he can be an adequate backup. He's already increased his value above a 3rd round pick because you have a known quantity now and not a complete mystery. QBs inherently have more value than other positions so the value of a backup QB that only makes an average of $750k for the next 3 years is worth more than the uncertainty you get in a 3rd round pick. That's why, I would need a high 2nd to justify it.Maybe, but we drafted him mid 3rd round, if we can get a high 3rd for him, thats an improvement on a guy that hasn't OUTPLAYED his draft spot, and isn't going to start this year and doesn't really look like he's gonna be the long term solution and future.
