FWIW, on my limited reading on Tottenham, many places seem to expect Chiriches to be in the starting XI. And as my esteemed colleague pointed out, they just signed Rose to a 5 yr deal and even found a couple spots that suggested he could crack their first team. Vertonghen, Davies, and Walker are locks, but I didn't see any mention of Kaboul starting.I am being honest, I don't see either Rose or Chiriches starting many league games this year. But, if I look at my team, I have 4 guys on my 5-man bench who may not play any league games this year, so what do I know....
Of course, certainly don't follow Spurs like you do.
The scuttlebutt on Rose is that they (supporters) think Pochettino sees something in him. Spurs were skewered last season for having no back-up LB - ironically for when Rose was out injured. Everyone identified LB as a position of need this summer - so Davies was brought in. Davies and Rose are polar opposites - Davies is more dependable defensively, but can get forward, Rose likes to bomb forward, but is less enthusiastic about defending. SO, it could come down to opposition as to who gets to play.
The idea is that having Rose on the team, is generally good - though lots of groans when they announced the new deal. Gives depth at LB (and ensures that Vertonghen is unlikely to have to play LB this year - hence his new deal, which should be signed soon). Pochettino gets a year to work with Rose, and with the new extension, he'll have as much or more value next summer. It also speaks well of Pochettino that Rose wants to stay and fight for time after Davies was brought in.
As for Vlad the Impaler - its hard to tell what is going on, no real solid ITK - several rumors of moving onto Serie A came out when he missed the US Tour, combined with several different reasons why he missed the tour. I like Vlad, and still hope he is starting besides Vertonghen in a couple of weeks - but Spurs are trying hard to bring in another CB, and they already have too many. They have tried to sell Dawson, but can't get rid of him - he won't leave. If that does not change, it may be Chiriches (or less likely Kaboul) out the door. Dier, the kid they just brought in, is the long-term answer for them at RCB, but probably backs up Kaboul (or other starting RCB) this season.

How come Kaboul only played in 13 games last year? It seems that Dawson or Naughton would be in line to start over the Impaler and that Vlad should have the edge over both at this point.
Either way, it is the 15th/16th rounds and the attempt was to lock up a potential starting spot on a solid defensive team. It's always fun when we can discuss these late guys like this

Kaboul is their best CB after Vertonghen, but he hasn't had a strong run of games since he came back from his latest injury. Unfortunately he may be one of those players that just can't overcome a bad string of injuries.

Kaboul had/has injury problems. When healthy, he is the "muscle" in the back line. Vald is more similar to Vertonghen - solid defensively, but more finesse that brawn. Both would be ahead of Naughton as CB. Naughton, if he stays (unlikely) would back up Walker at RB. Fryers gets that role, assuming Naughton leaves (and he wants to leave to get playing time). Kaboul did have an issue on the US tour - apparently got into a bit of an argument with Pochettino on the field about going forward in the Toronto game, and he was benched for the Chicago game. But nothing has come out of the team since then. The Celtic game tomorrow could start to answer some questions, but a number of key players did not travel, so its hard to tell where players will fit in the starting XI v. Dawson is not suited to play the high line, and build-up from the defense, that Pochettino wants to play. Spurs have a deal in place with Hull, and I think one other team, but Dawson will not leave - been with the club nearly 10 years, lots of loyalty, wants to fight for his position, is the current captain (likely to be either Vertonghen or Lloris this year) gets a Testimonial game if he stays with Spurs until January yada, yada, yada.

Just to update Spurs talk from above, that everyone was so riveted to, Chiriches did not make the trip to Helsinki - something not right with him, but none of the WC players made the trip either (probably the last ever start for Brad Friedel), Davies started at LB, but it looks like Spurs are playing mostly 2nd teamers, so not sure what that means for Davies. Dawson and Kaboul started, Dawson went off injured in the 1st half. 3-1 at half.

I posted this around the middle of last week. First off, the start of the 17th round window needs to be at a time when everybody (including Sebowski) is awake. Also, if we set it after European EOB, it's less likely that someone will benefit from some late signing coming across Twitter.
All 17th rounders will have to be posted before midnight of the same day.
ETA: all of this is contingent on Christo picking before then
