*2014-15 Hot Stove Thread: The Padres won it I guess (2 Viewers)

Any Dodgers fans? Whattaya give me for Hamels and Rollins?
The Dodgers won't deal their top prospects (Pederson, Seager, Urias) so that likely keeps them out of a Hamels deal. It seems like the Red Sox have lots of prospects and younger major leaguers to deal for Hamels BUT he would have to waive his no-trade to Boston which would like cost even more money than his current contract (extra year or signing bonus)

The Dodgers are supposedly dangling Dee Gordon, which doesn't make sense to me with Hanley gone. Some combination of Gordon, Guerrero and Uribe isn't a terrible defense. I don't think Gordon could be much worse than Ramirez was at SS. The Dodgers have a much better idea about Erisebel Arruebarrena's readiness than any of us do.

Phillies beat:

Zolecki: Source said Jimmy Rollins trade to Dodgers is close, but not finalized. Teams still talking.

@JonHeymanCBS: phillies get minor-league pitcher for bastardo, as the sale begins. #bucs

@MattGelb: Source confirms multiple reports: Phillies trade Antonio Bastardo to Pirates for Joely Rodriguez.

Boras, ever the scumbag

Though the Rays are pushing for a deal to explore sites for a new stadium around the Tampa Bay area, top baseball agent Scott Boras renewed his pitch for them to move instead to Montreal.

Asked about the state of the Rays. Boras praised departed manager Joe Maddon and executive VP Andrew Friedman, then said "the third thing about Tampa Bay is that everyone always wonders why they're not playing in Montreal."

Boras included himself in that group. "I've always felt that Montreal was a tremendous major-league city and I think it's a town that if you put a ballpark there and particulalry with the communications broadcasting rights and such that are there that it would be a tremendous succes and a very valued point for baseball,'' he said.

Boras made a similar suggestion about the Rays at the 2013 winter meetings and at the All-Star Game.

Gordon/Haren for Heaney/Hatcher/Hernandez/Barnes ... Apparently Haren has also threatened to retire if he isn't on the Angels or LAD? So I don't really get this trade for the Marlins. Hell, I wouldn't trade Heaney for Gordon straight up nevermind adding in some peripheral prospects.

That would be classic Marlins. "Well we tried to add salary thru trade but goshdarnit he retired."

@JeffPassan: Exec on Dodgers haul: "Easily the most lopsided of the offseason." Good RP in Hatcher, versatile Hernandez, solid prospects Heaney/Barnes.

(Wishful?) Rumors on Phils board that Heaney might be packaged for Hamels trade,
If Hamels goes to LAD and one of Seager or Joc isn't coming back, it will be ugly.

And what's this Phil's board you speak of?

Ah hell, Sherman backtracking

@FSNtylermason: RT @Joelsherman1: Going to rephrase on Ervin Santana: Hearing #Twins pushing to get deal with Santana.

Now we're cooking with gas.

I thought the MLB Network guys were overblowing the importance of Lester's signing in terms of get the wheels greased on other transactions, but apparently that was what everyone was waiting on.

Seems like a haul if true:

@Ken_Rosenthal: #RedSox have agreement in principle for #DBacks Miley, sources tell me and @jonmorosi. AZ will get Webster, De La Rosa and a minor leaguer.

At least Dave Cameron seems to like the deal for the Red Sox. One of the issues I think is that the Red Sox apparently viewed both as RPs and they were out of minor options.

I think it's a red chip for two white chips. Miley is a legitimate major league starter.

Yea, I'm not sure about the complaining on the Miley deal. He's not an ace, obviously, but the last three years his xfip of 3.75, 3.77, 3.50, with 200 IP.

That is pretty valuable.

Alot of reaction seems to be based on Red Sox fans viewing De La Rosa as the next Pedro or something but that's what you get when Remy and stuff compare them during games. I'm warming up to the deal after a kneejerk reaction as long as the 3rd prospect isn't anything big.
