2014 Emmy Awards - NBC ... Breaking Bad crushes! (1 Viewer)

I would just like to chime in and say that breaking bad is the most overrated show ever. I'm on season 3 right now and have no urge to keep going (fly episode).

Nice grand slam by Breaking Bad.

I binge watched all 5+ seasons of BB in a week but I have not finished watching TD S1 yet.

In the words of Curly Bill, well...bye.
Sorry.. My opinion of course. Just can't get past some things of the show. :jordanshrug:
Bummer.

I guess even the greatest show ever isn't gonna be loved by everyone. :D

People really watch these award shows?

And care who wins?
Nah they just broadcast them to a 0 rating.
I meant people in the FFA. My mistake.

Some of the best TV shows get ripped apart here on these boards. I was just surprised anyone here subjects themselves to the worst that television has to offer in these dumb award shows. Celebrities giving each other awards. Woo-hoo!

I've never sat through the Emmys (have the oscars a few times) but I've never liked a show as much as BB either.

It was an awful telecast until about 10:30 fwiw.

ok...I guess I can see that for Breaking Bad. And I am glad to see that Julia Louise Dreyfuss won. She's awesome in Veep.

big fan of most award shows.

people also watch American Idol and X Factor and Big Brother and Survivor. I can't watch 5 minutes of most "reality" tv. Bores me to tears.

Different strokes for different folks. I'm sure everything you watch is super awesome though.

It's true!

Does anybody think its's odd that Season 5 of Breaking Bad won the Best Drama Emmy twice?

Obviously, Season 5 of BB would've deserved 12 BD Emmy's if they could've monkeyed a way to be eligible, but the decision was made to cheap out on the actors and crew, right?

It seems like the network is getting it's cake and eating it too here (and of course, it's AMC). I'm not sure I think they should be able to do that. You want to cut costs with your crew, fine, but if you call it a single season, you're only eligible for 1 year of Emmy's.

Actually, I'm not sure either of the heavy favorites should've been eligible (well, BB in 2013 I guess). There's an advantage to firing all your bullets in 10 episodes, like an anthology or mini-series does. Some disadvantages too, but mostly advantages. I'm not sure anthologies should be eligible for Best Drama, competing with shows having to stretch their story out over anywhere from 30-200 episodes.

True Detective was even shorter than half a season of Breaking Bad.
I don't mean that it's really unfair competition (like TD might be), but I'm curious if the Academy would want to take a stand against this shady practice.

Nevermind, the Academy wants this too, I guess, to milk the BB freighttrain an extra year. Plus, I think it's only AMC that would consider this, and after Mad Men's gone, they are done anyway.

I stopped with a couple episodes left in season 3. I also didn't have the urge to keep going. Not a bad show but I don't get the hype and would put it a good level below game of thrones, true detective, orphan black etc... And I get more enjoyment out of comedies like veep, Silicon Valley, parks and rec as well

I haven't seen a mention anywhere, but I thought Julianna Margulies took a little dig at this during her Best Actress speech. Said something about her writers and then made sure to emphasize they do it over "TWENTY-TWO episodes".

I've wondered if they should split it up. It makes sense because they are really playing different games.

Though, if there's a chance that getting crushed in every award would motivate networks to make better drama, may as well leave it as is.

That article you read about Walking Dead being cancelled was a hoax. AMC not done yet :hifive:
In terms of winning awards.
Ah. Yea, zombines are a ratings killer, but not going to be winning any awards any time soon.
I expect AMC's little sister channel (Sundance) and future little sister channel (BBCA) to be more of a player for awards than AMC itself before too long.
