2015 NBA Thread: I felt a great disturbance in the trolls, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. (1 Viewer)

Idk about you guys, but I definitely saw Love miss at least 3 pretty uncontested layups right under the rim last night. Dude was not on his game.

I think it's time we face the fact that LeBron sucks.

Lebron does not suck..but his style of play does not make the team belter around him.  If you put James on GS they would not be as good as they are now due to his need to have the ball all the time.

I don`t know how many time last night James held the ball for 16-20 seconds and then drives and passes off and the Cav players were all standing around.

Amen brother!

:goodposting:

Teams are much worse off with LeBron on them.

I'm not 100% certain, but my best guess on this is zero times.

My mistake.  I'm sure Curry and Thompson will only shoot 17% for the rest of the series when they take wide open shots.
I'll try to make it as easy as I can for you.  See above in bold red, underlined, and italicized lettering.

I also did not change your quote which you are accustomed to doing.

Now I see what you did.  You've grabbed some stat from somewhere that said they shot 17% on wide open looks because they shot a warm 29% for the game (just decided to go look at their box score numbers).  So what was it, something like 4/23 on wide open looks and 4/4 on contested shots?

When you have Curry and Klay shoot as bad as they did and GS still run's away.....not a good sign for the Cav's. Poor defense IMO last night and Love is super soft in the paint. Cleveland's bench did nothing. Golden State's depth shined and that will be the major X factor of this series. Their depth is superior. Livingston got whatever he wanted when he would come in and hit that short jumper. His elevation last night was fantastic. He had a great game.

Lebron and his crew no question must steal game 2 to make this a series. Going down 2-0 will not bode well. They are not the Warriors who showed they can storm back from a 3-1 deficit.

Idk what it was last night, but as someone last night pointed out, did Cleveland even have a gameplan on offense? I feel like they tried a few different things early last night, then after nothing worked, 2nd half they just reverted to give Bron the ball and pray he can win it for us.

if i've learned anything in my 30 odd years of watching the NBA it's that you can definitely, absolutely, draw definitive conclusions bout a playoff series from one game

Most of this is true. The only things I would add are that he yells at and blames his teammates, gets his coaches fired, holds self-centered press conferences, and all-around acts like a little #####. Other than that he is a great player.

Random thoughts about the game:

-Livingston was unreal last night, won the game for the Warriors.  He's always been good at getting his own shot, but doesn't usually shoot 80%.  It won't happen again, but the damage is done.  Honestly, if I'm Lue, I'd not change the plan with him and just count it as a fluke.  If it happens again, then I'd get serious about an adjustment.

-The Cavs defense did what they wanted to do; stop Curry & Thompson.  It was their offense that was the suck.  With Kyrie & Love they are sacrificing defense for offense.  They can't play those guys and only score 89 points.  Those two shot a combined 36%.  They get that up to 45% and they can win that game.  Again, I don't think they need a lot of defensive changes here.

-Love is so odd to me.  How a guy can maneuver so well on the boards and be such a good shooter but look so lost on the low block?  He's a great passer and has a nice shot, he shouldn't look that bad with his back to the basket.

-Tristen Thompson looked like the Cavs best player.  I know he isn't asked to do much on offense, but he got some really tough rebounds and finished well.  He was only 5-11, but I think he rebounded half of his misses.  IMO, he was the main reason the Cavs were even in it in the 3rd quarter.

-LeBron looked off last night.  I don't know what his deal is and haven't watched him much this year, but he wasn't dominate.  He looked more like Draymond Green playing out there than the LeBron I've seen over the years.  The Cavs need him to be LeBron of old because role-player LeBron isn't going to cut it.  I'm sure a lot of it is Golden State's defense, but still, he's too talented not to figure something out.

-Kyrie needs to play less, like 25-30 minutes total.  He can be a great scorer at times, but gives up too much on defense.  There were times he looked like a high school kid out there on D.  Once Golden State made their offense into "get it to whoever Kyrie is guarding", the game was blown open.  I have a feeling that won't stop.

This is EXACTLY what people said about Game 1 of the WCF when OKC won with Durant and Westbrook shooting a combined 17-51.  Yeah, Thompson and Curry will almost certainly shoot much better as the series goes on.  But so will Irving.  And Livingston's not gonna go 8 for 10 every game.

Golden State will probably win the series because they're simply the better team, but this logic where you isolate one or two players, look at their stats, and project the rest of the series accordingly based on the assumption that they'll correct to their norms but nothing else will is silly.

You know he is 3rd all time in playoff assists, right? Behind only John Stockton and Magic Johnson?

could probably count on 1 hand the number of NBA players that are good in the post

Technically, I think they did because Lebron mentioned having a better gameplan for Game 2.  Seemed like part of it was create mismatches to get Lebron and Love posting up.  Worked quite a bit, but when the double teams came, they fell apart, especially Love.  Ball wasn't moving like it has been of late, partly due to GS defense and partly due to Cavs looking sloppy and sluggish.  JR was barely touching the ball and he's usually the recipient of good look 3's.  Frye barely played, still not sure on that one.  Time to regroup with the extra days off.

I still don't see where I wrote "all" anywhere even with your bold red, underlined, and italicized lettering.  Please try again.

OK, I'm a LeBron detractor, but this doesn't make any sense to me.  When the Cavs were rolling through the playoffs, and Love and Irving were scoring in bunches, the accolades to LeBron were that he was better as a facilitator and now he has the weapons to play off of him, he's an amazing passer, defenses commit to stopping him and he makes great decisions with the ball, always the "right" decision even if it is a lesser player.

Now that they lose, he doesn't make the players around him better?

I didn't see last night's game until the 4th quarter, so I can't speak about game 1 specifically.

lol some stat from somewhere.  At least you verified to me that you have never opened up NBA.com.

Please respond to my next post above.

Most people that come in here that read your 17% post will think they shot 17% for the game.  Break it down.  I want to see how bad the Cavs were at defending the Splash Bros.

Golden States depth was on full display last night. Their bench scorched the Cav's. Now imagine Curry and Klay reverting to the mean. The bench carried them last night.

45-10 was the final in bench vs bench.

Cav's can't win a single game if that trend continues. Even if Irving reverts to the mean (and he probably will) the bench depth of GS is a huge factor in this series.

Shumpert, Dellavedova and Jefferson a combined minus 44.....wow. Can't win with that no matter what your big three do.

I don't agree with that.  There were definitely several possessions where they looked sort of Harden/Rockets-esque.  But I assume that is what they thought the best way to win was (or at least to start with).  Similar to last year when Lebron had to shoulder it all.  Space and 3s is probably the best way, though Irving definitely can get to the rim more.

Lebron is the best player in the game.....no doubt in my mind about that. Curry is the MVP....Lebron is still the best all around player on the planet. It does not mean he will win another title though. This is Love's and Iriving's first go around in The Finals. Growing pains are sure to be on display.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you here.

He had 23, 12 and 9 on 50.5% true shooting.  He had the highest game score of any player on the floor for either team. His defensive effort was a little subpar, but otherwise is someone asked me what a typical LeBron James effort looked like I'd picture something a lot like last night's game.

And so begins the dismantling of Atlanta.

Horford coming to Orlando... To watch Aaron Gordon dominate.
Atlanta was getting swept by Cle no matter what but Horford was horrible in that series.  I won't be said to see him leave - would prefer to get something out of it but oh well.

As for Teague - he's a conundrum - not quite bad enough to be happy he's leaving but not quite good enough to be overly concerned.  I think my problem with it is I'm still not 100% sold on Schroeder.

Me- it's silly to assume that two players will revert to their statistical norms but nobody else will.

You- imagine what's gonna happen when those two players revert to their statistical norms but nobody else does except maybe Kyrie Irving?

Livingston was awesome last night.  And so was Barbosa. But those guys were either terrible or invisible for most of the OKC series.  Why would you expect them to maintain their performance levels over one game rather than reverting to something closer to the seven game sample size that immediately preceded it? It's not like OKC has some incredible bench with impressive defenders that you'd expect to nullify those guys in a way Cleveland can't.  If anything the opposite would seem to be true.

Again, I think GSW wins the series going away, so I agree with you there.  But the idea that last night's game was instructive because "hey look what happens if Steph and Klay start shooting like themselves again!" is just really silly to me.

OKC presented match up problems because of how good they are grabbing offensive rebounds.  Durant and Westbrook could shoot like crap, but that deficiency in scoring could be offset by grabbing a ton of OREB.  Completely different situation than what Cleveland can put on the floor.

Point guard is so deep right now that to be remotely competitive you have to have a decent guy on both ends of the floor.  Teague can do that.  He's not near the top guys but he's a lot better than many starters around the league and might bring some veteran leadership they need.

Not so much about if Steph and Klay do what they normally do. What I saw was GS bench destroy Cleveland's. They match up well vs the Cav's bench...so much so that if they don't do a better job going forward....I don't care what Love and Irving do, they can't beat GS if they allow those bench players to get whatever they want. Because it looked very very easy for them last night. Livingston was gliding into the key and getting that short jumper at will. The Cav's defense was the absolute suck last night. So many wide open, uncontested looks, and way too much ISO on the offensive end for the Cav's.

If they had done what they normally do they would have won by 25-30 points. So this series has the potential to get really ugly if the Cav's do not make some serious defensive adjustments. This GS team is far better than last years squad. Lebron and a bunch of JAG's took them to the brink.....yet this season with his team healthy they did not look nearly as good. It's only one game. I don't think this will be the norm. But if the Cav's play like this again in game 2...even with Irving being Irving they will still be blown off the floor.

All things being equal....all-stars being who they are....GS's depth is clearly going to be the difference to me.

Let's call this what it is a missed opportunity. When you hold Klay and Curry to 20 points with that kind of shooting you need to win the game. The fact that Livingston and the rest of the bench are unlikely to have that kind of performance again is irrelevant, if the Cavs defense continues to be that bad the players for the Warriors are going to take turns on who leads them in scoring for the next 3 games.

I never felt like this was a close game, even when the Cavs took the lead a couple of times briefly in the 3rd. I have a hard time believing anyone that watched that game thought the Cavs had a chance anytime once 1st quarter ended. The Cavs looked and played that game like it was a January game after a long layoff.

This is a pivotal series for James to win.  James will be 32 next season and is not a spring chicken anymore.  How many more chances will he get?

It's a small sample size of course but it really does look like Love is a pedestrian contributer on a contender. Compare that to how great of a stretch 4 Chris bosh is/was and its yet another indicator to me that bosh is underrated.

He was 7/17 and had 17/11.  He seems to be getting a lot more heat in here than say, Kyrie Irving.  He also shot just 1 free throw somehow.

His numbers are fine. But the utter lack of defense or simply "taking up space" in the paint is staggering for a guy that size.
