2015 New York Giants - WK10 Cruz announces season ending calf surgery (1 Viewer)

Good showing by them. I wonder if the oline can keep it up against better fronts. The announcers kept saying Washington's Dline was depleted.

I don't think we saw much of Rashad Jennings after he drop that sure TD. Do you guys think that's just Coughlin being a hardass, or did he tweak something, or were they just letting him rest since the outcome was sure? If it's Coughlin being a hardass, how long does that usually last?

I'm thinking it was to rest him since the game was locked up. He had a lot of carries last week and a good workload this time on a short week.

Wouldn't worry about him getting in the doghouse. No other RB on the team is the complete package that Jennings is.

I agree. Williams did look good as he always has when given the opportunity though. I wouldn't be surprised they mix him in more going forward, but no doubt that Jennings will be a RB1 the rest of the year. Williams will be a change of pace guy.

The game was out of hand and Jennings has had a big workload this season and was coming off a short week. He did the right thing by taking him out. If you don't own Jennings and for some reason the Jennings owner is worried about the "benching" and Andre Williams having better numbers, this would be a good time to make some offers.

You can give much of the credit for last night's win to the offensive and defensive lines. The O-line kept pressure off of Eli most of the night and when Eli has time, he suddenly looks elite. The D-line didn't get the sacks, but they were in the QB's face all night. They did that without alot of blitzing too. Yes, Fitz threw up a bunch of ducks, but he did that partly due to a defensive lineman being in his face.

I have to admit. The O line is coming together nicely. I don't know if they have finally figured it out or if the slow start can be having to play against a very good D line in Detroit and following that up with Arizona in week 2.

The best part of this offense so far for me has been the balance between run and pass. The last 2 weeks especially as Jennings is gaining positive yardage on 1st and 2nd downs and keeping the Giants out of 3rd and long.

The whole offense is starting to look cohesive and even when the Giants were clicking in Gillbride's system there was far more what the heck was that moments than we will see with McAdoo. I am encouraged.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Lions and impending free agent DT Ndamukong Suh are heading for a split.
Suh is essentially in the final year of his rookie contract as 2015 is a voidable year. PFF's No. 2 NT/DT in 2013 and No. 4 in 2012 is prepared to move on and is going to break the bank on the open market. Schefter says Suh would like to play for the Giants or Jets to help build his brand in New York, although the Cowboys and Bears are also expected to have interest.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While Suh would make a huge impact I can't imagine the Giants being able to pay him anything close to what he'd want or even beat what the Jets might be willing to pay. Sounds like Suh wants to come to the NY area to mirror what Strahan has done after football. Or could just be a ploy to get Dallas or other suitors to aggressively pursue Suh.

'He walks around with a little more swagger': Giants teammate says cornerback's strong season is down to him finally losing his virginity

New York Giants' cornerback Prince Amukamara is enjoying his best season yet - and defensive back Antrel Rolle thinks he knows why. Rolle told NJ.com that it's no coincidence that Amukamara, a devout Catholic who previously said he would abstain from sex until marriage, is playing so well just months after getting hitched.

'He's married, so he's (enjoying some things that he wasn't experiencing before he's married),' Rolle said. 'For a man, that could definitely help him out... He walks around with a little more swagger, which is something that we need, which is something that we love.'

Nice win for the Giants today and a pretty good debut for the rookie Beckham Jr.

Hoping that Jennings injury isn't too bad

PFF ranks Giants O-Line 3rd best in the NFL and Beatty is their #1 LT thus far in the season:

3. New York Giants (28th)
PB: 2nd, RB: 4th, PEN: 3rd

Stud: There was a feeling that Will Beatty may have phoned it in after getting his big pay deal. Yeah well that feeling has been vanquished with him our top-ranked left tackle this year. A combination of efficiency in pass protection and ultra activity in the run game.

Dud: There isn’t one. The only person you look at feeling sorry for is Geoff Schwartz who may struggle to get into the team given how it’s performed.

Summary: They looked something of a mess in preseason, but was this just the Giants rope-a-doping us? They’ve been superb and are getting better week on week. The tackles are the strength, but the team must be extremely pleased with the development of Weston Richburg these past three games.

Beatty’s +10.1 grade through just four games puts him on pace for the second-highest season grade we’ve ever given a tackle. While he likely won’t keep that up, he’s making a case that the Giants have not one Comeback Player of the Year candidate on their offense, but two.

New York Giants – Performances of Note

Jason Pierre-Paul, DE: +8.1

Breakdown: It feels like nobody ever talks about JPP anymore. Perhaps it’s that sophomore season where his inflated sack numbers created unrealistic expectations. Perhaps it’s the Giants struggles since their Super Bowl win. In any case he remains one of the most well rounded defensive linemen in the league and is capable of games like this where he embarrassing a tackle big things are expected out of him.

Signature Play: With 8.41 to go in the game and a crucial third down play happening, Pierre-Paul breezes past the left tackle to knock Matt Ryan off balance. Forcing him to stumble and throw the ball away, unable to pick up the first down.

Odell Beckham Jr, WR: +1.6

Breakdown: As debuts go, this was pretty great. On the surface of it four receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown don’t jump off the page at you, but it was his ownership of Robert Alford that drew four penalties and kick started the Giants recovery. There’s more tape on him now so expect future opponents about to be a little more ready for what he can do.

Signature Stat: Played 38 snaps, running 24 routes of which he was targeted five times (second most on the team.).

Johnathan Hankins, DT: +6.0

Breakdown: Bye-bye Linval Joseph, hello Johnathan Hankins. Last years second-round pick impressed in flashes as a rookie, but even we’re a little surprised by the degree of his positive impact this year. Lining up against Harland Gunn, Hankins decided today was a day to grab some attention as a pass rusher, regularly walking Gunn backwards or knocking him to the side in his efforts to bring down Matt Ryan.

Signature Play: It has to be the sack that effectively ended the game with 4.40 left. 4th-and-1 with the Falcons desperate for a conversion, he breezed past Gunn without giving the quarterback a chance to even throw the ball up for grabs somewhere. Game over.

PFF Game Ball

It could have been Hankins. It could have collectively gone to a strong offensive line display that I feel guilty I haven’t given any ink to. But performances like Jason Pierre-Paul’s do not come along often in a season, and as such you have to reward them.

Hankins is really impressing me. He might develop into one of the best DTs in the league this year. Stops the run as well as Joseph did and has the ability to pass rush that Linval didn't have.

I have to admit, I doubted that the O line would ever amount to anything this year. They are playing so good and it appears they may actually be a strength on this team. I hope that trend continues!

Who filled in for the Cruz position after he went down? I was too heated to even notice. I'm guessing it was Preston Parker?

I'd love to see Corey Washington get a chance to see what he can do. I guess that would require OBJ to move to the slot though.

I read someplace that Beckham and Randle will be the starters in 2 WR sets

Parker will be the slot guy in 3 WR sets

Just a bad overall performance. How the hell did they only allow 1 sack to JJ Watt and co., then turn around and do this?

Frustrating on the Cruz injury as well cause I didn't think there was a hold on LD's TD grab. Maybe the knee was always gonna give eventually but that play shouldn't have happened. Just my 2 cents.

Also really dont like Williams style of running.

Really sad with Cruz. From what I am reading, it's likely that he will never be the same player. His game is speed and quicks and that is what may never quite come back. At least he got his - a ring and some dollars. Hope he can (once again) beat the odds.

Getting the urge to start the NYG 2015 Offseason thread already.

Giants probably will want to take a WR early with Cruz's injury and he'll be close to 29 at the start of next season. With WRs taking 3 years generally for their breakout year, it makes sense to draft that guy that can be a #2 if Randle plateaus or can't be re-signed when his rookie contract runs out.

They also need more OL line help and the team could move on from Beatty since his contract is cut friendly. Then there's Rolle and JPP that could go too.

It looks to me that it will be another offseason where they try to improve the LBs through FA.

I really hope they get a different DC. Sure Fewell has dealt with his secondary getting wiped out almost every season. But he hasn't developed a young LB into a decent starter yet and they can't pass rush with really good talent on the dLine.

I agree netnalp. As I was watching the game, i was saying to my buddy, I guess it's time to start looking forward to the draft. They need line help in both sides of the ball big time. Fewell is most likely out, Coughlin might be out, which means McAdoo will follow and who knows about Reese. This might be an over reaction coming the day after a game, but there wasn't much positive to take away from yesterday.

The only good news is that OBJ is a stud.

Pretty much what I expected this season, though I was more worried about the offense than the defense. Neither side of the ball has looked stellar, but the poor tackling and guys getting caught out of position are really glaring. Against a QB like Luck, those things really get exposed. They looked as bad last night as they did against Philly.

Jacquian Williams has to be one of the worst tackling LB's I have ever seen....he gets to the ball carrier fast but he seems to miss every time

The team as a whole looked terrible it looked like they used the bye week to rest and relax down in the Virgin Islands instead of prepare for football games

Prince lost for the season with a torn bicep.

They probably should shut down DRC so he can heal up for next season.

I would let Jennings take his time getting back. No use putting him through more wear and tear when this season is done. Get the rookie the game experience in prep for next season.

I'm in the rooting for a great draft pick mode now.

#9 New York Giants: Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia
Georgia_logo.gif

The Giants spent a first-round pick on a running back a few years ago, but that didn't pan out because David Wilson's career was ruined by injuries. They could try again with the more-talented Todd Gurley, who would provide a massive upgrade in the backfield over journeyman Rashad Jennings and the plodding Andre Williams.

For those who don't believe three or four running backs will be chosen in the first round next spring, this class has stud players at the position, so it's going to happen. Besides, Trent Richardson was chosen No. 3 overall a couple of years ago. If Richardson can go third, the more-talented Gurley can be chosen in the top 10.

I want no part of a RB in the 1st. I loved the OBJ pick as I was a big fan of his, but Zack Martin would be nice to help that line out. I would be shocked if they didn't address the line on either side of the ball.

Giant should take at least 2 linemen with the 1st 3 picks. They desperately need tackles left & right ...Pugh is living up to his name at RT and Beatty should beat it.

New York Giants: Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
Alabama_logo.gif

This may seem like a strange pick, given that the Giants just spent the 12th-overall selection on Odell Beckham, but a couple of things: First, Amari Cooper is the best player available, by far, as he is on the same level as A.J. Green and Julio Jones. Second, Cooper, Beckham and Victor Cruz would all be able to play together, as Cruz could man the slot, with Cooper and Beckham on the outside. That would be a ridiculous receiving corps, and I doubt that Eli Manning would complain about this choice.

Pick change; previously Todd Gurley, RB

Definitely not a need, but I don't care, I would absolutely love this pick. Guys like this don't come along very often.

Coughlin and Fewell had a heated conversation after the gamecvicszasz : 2:59 pm
My guy on the inside says TC was incensed with Fewell after the game. Tom was "out of character" as far as how he typically acts with his staff.

Fewell had an odd smirk on his face the entire game ... he was pissing me off.

It was the same "I cant believe how much I suck" smile that Geno Smith has whenever he throws an interception.

I'm tired of Fewell's defense too. Seems like a contain, keep the score close type defense. I want a defense that attacks, can take over a game and win it if the offense is crapping the bed that day.

Bad loss yesterday but looking on the bright side it helps improve the draft pick (I think)

I think help on either line would be a top priority

At this point, it's all about the future. Can't say I was upset that we choked the game away.

I do believe it's legit to discuss Coughlin and Reese at this point. Three years no playoffs and going in the wrong direction completely.

Giants haven't done very well with their draft picks since Reese's first season as GM and I believe Ernie Accorsi was working in a consulting role for them that season. Reese is really bad
