I've attempted to be extremely objective regarding these two players. During the season I was rooting for the Bucs to "suck for the duck," and I even selected Marcus Mariota in our first Shark Pool mock, but as the process unfolded Jameis became the clear cut best QB in this draft in my mind. He outplayed Marcus in the Rose Bowl despite what the box score and scoreboard said. Then watching Marcus in the Championship Game made it even more clear that he was going to need a lot of work to become an NFL QB. Jameis clearly already knows how to rally a team and bring them back when they're behind.

Jameis then separated himself even more at the combine by putting on a display with his arm and his personality. His tape in his Heisman trophy season working with WRs who were on the same page with him is fantastic.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have needed a QB with some swagger and a win at all costs mentality since the inception of their franchise. They finally get one.

No, it only matters who is taken at that spot.

We have no way of knowing who is going to trade up for that spot. We can still play out the scenario of NOT trading up for all the teams that COULD trade up.

We can play through what Cleveland will do with the 19 & 19 if they don't trade up while still hypothesizing that they could be one of the teams that do trade up fro Mariotta.

Agree with this, feel the drop from Williams to other D-linemen is much further than WR drop. A case can be made that Williams is the best player in this draft.

left end is now playing for the Broncos. I agree that Williams definitely helps the run defense, though I'm not as convinced he can bring the outside pass rush. As for the last sentence, I'd rather have stud at a defined position than a versatile player who can fill holes. At least as far as I'm valueing my top 5 pick. But to each his own. I have no doubt the Raiders highly covet Williams, who I consider a good player and instant impact, but is a bit of a luxury for what the team needs are. Main point of contention is that he's being sold in the press as a pass rusher based off his incredible measurements and combine stats, and there are some notable names in the industry that beg to differ. Remember Jadeveon Clowney? Not saying Williams is that guy, but every year there is somebody that gets hyped beyond reasonable expectations. I see Williams as a good 2 down DL with room for upside with good coaching. I won't be mad at the pick though. He's the "safest" pick in the draft defensively. I will be disappointed we didn't add a major playmaker for Carr in Amari Cooper.

As for the last sentence, I'd rather have stud at a defined position than a versatile player who can fill holes. At least as far as I'm valueing my top 5 pick. But to each his own. I have no doubt the Raiders highly covet Williams, who I consider a good player and instant impact, but is a bit of a luxury for what the team needs are. Main point of contention is that he's being sold in the press as a pass rusher based off his incredible measurements and combine stats, and there are some notable names in the industry that beg to differ. Remember Jadeveon Clowney? Not saying Williams is that guy, but every year there is somebody that gets hyped beyond reasonable expectations. I see Williams as a good 2 down DL with room for upside with good coaching. I won't be mad at the pick though. He's the "safest" pick in the draft defensively. I will be disappointed we didn't add a major playmaker for Carr in Amari Cooper.

Don't take issue with your logic in general, but don't feel the Clowney pick comparison is fair. Injuries derailed his first year, he could have been all universe or a bust as a healthy player, but to judge him as a poor pick/bust because he ended up hurt isn't fair. If Andrew Luck had been struck by a bus a few games into his career, would you blame the Colts for falsely believing the hype? Clowney deserves and incomplete grade for his rookie year.

The top 3 are the top 3 for sure, but there will be a lot of WRs they could consider at the top 2nd or even trade back into the late 1st for.

Heck, forget the draft. WRs available in free agency every year. UDFA come out of nowhere. D-line tougher to come by.

Position scarcity was the only factor. if Tenn or Jax takes Williams, I would run a Rashad Perriman-type-40 yard dash to get the Cooper pick in.

I think stronger lines make the players behind them better. Our young LBs and corners will look better behind Williams.
