Nene's problem is health, not defense. He's been a plus defender his entire career, when healthy.
Can confirm.  He's always been a very good team defender, acts like kind of a captain on the floor calling out screens and assignments. And does better than you'd expect for a man his size on stretch fours and switches on the perimeter.  I'm sure that will continue deteriorating with age, but he's a good cheap pickup on that team for his toughness and on court leadership.

Top NBA Free Agents next year:

Steph Curry

Russell Westbrook

Blake Griffin (opt out)

Chris Paul (opt out)

Gordon Hayward (opt out)

Paul Millsap (opt out)

Kyle Lowry (opt out)

Danilo Gallinari (opt out)

Jeff Teague

Serge Ibaka

D. Rose (blech)

Andre Iguodala

Jrue Holiday

Andrew Bogut

Greg Monroe (opt out)

George Hill

Taj Gibson

JJ Redick

Gobert (RFA)

Anteater (RFA)

Schroeder (RFA)

Oladipo (RFA)

Noel (RFA)

Steven Adams (RFA)

McCollum (RFA)

Tons of other RFAs too; you assume most will re-up, but who knows what kind of poison pills can be created as the cap keeps growing.  Like this year, I'd expect everyone that can opt out to do so.

I think Nene has had a great, underrated career, but I fear he's done or close to it.

Nene may start, but I think they brought him in to help Capella develop.  Could easily see CC getting the most minutes.

Didn't Durant sign a 1+1?

Maybe he won't like that new, dumb arena in SF.
Yeah who knows.  A few other very unlikely possibilities: he won't like being the NBA's bad guys after a lifetime of being almost universally adored, he hates Lacob, he won't like something about the on court or locker room chemistry once KD is in the fold.

Need a player to come along who is all-world and just dgaf.  Troll the hell out of ownership every year.  Win a title in GS, opt out.  Go meet with 3 teams.  Sign 1+1 with Cavs, win a title, opt out.  Sign 1+1 with Twolves, win a title, opt out. Rinse, repeat in a different city every year.

James hasn't agreed to a contract. Things have been very surprising on that front. Everybody assumes that it's a 1+1 from Cleveland but it definitely hasn't been reported.
Right, not done yet, but that's what is expected.  There's always some juggling to the order of the signings to get under the cap.  JR probably needs to go first (or WADE!).

If he goes back to Miami, I suspect it will be because they offer him something like 3/66. If that happens, Miami is going to be absolutely awful in that 3rd year. They'll be capped out with a 37 year old Wade, 35 year old Bosh, 33 year old Dragic, and 30 year old Whiteside. Unless Winslow develops to a top 10 player, that team is winning 25 games.
:goodposting:

That Dragic deal could wind up being very very good for the Suns.

And everytime Bosh attempts one of these comebacks, the Heat's cap relief (medical) gets pushed back 1 year the last game he plays.

The Bulls remain "significantly involved" in a Dwyane Wade pursuit, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.
The Bulls had to cancel their meeting with Wade due to flight issues, but Woj adds that had "no bearing" on their status. Additionally, C.F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel adds the Bucks are not expected to get Wade. He was expected to make his decision tonight, but the Bulls being serious suggests we might not hear a decision until tomorrow.

:lmao:  Find it hard to believe, but....

The Heat "apparently might not be able to move" Josh McRoberts to clear cap space for Dwyane Wade unless a draft pick or Justise Winslow is included, according to Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel.
Say what? The Heat might be working the leverage back on their side here, but it's certainly interesting. For Wade to get the money he wants, the Heat will have to get McRoberts off their books. He met with the Bucks, Nuggets and Heat today while the Bulls are in contention. This is getting interesting.

One year, $6mm left. Sure guys. :lmao:

The Bulls have been calling teams in an effort to unload contracts and clear cap space for Dwyane Wade, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
Mike Dunleavy and Jose Calderon are likely suspects to be unloaded, according to Woj. The Heat are also reportedly hoping to deal Josh McRoberts, but they'd need to sweeten the deal with draft picks or young talent, and the Nuggets are currently the only team with enough cap space to meet Wade's expected salary demands. Miami has long been seen as the inevitable victor in the D-Wade sweepstakes, but things are getting very interesting.

Christian Laettner is seventeen million dollars in the hole. His business acumen is on par with our dearly departed Eminence.

Everything Laettner touched turned to (feces). He was really, really bad at business.

Who needs 3-pointers, right?  It should be an exciting season for the Bulls although it's easy to see where they'll have problems.
