2016-17 NBA Thread: Finals are over, please go away (1 Viewer)

LeBron and Russ could take it the hole on anyone.  Avery can hit an open jumper and is a lockdown perimeter defender.  Simmons is the big question mark, no doubt he'd be left open but he can run the floor with the best wings and just may surprise people with his D, he certainly has the ability to be very good defensively and I think you need upside and athleticism to beat this type of team.
You need shooting and defense, neither of which Simmons has. Rarely are rookies good defenders and never are rookies good defenders after not being stand out defenders in their single college season. The Warriors would say Simmons's man to the key and let him double Westbrook and Lebron as they drive. I'm not sure you could pick a worse fit next to Lebron and Westbrook in the top 200 players in the NBA.

I've put together a couple teams but I don't think they would come close. I'd need $20 to make a team that could put up a fight.
That's kind of the point. If you were pricing the Warriors, Curry would be 7, Durant would be between 5 and 7, Green would be 5, Thompson would be 4, Iggy would be 1-2. Even last year's version would be 18 or 19 total. It's an impossible exercise, IMO.

This would be like the NWO (GSW + KD) forming to take on HHH (Lebron) and now he's calling in the 123 Kid (Wade) to help him ringside in case they bring chairs (draymond).

I don't think I can do any better than Chris Ryan's lineup of Russ/Booker/Bradley/Lebron/Adams. God, what a series that would be.

i wish it was starwars land and you could clone a dude becauase lets face it aint no one beatin five anteaternintendos brohans take that to the bank

Using them to get more money from Miami...
Is there more money to get without dumping Dragic? They are at 65 million with just Bosh, Dragic, Winslow, and Whiteside. If they renounce everybody else and trade McBob, they still can't match Denver's deal. I imagine they could get to the 23 or 24 million range but then their team would have no bench and would struggle to make the playoffs. From a pure basketball standpoint, it probably better for both the Heat and Wade if he goes somewhere else for that kind of money.

No knock to the Nuggets but I just don't see why Wade would go there at this point in his career...they appear to be heading in the right direction but they are a non-playoff team and as far as I know he has no connection to the area...my guess is he'd like to squeeze every dollar out of the Heat and if that doesn't happen he would go to a team that could compete for a title...that being said maybe the money is what is most important to him and he sees this as his last big payday...

Love him and everything he has done here, greatest Heat player of all time, no question, future job front office, but if we are at $25M a season to keep him, I'm OK with him playing the next few years elsewhere then.

Wade is frustrated because he is going to be no factor in the NBA his last few seasons. Miami can still be a top 4 seed and if things go right and they find a few more scrap heap diamonds then maybe they can sneak into an NBA Finals but they are nothing like the GS Warriors or a handful of other teams they are not nearly as good as, namely Cleveland.

I wouldn't go to Denver if I were him, but I don't think Miami is the place to win games either, especially if Bosh is out. If Wade resigns I think they are probably good for 40 wins with a lower floor and not much higher ceiling. I think they will have a little of the Ewing Theory in effect if Wade leaves because it opens up Dragic, who is probably the better player in 2016, to do his thing. If Wade has any intention of winning games in 2016-17 he should look to take $10mil somewhere. If he is looking for money, Denver looks to be the place to go. If he wants to look like a great dude and still cash a nice check, go back to Miami for 20 a year, but nobody should be expecting that team to approach 50 wins until Wade and Bosh are gone.

So how did he just win? Kyrie is a good shooter, but a better finisher at the basket. You seriously think the Cavs have a better chance with J.R./Shumpert over Wade?
Yes. When Wade was 4 years younger, the best Heat line-up was Lebron and a bunch of shooters. Wade played over 70 games last year, but he averaged less than 60 the previous 4. His defense isn't what it was. The main benefit for Lebron would be that Wade could play some of his minutes, giving Lebron some rest. PLUS, Wade wants to earn back some of the dollars he sacrificed the previous 6 years.

The Nuggets are meeting with Wade tomorrow in New York. If that meeting actually goes down and Wade isn't signed with the Heat by then, I dont think it's strictly posturing and he may actually end up in Denver.

Anthony Davis (5)

Kawhi Leonard (5)

Giannis Antetokounmpo (3)

Avery Bradley (1)

Jae Crowder (1)

I like this team to have a shot against the Dubs Super Death Lineup. The Thunder showed length can bother the Dubs and this team has it in spades. Defensively this is a top notch team featuring Bradley at the point of attack on Curry, Kawhi guarding Durant, and I'd stick Giannis on Green. However, it doesn't really matter as everyone else can switch and has the length or more length to contend with the death line up.

Offensively, is where this team will not match up, but I like it's chances predicated on crashing the offensive glass. Giannis and Bradley share PG duties, Davis is the main man for the PnR actions, and you have Leonard and Crowder on the wings. Leonard is the best 3 point shooter on the team and the rest are serviceable.

My other idea is to sub Kyle Korver in for Crowder for better offense, but you sacrifice on defense. I do also like Rodney Hood/Bazemore/KCP as possible options over Crowder.

Agreed Good question (besides the teeny tiny font).

Also would your fellow employees consider you gutless when you decided to change jobs and move on to a better situation.

Maybe it's a new "feature".

Wade has to go back to Miami, right? Sure, Denver and Chicago seem to be offering him more, but does he really want to go to either of those teams? If he signs with Cleveland, he has to take a massive paycut. Miami is really his only option for good money and a good team.

Sources on @TheVertical: So far, closest Wade has to a third-year on deal: Chicago w/ a partial guarantee. Denver, Miami offering two years.
If he goes back to Miami, I suspect it will be because they offer him something like 3/66. If that happens, Miami is going to be absolutely awful in that 3rd year. They'll be capped out with a 37 year old Wade, 35 year old Bosh, 33 year old Dragic, and 30 year old Whiteside. Unless Winslow develops to a top 10 player, that team is winning 25 games.

Man none of these teams would have a chance. They would all get killed. The 15 dollar restriction is kind of silly when GS basically has 23 to spend.

Lebron 7

Kawhi 5

Tristan Thompson 1

Avery Bradley 1

Jae Crowder 1

Lebron running point.

Bradley on Steph, Kawhi on Klay, Crowder on Green, Lebron on Durant, Tristan on any center they put in

What's the infatuation with rookies? If you are looking for a shooter who doesn't play defense you could grab Korver.
Rookies don't count or can't play?  Do I not have enough of perimeter defenders in Bradley and Leonard along with Lebron.  You need to out score this team to win and I went with are Reddick and Heidl as my 3pt specialists. It's going to take an atypical team to beat GS and Reddick and Heidl have have a unique skill set that I think could be an asset in beating GS.

You can make lineups that would be competitive offensively and lineups that are competitive defensively but it's really hard to do both, especially with a PG that could attack Curry like Irving did.

Family went to a bunch of Gophers games right after moving to Minnesota.  It was Clem's breakout team: Melvin Newbern, Kevin Lynch, Willie Burton, Richard Coffey, and Jim Shikenjanski.  We joked that we wanted Shik to miss his first jumper because we didn't want him to get any ideas.

Last I heard, Shik was still living in the Cities.  Don't remember the details, but IIRC he was in beverage distribution and marketing, trying to get smaller labels on shelves and such.
