I have no strong NCAA rooting interests, so when my UNC buddies tell me JJ Redick is evil incarnate, I have a tendency to just take their word at face value. But I have to say, his podcast is very good.

ps i wish larry sanders all the best in the world and hope he gets right in the head but if he ever comes back to the nba i hope the bucks make him look like a huge chump every time they play and that he goes to the lakers and stinks the bag forever take that to teh bank

Rose sounds like quite the scumbag and idiot (which we already knew). I'm surprised this isn't getting more attention.
He has to have some sort of mental handicap.

Lucky for him, he's going into basketball obscurity this year so no one will care about this.

Rose had to take the SAT several times before scoring high enough to be eligible for college basketball.  His passing exam was so suspicious ETS later voided the score, vacating Memphis's season with Rose.  The school had to return their share of NCAA Tournament revenue, a non-trivial amount of money given they got to the title game from a small conference.

Yeah, I remember hearing that he cheated on it. The article (or in the comments) said the bar is ridiculously low as far as NCAA requirements on the SAT. True?

It's a sliding scale based on GPA.  If a prospect has good grades, easy bar to clear.  If a prospect is a "C" student in core classes, they have to score close to the national average on their standardized test.  But yes, that bar is much lower than the IQR of SAT/ACT scores of students at most schools that field D-I basketball teams.  Rose was not a good student, and he made the mistake of taking the SAT a couple times before cheating on it.  It was the big spike that triggered the inquiry.

Similar thing happened with Brandon Jennings.  A couple of test scores barely higher than random guessing, then on a later retake jumped up to national average.  The score was decertified on inquiry.  IIRC, testing service audited his test booklet (exam is multiple-choice, all answers recorded on separate bubble sheet, test booklet is turned in with answer sheet and sent back to testing service) by popping it open and barely finding any marks in it.  Testing service concluded his wasn't doing his own work; if he was, there would have been a lot of writing in the margins and markings on the questions and answer choices.

All these years, I thought he gave his consent for somebody else to take his SAT.

Clearly I was mistaken.

It looks like we are going to need at least one extra person in our NBA BTTF V draft,   if any of you guys want to get in on it. Hopefully we'll get going by the end of the week so we can finish well before the start of the season.

Rose's defense team is taking an interesting approach.

Doe’s questions for prospective trial jurors takes a largely procedural route, asking if the jurors have health issues, scheduling conflicts, or if they know any of the three defendants. The proposed survey does ask, “Have you formulated any opinions as to what a woman should do in a situation when she has been raped?” then continues with a series of follow-up questions:

i. Do you think that every woman should react in the same way when she is raped?

ii. Have you known anyone in your family that has been sexually assaulted?

iii. Has anyone in the room been sexually assaulted?

vii. Do you think that a person can consent to sexual intercourse when they are intoxicated?

viii. Do you think that a person can consent to sexual intercourse when they are unconscious?

ix. Do you think that if someone invites you over to their home at 1:00 am that you have gained consent to have sexual intercourse with them?

x. What are your opinions of three men having sexual intercourse with one woman?

The list of proposed questions from Rose’s camp includes:

4. Do you think NBA players are overpaid?

6. Do you think the younger generation has been exposed to a different set of values and mores when it comes to sex?

10. Do you think a woman has a right to have sex with three men in the same day if that is what she decides she wants to try? Would you judge a woman harshly who tried something like that for one night?

12. Do you think single people in their twenties are free to make whatever sexual choices they want to make, without being judged by it?

13. Do you think someone who admits to lying is more prone to lie in order to get money?

15. Have you heard the phrase “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned?” What does that phrase make you think?

Over unders are out: http://www.espn.com/chalk/story/_/id/17597014/las-vegas-sets-golden-state-warriors-regular-season-wins-665

after a quick glance, I think I like the SA over, and Minnesota under (still too soon). Maybe the Jazz under as I think people may be getting a little ahead of themselves there.
I agree on Utah, that's a big step up.

I like Toronto over 49.5.  Not really seeing anyone other than Boston being any better than them in the East, and they still get all those games with PHI, NYK and BRK.  They should crack 50.

so they gots the waukee at 39 point five that is sort of a trappy number i do not think they have the upside i thought they did last year because they still have michael crapper williams on the team but they will probably play better than last year so i will still say under but i am hoping that they prove me wrong in a tron master sort of way take that to the trade the crapper and the moose monroe for antyhing bank brohans

maybe the bucks will throw in michael crapper williams just for the hell of it take that to the bank bromigos

just have absolutely no idea what the Bucks are ever trying to do. there doesn't seem to be a plan in any way. not in 15 years at least.

i think they are going to depend on tron master and gianis anteaternintendo and kermit hensen to defend and now they got some scoring with beasaly who basically does not even know what comes after c that is all i am sayin so hey they just really need a pg maybe they think they got something with vaughn who knows but what i do know is that i do not like michael crapper williams at all take that to the bank

Houston not a .500 team?  Oh come on.  They started last year terribly and got rid of the guy everyone hated.  jB nickerstaff had them over .500 in his time and mike dantoni cant possibly be worse than that guy.  Beverly had injuries, harden showed up fat, donuts was available 1/3 of the season and ty ####### Lawson got some run. Capella is older, Harrell is older, so on and so forth...

and they aren't .5 games better?

Im loading up.

just for the record since kobme is gone my new lesat favorite player in the nba is ole captain fartbeard james harden screw that flopmaster brohans take that to the this aint european flopper soceer bank

Tough team for me to get a read on. You can talk yourself into that lineup being a top 3-5 offense, but they are also starting three of the worst defensive players in the league.

I saw Milwaukee tweets about an Ennis-Beasley deal today.  I had no idea they were talking about Michael Beasley.  Who knew?

So what country was Ennis traded to?

Howard will never win a championship in large part because he's a mental midget, but he's a damn good regular season franchise center.

Not disagreeing. I am disappointed in how that turned out.  That said, I don't think there is any way this team is worse barring injury.

Cons - lost Dwight Howard and Terrence Jones (who barely played) and Jason terry and Michael Beasley

pros - new coach who has won before, adding donuts, nene, dekker, Ryan Anderson, Eric Gordon and three other nice young players are a year older (Capella, kj, Harrell).

I think the o/u is off by 4.5 games on the conservative side. Dantoni's biggest challenge may come from half the team being new and not having much chemistry. That said, Unless harden gets smothered by the fat Kardashian this team is better than last year's squad that finished at .500

Obviously Harden has to stay healthy for the team to be better than last year. And I am a huge fan of Capella, Ariza, and Beverly However I just dont see it being possible that Eric Gordon, Ryan Anderson or Nene won't be hurt at some point during the year. Gordon never played more than 64 games in any of the past 5 years, Nene is a shell of himself already and missed 24 games last year. Anderson has missed 87 games the past 3 years total. Donuts needs to show he can stay healthy for a full year. Dekker needs to show that he can provide something off the bench. While I'm a  fan of Harden and the Rockets as a whole, they will be hovering around .500 by the time the end of the year comes around. I believe the Dantoni addition will be good in a couple years, but do you see Anderson, Gordon, Nene, and Pablo running a fast break? The fast break would work if the Rockets were able to bring in other players in addition to their leftovers of Harden, Ariza, Beverly, Harrell, Donuts, Brewer, Capella, and Smoove.

Not saying the 1st team are defensive stoppers, but having Capella, Ariza, and Beverly helps. But, who is going to play defense on the 2nd team off the bench? Brewer, maybe. Harrell, sure he will hustle but undersized at times. Smoove, when he wants to. Nene, Gordon, Pablo? No thanks.

Chemistry should be better at least.

Anyone attend an NBA game with seats in the lower level that are up and behind the backboard?  Thoughts?? Looking into getting season tickets and those are fairly cheap.

That's one area I usually try to avoid.  How nice is the video screen?  You'll probably be watching it half of the time.

Ok going to avoid that. They have some on the corner but they look like an odd viewing angle as well. They have center court, 3rd row on the 2nd level available for about half the cost of what the ones behind the basket are. Any thoughts on those?

Define "behind the backboard...if directly behind then they are generally bad since the backboard and shot clocks can get in the way....if they are off to the side especially lower near a bench they are generally pretty good and interesting since you get to see the bench interactions, you're near the court, and there isn't anything impeding your view.  It's a different perspective that people either hate or love.

I've sat in lower level Section 7 (http://www.thegarden.com/seating.html) and loved it, but they aren't for everyone.

The ones in the corner are on the other side of the court. The ones behind the back board are row 10 or 26.

They are also a Harden injury away from being a bottom 4-5 team.

http://aviewfrommyseat.com/venue/Wells+Fargo+Center/seating-chart/  That site crowdsources pictures as well.  From those, I definitely wouldn't do 117-9.

From there you have to decide if being lower is better than being up top.  I've generally found that if the arena has 2 rows of luxury boxes, you'd rather be lower, but it's really up to you.
