When Rondo first signed in Chicago, I thought I heard it was a one year $10 million contract. Turns out it is a two year $28 million contract with a $3 million guarantee in the second year. That team is going to be a train wreck.
Nice contract to trade at the deadline

If the Celtics don't land Westbrook I wouldn't mind them trading for Gay.
Seems like those Philly rumors are starting up again as well...Westbrook is so tough...would be a huge score but you need to know he's gonna resign because the price will be hefty...not sure if he will be willing to do so without testing the waters first...Hayward or Gallinari are guys I'd like to see them look at as well...both are free agents after this year and Hayward appears to want out of Utah...

rudy gay was like number 78 in that espn list from last month about the most well-known (or something like that) athletes in the world.  why exactly is he that high?

We started off with Forbes' list of the 100 highest-paid athletes, then sought input from ESPN journalists to add other notable athletes. ESPN director of sports analytics Ben Alamar created a formula that combined athletes' salary/winnings and endorsements with their social media following -- Facebook, Twitter and Instagram -- along with Google search popularity to create a comparative ranking system.
i guess he's made a pretty good amount in salary, but what endorsements?  And only 1.2 million on twitter.

Maybe the search term for inefficient nba players is quite popular.

When Bender adds strength, look out. Tools at that size can't teach. Chrisse needs a lot of work (esp with his shot). Doesn't seem to have the highest basketball IQ.

Loving the potential of these Suns youngs. One or both of Bledsoe/Knight aren't long for Phoenix. On a rebuilding franchise, only in the way of Booker & Ulis.

Booker don't belong in summer league. Still 19. Just silly

Can someone explain why harden would sign an extension now instead of opting for free agency in two years?  Is there new money in the next two years? Why is he able to sign an extension with two years left on the current deal.  So much confusion.

Increased his salary by $21 million for the next two years and the deal includes a player option in 18-19.

the extension has to do with some provision of the cba.

sorry, option is for 19-20.  Read this: https://www.google.com/amp/www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/nba/2016/7/9/12136234/james-harden-rockets-contract-extension-118-million-houston?client=safari#

Fournier's French team, Gordon's US team and Hezonja's Croatian team qualify for Olympics.

Starting to feel like a dynasty.

Ben Simmons in the deal. There is no way OKC would do a deal without him in it.
Even if Russell Westbrook signed a long term deal to play in Philly (and why would he?) 76ers probably wouldn't trade Simmons for Westbrook straight up.  Without a long term deal there's absolutely no way Philly would even consider something like that.  A 1 year rental of Westbrook makes sense for almost every team, but the value is a whole lot less than Westbrook is worth talent-wise.  Because when it's all said and done he probably has already decided what team he'll be playing with after next year.  Okafor might be fair value for him.  But I'm not sure why Philly would do that for a one year rental when Westbrook might not get them past 40 wins.

That was my point, Philly doesn't/won't have the pieces to deal for Westbrook.

:lmao:  at Okafor even being close to fair value, They already have Okafor in OKC, his name is Kanter.

I don't think you understand that Westbrook is a 1 year deal.  Okafor has more years at a really cheap price.  It's not about who is a better player.  Obviously Westbrook is a better player, but that isn't how trades work.

I think you are greatly underrating Westbrook. If they could sign him to an extension, which they can't, they would trade Simmons in a heartbeat. The chances of Simmons being near as good as Westbrook is are pretty slim. Westbrook might be the third best player in the NBA, and probably no worse than fifth or sixth.

It's really hard to argue otherwise.

why didn't Wiggins play for Canada? Saw some angry Canucks commenting on it today on Twitter.

I understand perfectly, you are undervaluing Westbrook, top 5 players in their prime don't go on the block very often, one year left isn't nearly sinking his value as much as you think it is. You are also overvaluing Okafor, who has been on the block for a while now and if you believe the reports Philly couldn't even get the 3rd pick for him.

The value is okc getting something in return for him instead of nothing. They're not going to get any free agents anytime soon either. So their best bet is to trade the asset and form a new young core and try to compete again sooner rather than delaying it in a small market that won't be able to sustain while losing.

Get the #### outta here with that.  No place for reason or rational talk in this thread!
Some people just don't know how to handle the offseason.

We know Russell has some growing up to do.  If I was in his corner, I'd rather see him play summer league and take a leadership role than hope he's taking care of himself with a lot of unsupervised time.

I think for a non-contending team he's not over emphasizing the one year left on his deal. That's a deal killer right from the get go for Philly. The other deal killer is the 76'ers are building the team around Ben Simmons. Can't recall exact quote from Brown last night but when he discussed signing Bayless it was something along the lines of wanting a PG to play alongside Simmons who did not need the ball in their hands so often, because that's the role they envision for Simmons. Of course if Westbrook agreed to an extension prior to the trade the only way I could see the 76'ers landing him would be if they traded Simmons so second deal killer is likely a moot point.

Melo did a few years ago (was 6th in the MVP voting that year), was willing to sign long term with the team that traded to him.  And was younger than Westbrook is now.  The Nuggets got a 1st rounder (at the time seemed like a mid to late 1st rounder considering Melo hadn't missed the playoffs in his career) and a bunch of mid-tier players.  If you think Westbrook has a lot more value than that I guess we'll see what OKC gets if they move him.  But I doubt it will be much of a haul.  They might hold on to him for that reason.

I think the Celtics would give up Thomas, next year's Brooklyn pick and a couple of other young guys to get him.

They'd have to be crazy to make that trade.  Unless of course he'd agree to sign a long term contract.
It depends on who the other guys are, but Thomas and next year's Brooklyn pick (by which I assume he means 2018) is a good start.  The '18 Nets pick will probably not be as good as '17 and you are getting a premier player to pair with Horford, who is essentially just going to decline, so in some ways they  have to realize some short-term goals.  Getting a chance at a player like that, plus being in the driver's seat for the contract you can offer him, is definitely worth Thomas and a first-round pick.  The Celtics will also have to contend with who they will pay as these young guys come up, so consolidating into 1 premier player makes the most sense, considering that Boston would still have the extra '17 first-round and 2 extra first-rounders in '19.

If you were a GM would you make that trade without a long-term contract?  If so I'm happy you're not my team's GM.  Thomas is an allstar (granted barely) under a very good contract, next year's Brooklyn pick (I'm assuming he means the next draft since we have an entire season before that draft) has the potential to be a high pick in a highly regarded class.

So you trade an all-star under a good contract and a potential top 5 or 10 pick in a strong draft for 1 year of non contending.

If you think Horford, Amir Johnson, Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder and Russell Westbrook has a chance at a title this year you're crazy.
