2016-17 NBA Thread: Finals are over, please go away (5 Viewers)

Just got a notification from The Score, 3 years/85M.  I'm a touch surprised.
3rd year is a player option, so as catch said, it's essentially a 1-year extension. But yeah, even that seems a surprise. Maybe with his style of play, he wanted a little more security while still setting up for the max after his 10th season.

OKC makes as much basketball sense as about anywhere he'd go in the next 2 years anyway.

Or, he knows he's got a better shot to be traded on a 2-year deal.

When can he be traded now?  Isn't there a waiting period after signing a deal?

neat how the coverage of Westbrook re-signing with OKC has played out so far today.

Durant gets killed for leaving,  Westbrook gets killed for staying.

"he only signed with OKC for the money!", "he's staying because he's selfish and wants 40+ shots per game", "he only signed because he wants to be the lead dog and Billy Donovan won't stand in his way".

have yet to hear "Westbrook stays home" or "Westbrook does the right thing in signing with his current team", etc.

now that i think about it, seems like every signing no matter the player, team, number of years or dollar amount is getting savaged.  ####### sports media is the wurst.

Westbrook is going to land a 5 year / $200m plus deal in 2018 at age 29 barring an injury or something. Could be more if the new CBA increases max salaries. Pretty crazy.

Just made way too much financial sense. Also, people always assumed he wanted to go to LA, but I never, ever saw anything from him that indicated that was a foregone conclusion or that he wanted to leave. I think people made a lot of assumptions about his personality based on the way he plays.

listen i dont care how much they overpaid or underpaid honestly just do not care all i care about is that he did not go to the fake show because f kobme thats why take that to the bank bromigos

People make alot of assumptions, period.

I just think it's fun that the three guys most "rumored" to the lakers signed extensions this summer (derozan, harden, Russ)

I'd never heard Harden to the Lakers. Lots of people outside the organization created Derozan rumors, but there was never any real indication from the team that they were seriously interested in him.

Pretty good Olympic tournament so far. Burner of a game between Brazil and Argentina.

Whatever team Nene loafs around for now has to be really angry to be watching him here.

Quarters set

Quarterfinals:
USA (A1) vs. Argentina (B4)
Spain (B2) vs. France (A3)

Croatia (B1) vs. Serbia (A4)
Australia (A2) vs. Lithuania (B3)

oooof. That top half of the bracket probably has the 4 best teams in this thing. US has a road ahead of them.

Very balanced tournament so far.

There's no sophistication on offense and they have neither the practice time nor the personnel to install the defense they are trying to run.

Krzyzewski and Thibodeau are trying to win the tournament with defense, when FIBA is an offensive-minded game.

This was not a cycle for USA to have the varsity sit out for various, totally justifiable reasons.  USA's problems are nothing a starting five of Westbrook, Curry, LeBron, Leonard, and Davis couldn't solve, but none of them are in Rio.

ETA: Forgot Towns played for the Dominican Republic in 2012.  Thanks, GPJ!

Towns can't play for the US. :/

It's not an ideal situation roster-wise, but it should not be this hard.
