Your American status is upheld. Congrats!I hate their rat faced coach and overall I think it would be good for global basketball
The Simmons one was the first I've heard, but I was impressed. Thought it was interesting (not shocking, but interesting) that Redick said Durant was GSW's best player.I enjoyed the JJ Riddick podcasts as well on the Vertical. His last one with Bill Simmons was good.
I mean, why in the hell is Harrison Barnes on this team? That was baffling when it was announced and it's particularly stupid now. Doesn't make any sense at all.Towns can't play for the US. :/
It's not an ideal situation roster-wise, but it should not be this hard.
Spain isn't coming close to beating that team that played today. I imagine the US comes out with the same enthusiasm on Friday, but they have loafed plenty this tournament.I'm loading up on Spain, Team USA is going down
Gonna miss Ginobili in international play. His gold in 2004 seems like it should be worth a lot more than 1.0.Very cool scene with the Argentine fans the last quarter. Non-stop singing.
There's probably a handful of American wings who were available that could've gone over Barnes, but I don't think any of them would've moved the needle significantly.I mean, why in the hell is Harrison Barnes on this team? I don't want to parrot Simmons, but another shooter would've been nice. Doesn't necessarily have to be 6'8 wing IMOThere's probably a handful of American wings who were available that could've gone over Barnes, but I don't think any of them would've moved the needle significantly.
My favorite US teams are the spectuacular flame-outs or the utterly dominant ones. This team kinda has "weak gold" written all over it.
I think Middleton and Lillard both would've been great, although the latter doesn't solve this team's defensive shortcomings. But he's a nightmare matchup, and more threatening on offense than Irving, overall.Capella said:I don't want to parrot Simmons, but another shooter would've been nice. Great game for him todayDemonstrative play by DeAndre.
And a nice block on the other end.
Serbia's defense was suffocating. That was a ridiculous display by them.Serbia is rolling the Aussies right now. Australia has only scored 25 points with 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Teodosic is lighting them up at the other end.

Just wanted to drop a line and say thank yall for the basketball talk over the years. It has often made me think and I've learned quite a bit, in spite of some occasional prickliness. This is one of the best threads in the FFA, and I'm sure it will continue on that way. I hope I've contributed to that in some small way.
I have accepted work in the industry and, as such, will now pretty much have to avoid posting on the topic. I've got no idea which direction my life will go next so maybe someday I'll be back. But who really knows. Anyway, thanks. Feel free to PM if you care about anything deeper.
K hasn't lost a game as the national coach since 2006. I would say he's done ok.Does the US Team have a coach? A pick up game at the Y looks more coordinated than these guys in the 1st quarter. Can't wait till Pop is coaching this thing. No way he puts up with the sloppy hero-ball garbage that is on the floor right now.
The exact number of the Team USA winning streak will be reported by the end of the game. IIRC it's somewhere in the 70s, including the Olympics, Worlds, and qualifiers. Their last loss was in the semifinals at the 2006 Worlds, K's first big tournament with Team USA. Under K's watch, USA hasn't lost a single game at the Olympics and is about to win their third gold medal in a row to go with back-to-back undefeated performances at the Worlds.K has literally never lost a game as the national coach. I would say he's done ok.
I largely agree, but he was handed a relatively #### roster this time and they're about to run the whole thing. I always thought colangelo was the brains behind this (and he is) but this was a terrible roster construction. Harrison Barnes may be the worst/dumbest selection in all the dream team years. The exact number of the Team USA winning streak will be reported by the end of the game. IMO the real credit goes to people up top like Colangelo putting an emphasis on getting the top players to participate and not viewing FIBA tournaments as a vehicle to sell personalities, shoes, and jerseys. There's several coaches who could do what K has done during this era for Team USA, but there are many people running or have run NBA benches 2006-2016 who couldn't.
I agree that Colangelo deserves a lot of credit, judging how well K has done is difficult considering how far ahead of everyone else the US is. What's "par" for how much talent they've had for the number of tourneys K has coached. 1 loss? 2? If this team had gone to Brazil with literally no coaching staff, how much would it decrease their odds of winning?I largely agree, but he was handed a relatively #### roster this time and they're about to run the whole thing. The team this year won because of talent, not because of coaching. As for 2006 onward, a chimp would have had the same record over that time frame. Had he done it with college players, then maybe it would have been impressive. But with an NBA all-star squad every year? He lost exactly as many as he should have.K hasn't lost a game as the national coach since 2006. I would say he's done ok.
In 2004, Larry Brown had Carmelo, Lebron, Tim Duncan at peak Duncan and Allen Iverson. So, no, a chimp would not have necessarily done the same thing. The team this year won because of talent, not because of coaching. Lebron is a choker though. In 2004, Larry Brown had Carmelo, Lebron, Tim Duncan at peak Duncan and Allen Iverson. So, no, a chimp would not have necessarily done the same thing.
That was when it became evident that he was never going to win a championship.Lebron is a choker though.
ESPN. That's cute. They evaluated all the Kings off season moves and said yea, this team is going to be better than last year. Watch out!ESPN is projecting the sixers to win 24.5 games.
Kings are projected to win 37.7

Did not see it, but I can see why you'd have those questions, since they relate so directly to the police and the black community.Daywalker said:Anyone catch that "Undefeated" ESPN showcase the other night about problems with the police and the black community?
I only saw parts.
I saw that Rondo was on it. Did they mention him calling a gay ref a f*&*Ing F$%^&t this past year?
Saw that Wade and his pastor mom was on it. Did they mention him getting someone preggo while being engaged to Gabrielle Union?
People make mistakes. Who am I to judge? But when you make huge mistakes don't try to put yourself forward as a role model. Just sit back and collect your checks. Don't insult us.
Next NBA All-Star Dunk Contest sponsored by Sprite, you come out in a cape and a Skip Bayless mask, and you hammer it down wearing oven mitts. And when you come down (after the backflip) and the ball is bouncing in front of you, you kick that ####### ball right out of the arena and into a nearby bubbling volcano. And before they can give you the car you just won, you walk right out of the arena past everyone, never to be seen again, off to wander the Earth like Kane.Anyone catch that "Undefeated" ESPN showcase the other night about problems with the police and the black community?

I think he could be a nice 4th big that could split time at both the 4 and 5. No place left for him in Denver, but I think he's a better player than 2 2nd rounders.King Joffrey has been killed in Denver, but will rise again in OKC for 2 second round picks.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out since I believe he's a RFA this year, but it seems like a nice pick-up for them.
