CSN reporting that Cousins will sign a super-max extension with the Kings this offseason. Kings fan reaction is mostly negative. What a weird/bizarre situation on so many levels. 

 
Its been a very long road for us Sixer fans but it looks like its going to be worth it.  Really looking forward to Simmons playing, developing the relationship between him and JoJo and hopefully another top 2 pick.

:lol: Randle has been pretty good this year. The flat out overall stupid play by most of the team over the last month or so is concerning. The Deng and Mozgov signings are looking worse than I initially thought they were. On the plus side, Zubac got some playing time last night. He didn't look like a total stiff at least. :excited:

Those two are in the top 5 worst contracts from this year.

In no particular order:

Deng, Mozgov, Biyombo, Turner and Noah.

Honourable mentions to Anderson, Parsons, Crabbe and Howard. 

 
I wouldn't put Howard or maybe even Anderson on that list (yet at least). I'd be inclined to go back to Portland for the Meyers Leonard signing, or Solomon Hill. maybe even Bazemore or Marvin Williams.

There were a lot of bad moves this offseason, most of the contracts weren't terrible in themselves, but the ideas behind many of them were laughable.

- Orlando pushing Gordon to SF to go all in on Biyombo and Ibaka was a terrible short and long term decision.

- LAL limiting their money for the 17/18/19 with $136 million of Deng and Mozgov.

- The Blazers going all in on a team that barely won half of its games. The Turner contract was by far the worst overspend of the offseason.

- The Bulls forgetting that it isn't still 1970 and we shooting threes in today's game.

- The Knicks forgetting that it isn't 2011 anymore.

Ibaka has been good. Him and Gordon at the 5/4 would be a lot of fun. Of course the Biyombo thing is stupid and unnecessary.

Not going to argue with any of those. Went with the more expensive contracts as they are more detrimental.

I agree that Anderson shouldn't be on that list, the Rockets are playing great with him. The Howard contract isn't terrible, the idea(s) behind signing him were the problem IMO. Everything other than extending CJ was a terrible decision by the Blazers. Solomon Hill sucks like most people though, but his contract is small enough not to cripple them. Bazemore has underachieved and was an overpay to begin with, but at the time I thought it was justifiable. Marvin Williams would still get that same contract from somebody, even if his shooting has been disappointing so far this year.

I agree, his play isn't the problem. I even kind of liked the trade at the time, but that move combined with the subsequent moves made no sense. In the offseason they either should have gone into full re-build and traded everything they could other than Gordon, Hezonja and their first rounder, or try to build some shooting around what they already had to win more now. What they did instead was make a ####ty team that wasn't developing its two biggest assets properly.

Toronto is getting just as good of production out of Bebe this year as this did from Biyombo last year. Not nearly as good of rebounder but far better on offense (doesn't take much) and protecting the paint.

 
Props to the Atlanta Hawks for scheduling a throwback uniform night (or ugly uniform night) featuring Seattle Seahawks colors 24 hours before they play tomorrow.

I am worried.  The teams that I know can be worse are:

brooklyn

sixers

suns

mavs (if dirk doesn't play too much)

heat (I think now that Winslow is out)

There are a few other possibilities I guess, but the bottom has been falling out on la and if they get toward the end of the season and are right on the edge, why wouldn't they tank?  Bring back Kobe for a couple games maybe?

It will take time, but Ingram, Russell and Randle are all future stars and Nance has a future role on a contenting team, plus that first rounder isn't lost yet.

:no:   i know everyone sees now that Hinkie knew what he was doing and how to build a true contender for years to come, but the Lakers won't luck into another Kobe again. Saying Ingram, Randle and Russell are future stars is simply crazy. I know LA fans, for whatever reason, still think the NBA just revolves around them, but you will be lucky with 1 "star" out of that group. I will give you that they are 3 NBA starters, but more then that is really hoping for some luck and that everything comes together.

Certainly anything can happen and it's an optimistic view of players who still have a lot of growing to do, but as someone who watches every Lakers game and can see Staples Center outside my window as I'm typing this, I see something special in all three players. They play crappy defense, make mistakes and have inconsistency issues like most players 22 and under, but they regularly make plays you just don't see from young players -- superstar-caliber plays where you can envision how good they could be when they put it all together. The most impressive thing about Ingram is his ability to initiate the offense as a 19-year-old forward. Randle is an effort player, but not the typical effort player with his three triple doubles in his first season and a half. Russell not only has the fancy passes but is developing a quick release like Curry, posts up smaller point guards and has a real skill in the mid-range with the way he shields off defenders. Curry was still in college at his age. I'll admit that there's always a risk in how young players develop, so your 1 in 3 is fair. But all three have potential to be top-20 players and I'm excited to see them grow together. I also think they complement each other well. In the future, I envision them in the Curry, Durant and Green roles. I'm not saying they'll ever be as good as those three, but they all at their bests have similar skillsets to match up to those roles. And I think Nance can be a strong complementary player with his defense, energy and athleticism. He's a heady player as well. We'll see with Zubac. Maybe he can develop into a starter as well. I'd like to see them get their Klay Thompson defensive/3-pt specialist SG. Hopefully in the next draft after winning the No. 2 pick again in the lottery.

Not sure how probable it is but rest assured they will be in full tank mode by the end of the month.  A top 3 pick in this years draft plus converting the 2019 first (owed to PHX?) into two seconds is an amazing haul.

 
NBA will consider shortening games due to millennial attention spans

A 2015 study by Microsoft revealed that the average person's attention span in this wild world of technology and social media is down to eight seconds — which is less than that of a goldfish.

If you're an NBA fan and you're still reading this (and kudos to you, if you are) ...  there's no need to worry. NBA commissioner Adam Silver has it covered.

You know those late-game situations, where timeout after timeout make the final 30 seconds last 10 minutes? During a press conference in London before the Denver Nuggets' 140-112 rout of the Indiana Pacers on Thursday, Silver noted that the league tracks the end of games — specifically the number of timeouts that are allowed — "very closely" and said the NBA's competition committee will likely take a "fresh look" at game length at the end of the season.

"It’s something that I know all of sports are looking at right now, and that is the format of the game and the length of time it takes to play the game,” Silver said. “Obviously people, particularly millennials, have increasingly short attention spans, so it’s something as a business we need to pay attention to. ... When the last few minutes of the game take an extraordinary amount of time, sometimes it’s incredibly interesting for fans, other times it’s not."

Well done, commissioner Silver. Well done.

If you look at the current projections on 538, you've got BKN at 18 wins at the bottom.  Then you have 5 teams kind of clustered together:

MIA: 26-56

PHI: 26-56

PHX: 28-54

LAL: 29-53

DAL: 29-53

Then the next team is ORL at 33-49.

So the Lakers are definitely way down there at this point where being at least 2nd-worst is well within the realm of possibility. After a decent start, they've lost 19 of 24.  Though their schedule through the AS break doesn't look terrible, so we will see what happens over the  next month.

 
Pretty awesome that they put arguably the two best teams in NBA on national tv for MLK day. Kudos Silver.

Magic @ Denver has been a high paced first quarter as well.
