It's frustrating to see decent bench players go unused. Aldrich, Tyus Jones and Rush are quality bench options but rarely played. Rush goes weeks without playing at all then suddenly he's the starter when LaVine is out. Bit odd

Makes some sense...guess we need to see what type of protections are on the 1st. If it's lottery protected (like it should be) this is more like a big meh for both sides.

They already didn't keep Mozgov once - why would they trade for him again - even assuming a cap fairy exists that could make contracts work out somehow without the Lakers taking in deals as sorry as the ones they want to ship out.

On the bright side, they can only start looking better and better over the next 3 years as the time slowly bleeds away.Lakers look like they're going to be starting Ingram now at SF and Tarik Black at C. Deng and Mozgov signings just looking worse and worse.

Doesn't make any sense to me. If the 6ers conclude they couldn't make Embiid and Okafor work, why would Davis and Okafor do better?
I know Davis is a bit more mobile than Embiid to guard 4s....but it still doesn't change the fact that Okafor is still terrible on defense. Not to mention the spacing on offense would be cramped as well. Then again....someone has to score when Davis rests, but yikes.....NOLA just needs to keep their draft picks.

Yep, Magic is really going to have to earn his name all over again for the Lakers to have any hope of working off the Deng/Mozgov anchors.
It's like Jimmy and Mitch didn't know there are these things called assistant coaches that can provide veteran leadership/instruction to young players that don't count against your cap space.

Cavs-Wizards has been bananas. LeBron missed a gimme layup, but then hit an incredible three on a 3/4 court heave from Love to send to OT.

I see the "pro" for the 76ers as being able to add a pick that is 11-30 (11-20 in reality) onto another pick in a potential trade.
Okafors value is static and some teams wont covet him too terribly much. But a pick between 11-20 always has some real value to almost anyone.

Game of the season so far. A lot like that crazy Thunder-Warriors game last year, but more back and forth and also the weird subplot of the Love trade rumors mid-game. Also the Wiz win if Beal grabs LeBron to prevent him from stepping back behind the line. Can't really blame him though, with three seconds left on a full court inbounds you don't expect to find yourself in a position to foul without risking three foul shots.
Anyway, lotta talk about the eastern conference finals last night, but I think this is more likely to be a conference semifinal matchup. Wiz schedule after the break is rough, I don't know if they can catch Toronto or Boston to move up to the 2/3 seed.

Yeah that was a great game. Mini run fest. Has to be a kick in the nuts to lose when Lebron fouls out early in OT. Kyrie and Wall would put on the show of all shows in a 7 game series.

When your team starts the season 6-12 and then finds itself 30-20 and playing in the best game of the season it's hard to be too bitter about the result. Kyrie had been passive all game, I kinda figured he'd be the only scorer with something left in the tank.
I do think it's a little weird how much they play LeBron in the regular season. But I also thought maybe he'd struggle a bit at the end of the game as a result of the heavy minutes and that obviously wasn't an issue, so what the hell do I know.

The theory would be that Davis can guard any 4 while Embiid can't. Basically the Pels (and Davis) want him to be a stretch 4 (they don't think he can hold up long term as a stretch 5) and Okafor can ultimately play passable one-on-one defense in the post with Davis providing help rim protection when the 4 can't shoot.
Put it this way, this move isn't a championship move, but maybe a 4-6 seed in the playoffs move. Once (If) Okafor develops as they anticipate he still would have too many holes to be a true championship contender, but he'd be good enough to mimic something like Memphis does.

I thought for sure he was going to take a week or two off in January like he did last year. Maybe his ailing back and other injuries were taking a toll last year where this year he's not as banged up. Could still be a short rest to come after the ASB I guess.

I guess they could outright tank for one of the SFs (Jackson, Tatum, Isaac..all lengthy good defenders) which would then give them something like Holiday, Hield, SF, Davis.
Even then with the way their salary cap is and the fact they'd need to resign Holiday (ie they'd have no real way to get better at the 4/5), with the wing defenders/length they'd have at the 3-4, trading for Okafor with a lottery-protected '18 would make some sense. That's at least a somewhat interesting team.

I went to the Nuggets-Mavericks game last night and was really impressed with Dwight Powell. I've really never watched him before, but he looks to be an elite athlete at the 4/5 and plays with very high energy. I was also watching him for 10 minutes in pre-game (he caught my eye because his head was getting close to hitting the rim) and although he hasn't shown it in games, he has a really nice looking stroke. Arguably, he has been the best player on the Mavs this year. Why haven't they been playing him a lot more?

Is he really much of a player? He had a nice December, but otherwise he has been pretty bad. For what it's worth, he is the same age as MKG or Bradley Beal who are already on their second contracts. Not that he won't be a rotation player, but I highly doubt he'll ever be a JJ Redick type, which is what they drafted him to be.
This. I don't think it moves the needle for them, but they don't have a ton of talent and if they can acquire an asset at a slight discount (in this case, for a non lottery pick), they should do it and worry about fit later.

Hield's more than fine at catch and shooting from 3-point range (he's actually shooting 42% on these types of shots)....he just can't finish at the rim or shoot from 2 point range (he takes it to the rim twice as much as Redick and converting at a horrible rate which is hitting all his numbers). Basically he doesn't know what a good shot is...the more he plays like JJ, the better.

I don't think it is really fair to compare rookie Hield to 32 year old Redick, plus it took Redick until he was 25 to live up to his draft pick, but I do think the Pelicans were expecting JJ-lite production nearly immediately.
On his own merit, Hield has been pretty bad though. Statistically, you're right, he has hit a good percentage of his catch and shoot threes, but the great majority of those have been open shots. The more concerning thing should be he has been atrocious on pull ups (25%) and until his senior year, he wasn't great shooting pull ups either. If he is just a catch and shoot specialist that doesn't play much D, they are going to be very disappointed.

The Kings have reportedly been active in the trade market, and there's a growing sense that they could move Darren Collison and Kosta Koufos at the deadline.
Kings' GM firmly denied that the Kings are shopping DeMarcus Cousins on Monday, but it does seem likely that they will make a trade to try and help bolster the roster around DMC. Collison is in a pretty good spot for value as Sacramento's starting point guard, but he'd likely be a reserve on most teams, so his value would likely take a hit with a trade. Koufos already isn't worth owning, and that won't change based on the name across his jersey. Feb 7 - 4:39 PM
