All Mountain West fans - his last yr @ SDSU was my last in Albq - knew Kawhi had the Kawhorka. It was a matter of translating the skills. Hard work & Pop, i guess. He turned out to be able to play smaller ball than i thought, too.

Seeing the NBA and Hamilton threads together made me wonder - has anyone done a Carmelo highlights reel to "...and I am NOT gonna give up..my..SHOT!"?

why you gotta bring Tariq Abdul-Wahad in to this?

Actually true.
do those reddit threads go up like 24 hours before the podcast or is there a running thing?  I had a question a week or 2 ago and I thought maybe I could post it on reddit for them, but I could not figure out if there was an ongoing thread or not (though I don't know much about navigating reddit).  I even created a username!

Actually I don't know.  I go to reddit about once a month, and I just happened to go there right after one of those posts had gone up.

Lou Williams is a solid player, but he's not part of the Lakers future...so his salary is a sunk cost. Also, they would rather give William's minutes and experience to the young guys (correct move). So to me the Williams for Brewer part of the deal cancels out from the Lakers perspective.

Could they have traded him for cap relief? Maybe, but that might not have been a goal. If I were the Lakers acquiring a first rounder would be the course I take.

ETA: Seems  like the options are unless something else is reported but....

(1) take back salary, get a 1st

(2) cap relief, no draft pick

Obviously, getting a 2nd and cap relief would be best, but judging from what they accepted it looks like it wasn't offered.
Looks like Utah offered a better first round pick and would have been able to absorb Lou's salary: http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/18840779/the-story-los-angeles-lakers-owner-jeanie-buss-tough-decision

dubs will not shut it down they only have a two game lead on san antonio and with the bench depth not there like it was last year iggy a year older and kd going to be out or rusty or less than one hondo percento hey need home court so i do not think they sit anyone down the stretch just my two centarinos bromigos take that to the bank

Wiz are playing .744 ball over last 43 games.
First team in NBA history to get to 15 games over .500 after starting 2-8 or worse.

Should be noted that they've been incredibly lucky with injuries and whatnot.  Only guy lost for more than a game or two was Mahinmi and they keep catching teams at less than 100%.  Just since the ASB they've watched Durant go down 90 seconds in, played the Lowry-less Raptors twice, and now caught the Nuggets without Jokic, Faried or Gallinari. Still, they should end up with their best regular season record since the 1970s.

I went to the game last night (snuck down to "row 1" ,which is really row 4 - LOOK AT ME!). I've never seen John Wall in person, holy #### is he quick. That also might have been because he was guarded by Nelson for 70% of the game, but he is one of those athletes that looks better in person.

The Nuggets can't afford to lose Jokic for any amount of time. Plumlee is very mediocre as a starting center and playing Arthur and Faried at backup center is not a good look either. The also really need to start Murray at PG. Nelson isn't much of an offensive threat and he is a joke defensively, especially against guys like Wall.

I had the pleasure of watching John Wall in the front rows of a Clippers/Wizards game a couple years ago--and I completely agree with you about Wall.  Dude plays at hyper-speed and seeing it in person is far different than seeing it on TV.

In regards to the Nuggets--I agree that they are very Jokic-centric now.  He's certainly the foundation for that franchise.  With that being said--I wouldn't mind seeing the Trailblazers over take them for the 8 spot. While I think that any 8 seed has zero chance against either the Spurs or the Warriors--I do think that a series featuring Portland versus one of those teams would be funner to watch than watching Denver against them.   I hate repeating myself on this--but I really like how Nurkic is fitting in with the Blazers. I could see Portland taking a game against either of those teams--and probably being competitive in at least one or two more.

Yeah, Wall's definitely a player you have to see in person to fully appreciate, it's not just because Nelson was on him. And he was on the second night of a back-to-back, at altitude, after playing a ton of minutes all season. I thought he was gonna be dragging a lot more than he was.

I think Jokic was just sick with the flu, yes?

Obviously I would rather see the Nuggets in the 8th spot, but it doesn't really matter. It should be one of the most lopsided series in memory. Possibly the most lopsided ever in terms of record difference.

Wall looked plenty fresh.

Yeah, some sort of short-term illness. I think he got Gallinari sick too and that's why he wasn't playing.

Everyone should pay up and get great seats to see the guys play. I had great seats to LeBron play the Hawks in the playoffs a couple years ago. TV does not do these players justice. LeBron was just so much faster than anyone on the court and he made everything look so easy. I knew the Hawks had little chance of beating the Cavs but seeing the game in person showed me they had no chance. I need to get to more NBA games.

I had a Hawks fan tell me they had a chance in that series if Korver didn't get hurt, I didn't even waste my time with a conversation on that.

Wolves seem to be figuring it out on defense. It's probably too late to make anything happen this year but it's nice to see them turning it around

why in the world would TNT televise Lakers @ Suns??  Weird thing with the NBA, too horrible teams and they put it on a national platform.

After reading that Ramona Shelburne article, I see why Jerry Buss wanted Jeannie to have control. Jim Buss is half Fredo Corleone, half AJ Soprano. Unearned arrogance, self-important and just plain dumb. Someone should also tell him that when you constantly wear hats, you are not disguising your baldness, you are drawing attention to it.

Also I hope Westbrook and Harden split the triple-double obsessed wing of the MVP vote and Kawhi walks away with the award. Love that guy.
I agree with you on Kawhi.  I've been a basketball fan my entire life and I can't think of a more low maintenance superstar than Kawhi. His talent is elite, his game is super complete (dude seriously has little to no flaws in his game), and his attitude is amazing.  I might be wrong--but I don't know if I've ever seen that dude complain about a bad call.   I'd love to see him win MVP this season--but I don't think he will.

With that being said--I have zero problem with either Harden or Westy winning it.    Westbrook has essentially put that entire franchise on his back with a questionable supporting cast. Oladipo has been hurt a ton--and has been disappointing when he has played. Kanter missed a ton of time.  I personally expected more from Adams---he's been disappointing.  I do like the Taj/McDermott pickups--but those guys just got there--so essentially Westbrook has single handedly taken that team to playoff status by himself.  You take him off of the the Thunder this season--they are probably the Suns or the Lakers--so he's pretty damn valuable to his team.

If you look at Harden--he's the best player on the third best team in the west. If you look at the Rockets compared to the top 2 seeds in the West--there is a significant talent gap between the warriors/spurs versus the Rockets.  I think if you take Kawhi off of the Spurs--they probably are still a 6-7 seed in the West---if you take Harden off of the Rockets--they probably don't make the playoffs.   The value to his team is certainly great enough to justify winning an MVP award.

Touching on the conversation between how the Spurs/Warriors are both playing right now--which isn't great--I'm not sure if the 1 seed is as motivating as many would think. I think both teams are aware that they'll have to find a way to win a road game or two if they met on the playoffs.  Also--if you look at the way the playoffs are looking--the 1 seed is most likely going to have to play a team like Portland/Denver in the first round--and then the winner of Utah/Clipps in the second round.   Right now--I think teams like Portland/Denver are probably more scary than teams like OKC or Memphis.  The 2 seed will probably have to play OKC or Memphis in the first  and most likely Houston in the second round--which is arguably an easier path.  While Houston does have a solid record--I don't think that GS or SA really fears them.  They are both talented enough and well coached enough to understand that in a seven game series--that the Rockets are essentially a one man show.   The clippers and the jazz might actually be tougher opponents to those teams.   With that being said--I'm not saying that either team is tanking for the 2 seed---I don't think that either would be super bummed about getting it.

Yeah, what a great time for the Lakers to play like an actual basketball team for more than 20 minutes.
the funny one is going to be Philly-LA in a few weeks. I think Colangelo's recent actions are influenced by LA trying to get in that top 3, and I would love to see him try and put the absolute worst product out there that night to ensure Lakers get a win

Tim Duncan?

kawahi leonard is an assasin robot or as i like to call him a brobot who will sneak in to your arena destroy your team and your citys hopes and deams and do it with a smile the whole time and you will say yeah its ok he is just better and like my main man bruce hornsboy said thats just the way it is take that to the bank bromigos

Is Elfrid Payton potentially good? Back to back triple doubles, went for 22/14/14/2/2 the other night.
Not sure but he's my three year old's new favorite athlete.  Kid was absolutely mesmerized by his hair.  It's the only time I've been able to get him to watch more than 5 minutes of a game with me, and he's asked me about him multiple times since we watched (last Sunday).

I looked for a bobblehead for him but it looks like the Magic haven't done one yet, which has to be their most egregious front office mistake of the last five years.

Double forfeiture.

Tim Duncan?
He's probably the closest that comes to mind. I'd still say that Kawhi takes the lowest maintenance to me. I remember Duncan complaining about calls on a fairly regular basis. It wasn't an uncommon thing. Kawhi is like an assassin that has the temperment of a monk.

Ha, not even in the top 5 for this front office in the past 5 years.

Complete ### clowns.

Payton needs shooters and spacing to be decent. Good thing they moved Gordon to the 3 and signed Biyombo and Jeff Green.

Ok I'm done

Just a horrible, horrible win.  Now we own the tiebreaker as well, so we have to finish a game behind PHX.
it is cosmic justice of the universe that the team tainted by kobme is so forever ruined that it can not even lose right man i love it and that my friends is one to grow on take that to the bank brochachos

So far--the Nurkic to Portland dynamic is looking really good.  Dude has played two games with Portland and in each has over a +20 in plus/minus rating.    Nurk has some solid skills for a big man--but is a bit raw and undisciplined.  If he can get "coached up" at Portland--I could see him becomming something special.
Well, I don't know about the "something special" part, but I do know that the last time a Portland player went 12/12/5 with 2 blocks and 3 steals in less than 35 minutes of playing time was.....never.
Nurkic, Thursday night: 28 points, 20 rebounds, 8 assists, 6 blocks, 2 steals.

Number of NBA players who have topped those numbers in a single game since 1983: zero.

Warriors rally late but lose 102-103 to the spunky T-Wolves.

Kerr then announces that Curry, Draymond, Iguodala and Klay Thompson will rest tommorow at San Antonio  :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Let the mind games begin
Man a lot of people paid a lot of money to attend that game. That totally sucks.

Blazers huge break getting Nurkic AND a 1st for upcoming FA Plumlee considering all their bad contracts. Nuggets would be better off starting Gallo-Chandler-Jokic anyway. I'd sign Gallo 200x over before I signed a guy that'd be in the same position Nurkic was in (backup center) with Plumlee.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

So the Bulls deal a starter& 6th man (and best shooter) plus a 2nd for Cam Payne. Which was a  massive overpay just on the surface. And now, Cam Payne is currently the 4th string PG in Chicago...... :lmao:  All his PT was in 4th quarter garbage time tonight.

No one will convince me there's not some sort of disconnect between Hoiberg and the front office. It's a joke this team is even in the playoff picture (for now). They've got 2 high usage players in Butler&Wade......and they're worried about grabbing 9 PG's

I want to go on record here as saying Justin Jackson from UNC is going to be an excellent NBA player.  I've checked in on the mock drafts and he's consistenly in the 20s.  Should be right around 10 or so.
