2016-17 NBA Thread: Finals are over, please go away (10 Viewers)

So I post on a Baseball forum as well and there's a 76ers thread. Usually the guys in there are pretty tam and the guy who runs the thread is pretty intelligent and all. Today he put out this trade proposal which I was kind of shocked he even included Okafor in as he himself even admitted the guy had almost no trade value at the All Star Break. Either way I'll put my thoughts down below the quote  here.

I'd love to see the Sixers package the #3 pick in 2017, their first round pick (unprotected) in either 2018 or 2019, Okafor and the rights to Furkan Kormaz to Chicago in exchange for Butler and the Bulls 2017 first round pick (#16 overall). Maybe you throw in a second round pick or two.

The Bulls get Okafor and can take whoever is there at #3 (Josh Jackson, one of the PG, Tatum, Isaac) and they get future picks and won't have to worry about a massive commitment to Butler.

The Sixers get Butler, move down to #16 in the draft this year where they can take anyone they want, and they move Okafor and use the future assets they've compiled to get a real All-Star to pair with Simmons, Embiid, Saric, Covington, etc.
ME:

How does that even help Chicago? Okafor from everyone thing I read from Chicago beat guys never was a plausible target. They believe the Sixers leaked info out to try to make a seem like there was a market on Okafor as NO used PHI to get the Cousins trade. Okafor offers really nothing to Chicago. They'd be better off keeping Butler and keeping Lopez who plays actual Defense. The only report I heard Chi even looked into was Bos but they refused to give up Bradley, Crowder and the Brooklyn pick and that wasn't even all of it. C's included one of their own first rounders and other pieces. So if You'd have to find the equivalent of those 3 pieces.

Chicago would probably want Saric for offensive purposes if they aren't keeping Mirotic, The 3rd overall Pick and the Lakers and maybe even the Kings pick and packaged seconds pick plus two other key players. Personally the Sixers screwed the pooch of trading Noel to Dal. Noel plus the Lakers or the other part of the Kings pick plus one of the Sixers own and other assets included would've worked better. The Bulls were looking to unload all of Gibson/McDermontt/Mirotic so all three could've maybe been included and the Bulls got Covington and another player or the rights to Kormaz. McDermont adds a shooter they desperately needed and Gibson was on a 1 year deal already so he'd be gone unless he wanted to help the Sixers. Maybe Mirotic ends up at SF. Either way Okafor just has zero trade value right now. Cs like him are being driven out of the league or have rid the bench all year on teams for guys they couldn't get rid of. He plays zero defense, he can't rebound and can't score unless it's some sort of lay up or Dunk.  Lopez kept Bulls in a lot of games with his defensive prowess the team surely lacks since Thibs left and his rebounding. He was a pleasant surprise this year.

i love how there are a ton of articles stating how Jaylen Brown isn't scared of Lebron (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2710707-jaylen-brown-says-he-isnt-afraid-of-lebron-james-calls-him-a-regular-guy). Maybe he will score 11 points tonight!!!!
Brown kind of reminds me of Butler when he first started going up against LeBron with that high confidence. Now today LeBron says one of the hardest if not the hardest player for him to go up against is Butler because of how great his defense and effort is. I'm honestly pulling for this kid and Bos. I can't stand LeBron or the Cavs and it'd be cool to see C's win after what happened with Thomas' sister.

Feeling like the Celts got a shot here, at least a much closer game. They started 1-15 from the 3 point line. If they hit their open shots this is within 5 points going into the 4th
loaded up on Cavs -5.5. May add little more cause i'm not sure Cavs mail it in in the 4th this time

  i would defer to some of the Celtics fans in here, and i believe them when they say they have seen hints of quality play. But holy hell, i don't see it. i'd take Robert Covington and his older age over Brown pretty happily

Come on man.  Take the homer glasses off and move on with your life.

And Trust me like I said above I'd take Robin Lopez over Okafor. I can see glimpses of it though

Can we just skip to the finals right now, that way both the Cavs and Warriors are completely healthy and we have no excuses about injuries or suspensions? The Celtics might not come within 10 points of winning a game and without Kawhi the Spurs have the same problem.

i hope for Celtics fans that this team just got worn down by Was, because it looks like this team has no heart. they are out-matched, and this gimick of not needing a defensive guy in the paint is kind of biting them back, but still they just have quit written all over them

This why NBA Basketball has become boring and why I hated the Super Teams from day 1. Go back to Jordan Era where guys hated to play with each other and wanted to beat each other. To much friendliness these days. I haven't really watched a minute since Chi was eliminated.

Do you also want those dang kids to stay off your lawn?

Wait you hate super teams but then want to go back to the era where a guy won 6 titles in 6 years he played?

Not watching the Spurs/GSW game tonight. Too depressing. Just hope it's not a sweep. Will watch the finals though, and root for the Cavs.

Cleveland would win the east even without James.

I will be shocked if the finals don't go seven games.  Cleveland has too many shooters and interchangeable parts they can put in from their bench

I agree on the super teams, but the hated thing is over rated. You can still have good series and playoffs even though the players are friends.

it's Boston, might just be a matter of time before the racial slurs come flying...
I don't think people realize how racist Boston is frankly. I have family there and a cousin who works for Lockheed Martin (Office is 2 miles from Aaron Hernandez house) and he couldn't believe some of the language racially used up there. it's not just towards blacks either it's Irish, Italians you name it.

The NBA is fixed anyway. They'll make sure that series goes 7 if they have to help it go 7. They know eyeballs will be watching it and they want to cash in on that series as much as possible.

Are you technically a racist if you hate everyone?

Well I'm not talking pure hatred I mean from a competitive stand point. Offseason all those guys were friends went Golfing etc but you didn't see them act like friends throughout the series and glad hand each other like everyone today does. My other issue is the rules overall in the NBA catering to more offense and other things. I'd love to get a thread going if enough people are interested in how to change the NBA from a rules standpoint and other things.

I don't know. Racist and racism is thrown around so much anymore no one really knows what it really means. That's a totally different can of worms I don't want to get into because I could debate that all night. Working in retail you see a lot of things on all sides of that too.

I think the Celtics are going to need a little more than Hayward and Fultz to compete with the Cavs.
they will need more then Hayward and Fultz to compete with 1/3 of the East next year. I heard some people joke about how this Boston coach was a bit of a one trick pony, and i have no idea, but it doesn't seem they are doing much in this series

I won't either but thats more so I got work early tomorrow and only had 3 hrs sleep last night with a busy day tomorrow then going to a party later for a co worker leaving.
Luckily for you they will replay it at 6pm PST.  Everyone here promises not to spoil the results.
