Ben Wallace is a separate case.  He went undrafted, and the Pistons were his third team.  Technically the Pistons traded for him, but he was really free agent compensation when ORL signed Grant Hill.  

Or take LeBron James to Miami.  That transaction was technically a trade - CLE got four draft picks from MIA and the transaction is written in league history as a trade - but most think of it as a free agent signing.

I don't think the Pacers were a great team at all.  They were Reggie Miller and Rik Smits.  I think Toronto is a better team.  But there's no way to prove it.  The Knicks were a similar team to the Pacers.  For some reason they did better when Ewing was out.  The Cavs were worse than either of those two teams.

Come on man. The Davis boys? Mark Jackson? Derrick McKey? Byron Scott? That was a very very good team that played well on both ends, played well as a team, and could beat you in several different ways.

 
It's almost incredibly at how Golden State almost never plays teams in the playoffs who are at full strength. And how many players go down with injury while playing them.

 
What are the numbers for the two totally uninteresting conference final series? Two four games sweeps coming with only one relatively close game. Have to be way down don't they?

The NBA finals start on Thursday, June 1st. If GS sweeps the Spurs, they can have 10 days off; Cleveland will have 9 days off. 

I know the TV night matters for ratings (Thursday and Sunday's are the best days), and this series has all the makings of a classic, but there should be no layoffs more than 5 days.

I always thought Thursday's were supposed to be really good, but game 2 is Friday and there have been other Friday games when Thursday's were possible so not totally sure about that anymore

Last year was your epic finals.  We won't get another one of those of course I am a Cleveland fan so I am biased on last year.  This year I see no possibly way the Cavs beat the Warriors.  When you add Durant to the team that had come off a 73 win regular season the year before it pretty much was all over the day Durant signed with the Warriors.  The Cavs are going to have to fight hard to just win 1 game in the series.  LeBron has a record 29 straight series with at least 1 road win the last such series without one was in 2009 vs Orlando.  LeBron is going to have a tough time getting a road win in this one.

Cleveland can win. They are loaded. James is the best player on the floor. Irving and Love are really good, and they have great shooting (Korver and Smith).

It won't be easy as you mentioned with Durant now in the mix.

Star power though, looking forward to it.

I think the winner will need to win 2 road games.

 
As a Golden State fan I'm not nearly as confident as some (here and in the media) about their chances versus Cleveland. I still think they'll win but I doubt it will be in dominating fashion. LeBron is just on another level and the rest of his team has gotten better as well. Yes, the Warriors have Durant, but it's a case where a bunch of good players will have to overcome one great player and his entourage. One thing that really gives me pause is Iguodala, even though he played tonight, doesn't seem like the player he was in March and I don't know that all this time off is going to help necessarily. They'll obviously need him in top form vs. James.

One other thing is the Warriors have a tendency to think too much when things get tight. Not that they choke in the classical sense, in fact last year they were the best clutch team of all time, just that psychologically there is still doubt in the back of their minds, maybe like LeBron was four or five years ago. The only guy who doesn't play like that is Draymond Green who is also the only Warrior who played well in game 7 last year. Man, I hope he is still practicing those threes because when he is hitting those they really are unstoppable.

Whatever the case may be this is shaping up to be an epic Finals. I can't wait but I am definitely nervous, as compared to a year ago when I thought they'd sweep.

I like Cleveland to win against Golden State. Lebron will be the best player on the court, IMO by a good margin. I think fans are going to be rewarded with an epic series after all the duds so far in these playoffs.

I doubt they do much this year except match Simmons if his offer is reasonable (no offer will be nuts because he is Arenas-limited), sign re-sign Mills if he has a tepid market, and re-sign Ginobili on a one year deal if he wants to play one more season. Next offseason they only have Aldridge (last year of his deal), Leonard, Murray and Green (play option) on the books. They'll be able to go in a lot of different directions at that point.

So, maybe they are done as title contenders for next season, but in 18-19 they could be totally reloaded.

Problem with that is 1) George makes all NBA next year, and he is staying in Indy, or 2) some other team makes a move for him and he re-ups with them rather than go play for a lousy Laker team

 
The thing is that for right now the only draw to the Lakers for a FA is the city they are in. Maybe the history if someone gives a s*** about that kind of thing. Which I doubt many people do when you're talking millions of dollars. It might be rough for the Lakers for a while.

I am not sure I agree.  The Cavs are actually the better 3-point shooting team this year, and I don't see any way that the Warriors stop James.  He can pretty much drive to the hoop all day, and if they collapse to stop him, he will kick it out to their marksmen for open 3s.  Ultimately, it will come down to whichever team hits more 3s, and the Warriors have more star power in that regard, but the Cavs have a bunch of guys who can make shots, too. 

 
Warriors are -230 and Cavs +180 for the title. Warriors obviously favored, but it's not crazy high. Puts Warriors around 70% to win.

It is kind of funny that the last year has been a giant waste if time just to get back for round 3. That's why Lebron and company didn't give a #### about #1 seed vs getting well rested for the rematch. They know they need to be 100% to repeat. 

Can't wait for June 1st. Just another 11 days till the NBA season truly begins.

The 73-win team added Kevin Durant but are doubting themselves.  May as well put LeBron at G.O.A.T. right now and have Kerr call Jordan and tell him why.
