***2016 MLB Playoff thread: Cubs win for first time since sliced bread hit market (2 Viewers)

Trying to prevent him from bleeding out and dying in front of 50,000 people?

Otherwise, there's got to be something about uncontrolled bleeding, much like a guy has to leave a hockey/basketball game with blood.
Yea I'm curious. There is a rule where you can't have a foreign substance on your pitching hand. But I don't know the exact wording. Who determines whether something (i.e., blood) is a foreign substance?

Francona didn't seem to protest much.

So do they bring in tomorrow's starter, Merritt, and go to Kluber almost no matter what tomorrow?  A few circumstances in which that could be prevented (Tribe win with Merritt going 4 or 5 for example).

Does anyone know the exact rule for why he had to come out of the game?
I don't think a pitcher can have anything on his throwing arm/hand that is not part of the uniform. I am guessing this includes bandages, which would have been necessary to stop that bleeding.

TOR scored 5, 10, 5, and 7 before this series in the playoffs.  So far in 24 innings this series they have 3.  BOS was supposed to murder CLE pitching too.  Maybe TOR stinks, but the CLE pitching has been great.  Much like Sept, Aug, Jul...

Combination of both. Cleveland pitching, particularly relievers have been very very good and Jays hitting has run hot and cold all season and is cold now. Jays have been completely dominated so far.

I said it is exactly like they hit most if September - which it is. Especially the first 2 weeks. I suffered through every game. This is not that much of an aberration.

Not saying Cleveland pitchers havent been good.

I think what you are missing is that we freaking HATE the Boston Red Sox.   Being down 3-0 obviously sucks right now but losing to Boston would feel 10x worse.
I don't have any sort of hate on for Cleveland. They've just been the better team. They're not #######s like KC. There's no pent up revenge nonsense like with Texas. There isn't the divisional history/animosity like with Boston, Baltimore or the Yankees. The worst thing about Cleveland is their terrible name and logo but that doesn't really affect me

Completely agree.  They are playing great, and owning the Jays.   Hats off to them.  No anger at all.

I was told Toronto didn't want to face Boston because of how they did in the regular season.  It didn't have anything with hating the team.

With as much as Francona is having to milk that bullpen, I have to think there's even more pressure than what would be normal to try to finish this thing in 4 or 5. Tonight, really. Burning Kluber tonight, and maybe another inning or two of Miller, without a W would be about as bad a spot as you could be in up 3-1 in a series (without facing LeBron James, of course).

It's cliche, of course, but the Jays win tonight, and this whole series changes rapidly.
