***2016 MLB Playoff thread: Cubs win for first time since sliced bread hit market (2 Viewers)

Backed up to the rewatch the shallow fly to center.

CF did stop to look around before throwing but threw home anyway.

Hurt CLE that the bases were loaded.  P broke to back up home as soon as the ball was hit, 1B ran to cover first since the runner on first broke for second on contact.  If first base is open, 1B runs to the mound and probably cuts off the throw to the plate - still would have doubled off Schwarber easily.

ETA: 2B should have been more help on telling CF where to throw, but the ball was so shallow 2B was still running out after it even as CF was under it.

From 15-20 feet behind 2nd?

There's no hitting the cutoff man there, especially considering there wasn't one there.
If bases are loaded and I'm the CF on that ball I have no thought of the guy on second.  None.  You are looking to throw the ball at least to the home plate cut (1st baseman usually) and prevent a run from scoring.

You guys who think that should have been a double play are really armchair athletes, the runner on second is not a concern at all.

All I said is that there's no hitting the cutoff man. 1 because you don't when you can get it home on the fly and 2 BECAUSE HE WASNT ####### THERE

Loading the bases with no outs against Kluber and Miller and not getting a run, can't be a good harbinger for the Cubs.  Even making it 3-1 would have done wonders for their confidence against Miller.

That ball would have fallen in front of you so the force at second would have been the percentage play

Calm down there Rockaction.

Davis made a great play.   Looking up and charging hard he is thinking about cutting the runner down at the plate..and he would have.
Davis made a great play and watching it live my reaction was "what a great run-preventing throw".  If I was Francona I wouldn't even bring up what was going on with Schwarber - Davis made the smart play and did it well.  I don't want my CF hesitating there to look around and see if the runner on second is an idiot.

In a one run game you're thinking home all the way. Up 3-0 that second run is probably a little more important than the first run. Even if the run scores when you throw to second, it's 3-1 with 2 outs man on first.

Come on guys.. Throwing home is the correct play for the center fielder.  He is absolutely keyed in on stopping the run at the plate.

Nope, you are thinking home all the way regardless of the score.  Not only is it not in the flow of baseball, but no one is ever looking at 2nd in that situation because the guy has to be a complete dope to be running.  Someone needed to yell to Davis to throw the ball, and it didn't happen.  Actually some of you guys were probably yelling at your TVs, he should have listened.

Obviously Joe Buck is extraordinarily unlikable. Cubs fans on Facebook, rabidly foaming at the mouth while they type out their hatred of him, almost makes me think he's not so bad.
