2017-18 NBA (Playoffs): A gasping, wheezing thread begs message board poster arguing how Jordan never lost a Finals to just let it die in peace (1 Viewer)

So 20 minutes to tip off of the final four in Europe. I need a life. I've put in a few hours educating myself. The price for tickets is nutty. The worst seats are $400. The best are 4 grand. There are no other prices. You sit high in the arena behind the baskets for 400. You sit on the first level between the baskets for 4 grand. I could have this wrong, but I looked carefully for today's two games. Afaict it's not assigned seating so you pay for the section and sit in it where you want.

You can watch the best teams on earth in their semifinals for less than 300 Sunday. Good seats are 5. Practically on the floor for 2 grand.

These games are in Serbia. The Istanbul and Lithuanian coaches addressed their teams in English. The arena announce is introducing the starters in English, but my stream in in Spanish. Belgrade sounds like a home game for the Turks.

Just my opinion but I would rather have a top 12 player and an average coach rather than Stevens and an average player.  Assume the rest of the roster is an average NBA roster like the Pistons.

Antetokounmpo + current Pistons roster + average coach

or

Current Pistons roster + Stevens

Yeah I thought that discussion was stoopid. I like Stevens but he's being sensationalized a bit. Thanks Jayrod.

IIRC, all officials in FIBA, court and table, must communicate in English in games played between teams from countries that speak different languages.

I must have not sent every one the memo, but since that team didn't get to keep their pick they are dead to this topic until January.

It would be like talking about how well a 6th grader is going to do in the NBA.

These teams would do very well in the ncaa tournament. It's like taking a bunch of ncaa players who didn't sniff the nba draft and watching them play in their late 20s (primes). It's a good product and eurocrowds rule. You could probably make a little money betting on the team with the most African Americans, not African Euros.

Kostas Sloukas is the best player in the court. Could probably run alright with Orlando's 2nd unit.

eta He's taking over on both ends.

This Vesely guy was drafted by the Wizards in 2011 when he was 21. 7 years later and he's just a shade behind Cody Zeller. I thought I'd see great shooting like we do in International ball. No. These guys are as behind in that department as they are athletically. Getting a better feel for why Teodosic looked so good on Youtube and is such a joke in Staples. Also downgrading Doncic before seeing him.

Halftime 39-33 Istanbul in control but within reach.

Only allowed two on the court but some countries like Russia give out citizenship to international athletes like Antigua gives out drivers licenses.

End of the first quarter Moscow leads 30-20

I've watched Doncic the whole time. He's not explosive but he has some quicks. He's got nice handles. He's weak defensively at this level. I thought he was taller than 6-6. He'd be better if he was 6-9. 6-6 guys need to be athletic beasts in the nba, right? No telling on his shot from one quarter but he hit a three and missed a three. He enjoys a refreshing understanding of which hand to shoot with.

Bust. Read a report today that said he lacks athleticism at the level he’s presently at. Oh.....ok.

Doncic may be a great youtube passer but he plays an iso game. He gets it and goes one on one most offensive possessions. It isn't leading to many points. I think he has 7 of Madrid's 42.

eta: He's got this Harden thing going on and is pretty good getting past the first defender and to the rim drawing fouls.

Leaning strongly this way while reminding myself he's 19. I'm wondering where some of this praise I've read comes from. Ben Simmons could chop of one of his hands (his choice if he could decide) and be better than Doncic.

We might have to file Commish's report for a future draft.

"I don’t know if these are my last two games in Europe. I am still weighing my options and I will make that decision at the end of the season," Doncic said in a news conference on Thursday.

He's stepped up nicely to close the 3rd quarter. Madrid in control as an underdog and he's the best player out there. Nothing that thrills me about nba potential but he's doing his thing.

granted i don't listen to many NBA podcasts but i thought Lowe and Simmons could be interesting and at least somewhat reasoned

nope

"Tatum is the best rookie in Celtics history since Bird....",  "he's in the conversation for MVP in the next 12 years..."

is there any decent NBA coverage out there?

If you were hoping for decent, reasoned coverage of a Celtics series with Simmons involved, that’s kind of on you.

Open floor podcast is great.

i've wanted to try "the Lowe post", just haven't gotten to it yet. a lot of people have talked favorably of JJ Reddick's podcast, but not sure it touches on NBA coverage like sports media guys do

That's what I saw for the highlight clip I saw of him (yay, I scout!!!)....reminds me of Lonzo Ball but with a legit jumper. However, Lonzo didn't stand out athletically compared to NCAA players....Luka doesn't stand out athletically white dudes. So that's a major red flag.

Is that somehow a controversial hot take?
reeks of recency bias. and maybe as a standalone comment not so noticeable but when backed with "he'll be an MVP in the next 12 years" the stench of hot takery is too strong

i mean, Paul Pierce was OK. Antoine Walker went for 18 and 9 his rookie year.Ron Mercer had similar stats. Kevin McHale has been drafted since.

but after looking at the murderer's row of draft picks since Bird.... yikes.
