2017-18 NBA (Playoffs): A gasping, wheezing thread begs message board poster arguing how Jordan never lost a Finals to just let it die in peace (2 Viewers)

Nobody gets butt hurt so knock it off.  The reality is that once a conversation about the refs begin, it goes on for pages with homers on each side arguing against with each other about who got it worse.  It makes this thread horrible to read, and not in the secretly delightful way all the playoff posters and their hot takes make it horrible every year.  Do you really enjoy arguing about refs back and forth?  Because nobody wants to read it.  It's awful.
Can we just have a non-homer give their ref assessment after each game? It would save some time and there's plenty of posters in this thread who's teams haven't played for awhile.

I am not a homer of any of these teams and think the refs have done just fine.

I am honored to have received likes in this thread. Just based on the playoffs we have at least 4 NBA caliber GM's in here, 5 NBA caliber coaches, 30 NBA caliber refs and 3 that could do all 3 jobs at the same time. It is fantastic!
i blame it on the Celtics having a successful playoffs.

it's weird how this it seems specific to basketball. i imagine most in here aren't fans of just basketball, so do we think it drag into other sports? I guess it is because there are so many opportunities and scoring plays. We all know there is holding in the NFL, and are all glad it isn't called all the time.

if i had to develop a theory on it, i would blame it on the refs reinforcing the flops and griping of players. if they officiated not based on crowd reactions or reactions of players maybe that would help the overall perception.

with that said, i love plays like this:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghLbUVeMJiI

ETA: though i guess refs do that in all sports, so

I just watched back the entire 2016 NBA Finals game 7 every second of it from start to finish.  Kyrie was so huge in this game and those last 3 games.  It is just such a shame that it came down to him wanting to leave.  I will never understand why and never understand why Gilbert let our GM who built this championship team David Griffin go and as soon as he did Kyrie wanted out.  David Griffin said on NBA TV this year that he felt if he was still the GM he could have made it work with LeBron and Kyrie.  As soon as Kyrie left I knew it was over for this team and I knew LeBron was gone after this year.  They had a chance to figure it out to make some moves to bring in 1 more key piece to give them a chance to compete this year and then LeBron would stay but Kyrie leaving that was it.  Then they trade him for compete garbage.  Pick 8 for Kyrie that is awful.

Now as for tonight you have no Love and this is 2008 all over again when Celts beat the Cavs in game 7 despite LeBron scoring 45 at Boston.  In 2008 the home team won every game and LeBron had a bunch of cast off teammates with no all-stars just like he will tonight.

LeBron is 1 of the greatest players of all time and accomplished maybe the greatest feat in basketball history bringing back the Cavs down 3-1 against a 73 win GS team that was 50-3 at home beating them twice there and winning a game 7 in the finals for the first time since 1978...but........Today it will be too much against a team that is 10-0 at home in Boston that despite missing it's top 2 players LeBron and his band of scrubs will not get it done.

I give it 10% chance.  Hope I am wrong.  Once LeBron leaves this year I will be devastated but will always remember that 2016 season.  I won't hate him for leaving this time like I did the first time which proved to be the right move for LeBron.

Cavs were worst team in NBA for those 4 years he was gone and he then won a championship with them.  Truly incredible.

JFC, move on.

Not a homer at all and generally dislike the Rockets.

I thought GSW got away with a dozen or so questionable no-calls from about the end of the first half to the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Rockets were aggressive to the hoop (Gordon in particular) and were contacted a lot without whistles. Did not appear to be consistent on both sides of the ball IMO.

If I was a Rockets homer I would have been screaming at the TV for sure.

And then around May, Dez, everyone with Ghost in their name, all the fringe LeBron fans and Warrior haters will come back and complain about the refs, tell us the NBA is rigged, and that Warriors are going to win the next 18 NBA championships and no one else ever had a chance.

I thought the Warriors benefited from a lot of non-calls too.  Equal foul calls/free throws is never a good measure on the quality of officiating.

Even non-homers can't agree.

Being a referee at any level of basketball is very difficult.  On top of that you have grown men who jump up and down crying after every call, and millions of people who have the benefit of super slow motion breakdown of your calls, and it's a no-win situation for these refs.

I think they are doing a great job overall.  99% of the people complaining about the refs have never reffed a game themselves.  So who cares if they think the refs suck?

Good post, I think we care because they come in here and complain about it so much that they take up 3 pages at a time.

Senior referees can earn up to $500k a year.  There is no reason any of them should stink with that type of earning potential.

None of them stink.   I reffed 3 years in the Newport Beach Summer league.  Scott Brooks played in it. Many top college players did also. The speed at which they play is quite amazing and very hard to ref.

Plus they are all trying to draw a foul. So not only do refs have to keep up with these athletes they also have to figure out who is flopping and who isn't.

Apparently playing in Boston means every cavs player other than Lebron can't shoot worth a ####
LeBron has taken some bad shots as well and his defense, well lack of has led to like 10 points on easy buckets. Cavs should be happy it is this close.
