2017-18 NBA (Playoffs): A gasping, wheezing thread begs message board poster arguing how Jordan never lost a Finals to just let it die in peace (2 Viewers)

He never really had a chance because Kerr wouldn't play him for some inexplicable reason, even during the regular season. He's really only had meaningful minutes in the last two games. Why? Nobody knows.

Anyways, it's all roses now but it was a mistake by Kerr. The only thing I can think of is he thought Bell was getting too big for his britches passing to himself for dunks off the backboard and whatnot. Hopefully the grumpy old man learned his lesson.
Could be, but Kerr doesn't seem like a coach who minds a little swagger. I think it's just as simple as Looney doing well during the regular season with Bell's minutes (even now he's been solid). Honestly if Iggy is healthy, Bell wouldn't be needed.

They were missing shots and had shots blocked early in the quarter and then with 7 minutes to go they were down 20. That will kind of kill your attempt to try to win the game.

Plus they were tired you could see it happening in the 3rd quarter. They only played 6 guys for the entire game up to that point.
I mean, I get it. I just bet on a lot of NBA basketball and I've seen no name NBA players compete harder than the athletes we saw tonight in the 4th quarter. I've seen scrubs on the Hornets and Magic hustling more in meaningless game than the superstars tonight.

It's either fake or the players are so complacent to go home to play Game 7 at home, they deserve to lose to the Warriors again.

I am sorry you lost money.

He would have never posted had he won money.
What is it any of your business? The point is I've watched hundreds of hours of NBA this season and what I'm telling you is what you saw in the 4th quarter was not on the up and up.

I don't post in the NBA thread to talk about winning and losing money gambling. Come find me in the wagering thread.

All I'm saying is I've never seen a team up 17 points and only be a -120 favorite.

That's just disrespectful.

I get it, but everyone knew a huge run was coming. And nobody can score in quick bunches like GS. Backs against the wall. Win at home or season is over. They got a wake up call at halftime started playing D and got hot.

This not on the up and up stuff is BS. Sorry.

The Warriors played great in the second half and would have won anyway, but the officiating was terrible in all directions.

Fouls were 16 HOU and 17 GSW.

Warriors got away with some fouls and Harden got a few freebies. All in all, the officiating didn't stand out to me.

There were tons of 3 point fouls, but like Reggie said...blame Zaza.

The number of called fouls is a stupid proxy for what should have been called particularly because the problem was in fouls NOT called.  Eric Gordon got mauled repeatedly and Harden did too.  WHatever.  As I said, Warriors were likely to win anyway.  I expect them to win the series even now because they are the better overall team but I'm glad this wasn't a 4 point game in the end.

I get that, but really didn't see much that stuck out. Dubs got away with some hacks, but it Harden got a few freebies too. Thought it evened out, but I'm a homer so who knows.

The refs have been letting these guys play more physical the entire series....just see what Curry goes through off the ball.

Fair point.  Curry and Green also tackle their man on D most of the time. It's interesting what it does to the dynamic.  Honestly, it feels like whichever of the final 4 teams is most healthy is going to win the title.  This last two weeks has been a slugfest all around.

I have no idea what this means.  Are you saying the NBA is fixed?  If so, we already know this.  It's not news.

Exactly.  This guy gets it.  The games were called one way all season (free flowing, not overly physical) and now in the playoffs it has been WWE.

This makes me think you don't even watch the games.
Seriously?   In game 1 of this series, Curry was bear-hugging Rockets players on screens.  Repeatedly.  The refs didn't call any of it until the 3rd or 4th quarter of game 1, at which point Curry picked up 3 fouls in about 5 minutes.  He seemed truly shocked by all 3 fouls at that point.  But if you don't remember him bear-hugging guys in game 1, then you haven't watched ####.

Rockets screeners (usually the guy guarding Curry) bear hug the defender every time to force the switch.  On the other end, Rockets defenders, happy to play the switch, bear hug the screener to avoid the slips.  It's pretty ugly basketball.

I am honored to have received likes in this thread. Just based on the playoffs we have at least 4 NBA caliber GM's in here, 5 NBA caliber coaches, 30 NBA caliber refs and 3 that could do all 3 jobs at the same time. It is fantastic!

Lol at complaining about officiating. Watched the entire 2nd half last night, nothing was egregious.  Warriors just do what they do. They more than any team I have watched I my life can put together runs to score bunches of points faster than anyone.

They were not hitting their 3s in the first half but did in the 2nd. They just keep jacking them up and don’t give two ####s.

I agree 100% and have been vocal in this thread about how ugly basketball is when the NBA / refs decide this is how it will be.    Sadly, that perspective is verboten in here and people get all butt-hurt about reality-based observations.

It's just regression to the mean.  My son was really upset when the Warriors were down early, so we had a nice talk about process variance.

Shocking reply.  It isn't about a single half - it's about a systemic change to officiating the playoffs versus the regular season.

Harden pushes off more than anyone in the history of the league. rarely gets called for it.  He did it 3 times on that one play where he got his shot blocked. There's a difference between protecting the ball and pushing off and Harden is great at barely crossing the line and getting away with a ton.

Yeah, I would say that watching the 2nd half live did feel like there may have been some calls that Houston could have gotten when they kept trying to go to the hoop (though may have just been great D by Draymond), but Houston really should never cry about being the "victim" of the refs.

Nobody gets butt hurt so knock it off.  The reality is that once a conversation about the refs begin, it goes on for pages with homers on each side arguing against with each other about who got it worse.  It makes this thread horrible to read, and not in the secretly delightful way all the playoff posters and their hot takes make it horrible every year.  Do you really enjoy arguing about refs back and forth?  Because nobody wants to read it.  It's awful.

All the likes.

I haven't argued that "one side got it worse."  I'm arguing that the massive shift in officiating strategy from regular season to playoffs has made the game less fun as a fan.  And this isn't really a controversial statement.  There is a reason the late 90s/early 00s sucked as a fan.

Yes, that's exactly what is happening here.
It is.  You aren't even being honest about what I'm saying.  You keep lumping my comments in with people complaining about a specific call hurting their team in a moment.  That isn't what I've said, but you keep repeating the same tired bull####.

I actually wanted to complain about the refs letting things get out of hand in ECF game 6. But nobody actually died on the court so it was probably OK.
