Agreed. The league needs to step in.Doesnt seem fair imo.

If they trade for him before July 1 I'm not sure he'd have to opt in first.Because they traded for him after he opted in. As a true FA he would have passed up tens of millions.
edit: Saw this was already clarified. My bad, started this before hopping on a work call.
News flash: Lebron James isn't enough to put them - or any team - over the Warriors. But strange things CAN happen and if they are able to add Melo, George, Millsap, or one other high quality player then they are that much closer. The Rockets should be fun to watch, no doubt. I just don't think Paul is enough to put them over the Warriors.

Woj made it clear that the trade was following his official opt-in with LA so I assume there was a specific reason for doing so.If they trade for him before July 1 I'm not sure he'd have to opt in first.
Yeah, I like this logic. They both play well with the ball in their hand but neither seems like the type to demand it at all times, and like you say this allows them to have one or the other on the floor for 48 minutes.Paul and Harden are a terrible fit, but they gave up a mediocre starting PG, a couple of backups, and a first round pick that isn't going to be worth hardly anything. They can figure out how they fit later. Harden and Paul should both be able to play off ball well if their egos allow and they'll probably only play together for 20mpg or so.
Ask me again in six months if Rivers at 2/$22M (player option in year 2) is a bad contract.Austin Rivers likes this post.
Morey is enough of a witch that it certainly isn't out of the realm of possibility.Add one of those 3 and LeBron signs for vet minimum after next year would put them over warriors.
It would make my life easier that way I would only have to root for one teamMorey is enough of a witch that it certainly isn't out of the realm of possibility.
I agree completely that looking at Harden's recent season and Paul's historical play it is a very odd match. The first thing that comes to mind is career extension for Paul. By not being the guy playing pinball in the lane all the time he might be able to extend his career a meaningful amount of time. Second, and I've been saying this for a while, but Houston is one of the largest urban areas in the country and has a MASSIVE TV base. A ton of NBA players live there in the offseason which always makes me wonder why they struck out in FA during the McGrady years. No, it's not LA but it's not like Paul chose the Bucks. But as much as I'm a Rockets homer and want this to work, I can't think of a lot of reasons why it should unless Paul wants to shoot more unguarded threes and stop getting double-teamed the moment he touches the ball. Why would Paul want to play with Harden? What does he see in Houston that he doesn't see in San Antonio or OKC or half a dozen other teams?
https://twitter.com/WindhorstESPN/status/880117818410381312Rockets are in midst of painting salary-cap manipulation masterpiece and there's a horde of teams involved or trying to get involved.
https://twitter.com/WindhorstESPN/status/880118990860931072Rockets telling teams they've been in talks with they've assembled needed pieces to execute Paul trade. Headed to league office for approval
Usually when a point guard wants to extend his career, he picks a place where he won't have to cover for his teammate's defensive liabilities every night.I agree completely that looking at Harden's recent season and Paul's historical play it is a very odd match. Maybe the idea is to get someone that Harden will respect to push him to be better? Not only do you get a great player, but a team leader that will make the rest of them better and teach Harden how to be a pro.I cant count the number of times I have seen Chris Paul get angry when one of his teammates misses a defensive assignment. How many times do you think he is going to have to see Harden play his olé defense before he goes Artest on him?
BREAKING: Sources tell me Kings to sign Serb guard Bogdan Bogdanovic to 3 year/$36 million contract on July 6.
LeBron has said several times that he wouldn't take less than he is worth after doing it the 1st time in Miami.Add one of those 3 and LeBron signs for vet minimum after next year would put them over warriors.
Houston sold him a pitch about him being the first piece on the chess board. Paul liked what he heard and now get ready for the rest of the moves. Why would Paul want to play with Harden? What does he see in Houston that he doesn't see in San Antonio or OKC or half a dozen other teams?
I'll take Smith's ceiling over Ntilikina's.Based on the fact he was an 18 year old 6'6" with a 7'0" reach PG that held up well playing against men last year. He may flame out if his offense doesn't develop, but analytically guys with his athletic characteristics have high upsides.

Mark dan tonyf it i hope houston pulls this off i dont like anyone on that team and if they are going to play cobrai kai dojo than hell yeah play it to the hilt hire johnny and have him do what za za did and sweep the leg on all of the warrior starters get em a body bag and then the bucks can beat hou in the finals and send crap beard packing and then jason kidd will make mark dan tony smash out some windows in the parking lot and say man confront you on street he is enemy but then just honk his nose and that will be the most epic burn ever and will be the reason that people leave one chair empty during thanksgiving take that to the bank bromigos
. Pure genius. The Bulls got a defender (who is an even worse shooter) and a player whose game is predicated on leaping/explosiveness that has a torn ACL and is up for an extension before they can even see him play. The draft picks are a wash. The fact that it's even comparable is a joke considering Butler is an all-NBA two-way player with 2 freaking years left on a team-friendly deal. What exactly did the Clips get in this trade? A defender & a 6th man? Give me what the Bulls got from the Wolves over this pile the Rockets sent.
Never trust a man with three first names.Mark dan tony. Pure genius.
Everything I have read is he wants to stay in NY. NYK won't buy him out.Rumors are now that Carmelo wants to be bought out so he can join Houston. If that happens can he be signed for the min, since the Knicks are paying his salary? If so that could be interesting if the Rockets can get Melo AND someone else.
This is a game of chicken.Everything I have read is he wants to stay in NY. NYK won't buy him out.
I think NYK would rather sit him until he waives his NTC than accomodate him. This is a game of chicken.
So, what, everyone in Houston just shares this supposed gigantic TV?Houston is one of the largest urban areas in the country and has a MASSIVE TV
Care to elaborate? So, what, everyone in Houston just shares this supposed gigantic TV?
Houston is a dump. Sorry. Paul's taking his best shot at getting to the Finals, that's pretty much the long and short of it.
We will see after he most likely loses again to the warriorsLeBron has said several times that he wouldn't take less than he is worth after doing it the 1st time in Miami.
He's really just buying himself a year with the best shot of a championship until all his buddies are also FAs.So, what, everyone in Houston just shares this supposed gigantic TV?

He didn't take less to come back to Cleveland after losing to the Spurs. We will see after he most likely loses again to the warriors
1-1 with the spurs though(on the heat)He didn't take less to come back to Cleveland after losing to the Spurs.![]()
Nope. I think four is the optimal number of words to devote to the subject.Care to elaborate?
That means Houston still has the non-guarantees of Quaterman and Kelly (at a minimum)Source: Terms of Clippers-Rockets deal: For @CP3, Houston sends Williams, Beverley, Dekker, Liggins, Hilliard, Harrell, Wiltjer, FRP + $661K
Is Harrell in the deal? I didn't see his name...Someone mentioned earlier that Thornwell felt like a Jerry West pick. Beverly and Harrell (to a lesser extent) also feel the same.
He's also the VP of the player's union, and a player who is aware of his place in history and how often stars are compared (often unfairly) to their predecessors. He's not gonna doom an entire generation of NBA stars to having to hear about how LeBron sacrificed a huge percentage of his salary in his prime. He didn't take less to come back to Cleveland after losing to the Spurs.![]()
Oh I missed this fun rumor a couple days ago. It was discussed around the trade deadline.Minny wants rid of Rubio for maybe Mr October Reggie Jackson?
what page has this been discussed on?
