They are way ahead of schedule in the rebuild, get a grip.i hope so, but Trader Danny was on Boston's leading morning show - which he calls in to every Thurs AM during the season - and, being familiar with what he can & cant talk about, the hosts asked him if there were any potential deals that hinged on what the Celts would be able to sign in free agency and Danny seemed genuinely mystified as to what that might mean, so....
i just know i'm tired of this whole thing - several years, three drafts & two trade deadlines since the FLEECING OF THE NETS and all we've gotten is two rotation players and at least 19 trashbagsful of WTF?!?! If Stevens wasn't a coach who shows me new work & concepts virtually every game, i'd be thinking about the Turnin' In o' the :X Green

No kidding...reminds of those "experts" that used to question BB's moves...they have gone from 25 to 40 to 48 to 52 wins and still have a ton of ways to improve...I don't see how anyone can't have faith in what Ainge/Stevens are doing...

I'm not as high on IT as most. But he's certainly more than a rotation player. Also way too early to know what Brown is. Maybe too early with Smart too. Way, way too early on Tatum of course. I think the Celtics today are in a much better position than the Celtics were the day after the trade with the Nets. Partly because the day after the trade with the Nets no one thought we'd be talking about a 3rd pick and a 1st pick. Most people were thinking in a great for Boston scenario those picks might be later lottery selections. You can buy a mid second round pick for a bag of peanuts. Chicago can get one back for basically nothing if they want to.The Warriors just played two of them in the Finals, one of them starting and the other a rookie. I'll happily take another

Honestly I hate the buyouts of contracts or the fact teams can just trade for a guys contract to reach a certain cap hit or closer to it without signing and keeping players. I think that's just a horrible loophole that allows some teams to get over the Cap Floor without signing enough players and being completive at the very least. I'd make it you can only buyout one player per every 2 or so years and if said player plays elsewhere you should have to pay a certain percentage the new team of said contract he had. I think that would help stop teams loading up on Buyouts. Forces more competitiveness by teams and forces teams to actual suck on their own instead of helping the cause. I really never noticed how bad this loophole was until the 76ers started doing it and I guess being from Philly I noticed it more of an issue then before.

Of course he is. He'll never get anywhere near $24M from anyone else. He's not "on board" with this, he just needs to support all his kids. He'll either get bought out, traded, or sent to IR. No chance he's on the court game 82 in red and black.

Heard it's more he knows this could be his last big contract plus if he feels like Teaming with James again he can play this year in Chicago and go where ever he wants with him together next year. It was one possibility I read. Can't remember where I read it maybe Hoops Rumors or one of KC Johnson or Vicent Goodwill.

That $23M makes it a whole lot easier to take a small deal next year and subsequent years to chase another title if he even cares about that. He's got 3 titles. I'd love to be in a position where I could just show up, do my job and get paid a fortune.

They kept that team pretty much fully together the next 2-3 years. Rose's injury was the main reason that 60 win team didn't stay a 60 win team.

Although he won’t be thrilled to see Butler depart, Dwyane Wade is still picking up his player option for 2017/18, as Vincent Goodwill of CSNChicago.com tweets. Paxson suggested on Thursday night that if Wade had serious concerns about the team’s direction, he might not have exercised that option (Twitter link via Sam Smith of Bulls.com).

Not just Rose but other guys injured. Deng hurt forced Butler thankfully into the mix finally, Noah was dealing with issues, Boozer, Gibson and other guys had injuries. That team with Thibs if they added a guy who could create his own shot and force teams not to DT Rose/Butler would've been a huge threat to James and the Heat for all those years. Chicago had the personal to match up with them. A few yrs ago they played Mia in the 2nd round after they beat in the Nets in a huge First round series where Nate Robinson went off I think Chicago won the first game. it was the game after where Nazr Pushed LeBron and James had one of his EPIC FLOPS and Nazr thrown out for it. Chicago played Mia tough and despite being down multiple guys may have won that series with more personal power. People were talking about how good the Heat were but if people legit weren't drooling all over LeBron and Mia's ball sacks they'd have seen some issues. They should've swept that Chicago team that was short handed. Mia that whole year made multiple mistakes with better players Chicago would've capitalized on. The Thibs Bulls are another one of those What Could've been teams. They played tough each and every night and backed down to no one. I think LeBron and Mia are lucky that Bulls team never reached its full potential honestly.

This is the best thing for the Clippers. That team isn't winning anything and they are one of the most hated teams in the league. It is okay to be hated if you win something. Clipper fans deserve better.Poor Clippers.

You can pretty much blame the Warriors for all this. Few teams are in position to give up a bunch to win now. There's no point in it for most teams, except the Wolves who just need to finally not suck.
Boston wouldn't include the #3 or the Lakers/Kings pick (the one that the Fultz hard-on people totally poopoooed). There are no bounties for good players anymore.
Bulls and Pacers understand the inevitable. There's no point in fighting it out in the East with LeBron, Giannis, IT, and the Kemba/Monk duo for the next few years.

Boston couldn't make a move because order of operations is important here. Taking on Butler's contract makes it impoosible for them to get a max free agent. Had they been able to sign someone before the draft they would have done more to get a deal done.

I really doubt this. It seems the Boston sports media or Celtics organization themselves loves to put out reports about all of these possible trades for them. But I don't understand if the price was this low why celtics couldn't get him at trade deadline.
If Boston really wanted butler they should have just got him. Might have got to cute trying to lowball and gave to the wolves instead. No matter what, I doubt we will really ever know. But my guess is the reports are all writers needing a story or some org. Trying to sell an idea to the fanbase

They price wasn't that low at the trade deadline, if it was I'm sure somebody would have scooped him up 4 months ago. I agree that the Celtics have a habit of leaking information to the media to make it look like they are trying, but I don't think this is a case of that. If they don't get Hayward and another player via trade after free agency, these rumors are not going to sit well with the fan base.

Agree about Hayward...I think a lot of what they have planned is predicated on Hayward coming and I can almost guarantee they already know whether that is happening or not...everyone knows exactly how much money he is going to get so it is simply a matter of whether he wants to stay in Utah, go to Boston with Stevens or has eyes for someone else like Miami...I think one thing people forget (and I have mentioned before) is Hayward has already tried to leave Utah once before when he signed with Charlotte as a RFA...

Utah was low balling him and forced him to go find a deal somewhere else to set his market value. He didn't necessarily want to go somewhere else, they just didn't want to pay him an above market deal to keep him.

The Kings roster and salary situation is just silly. They only have 2 players who are not on rookie deals, and they each make $8 million, with only 1 year remaining as a player option.
They will be horrific this year (unless they somehow pull out a max FA), but it will be interesting to see what they do going forward. They had a pretty nice haul in the draft and now have a roster of young guys who at least certainly have a pedigree, though at the same time, no one who is even close to being an anticipated star. Fox/Mason could be an interesting PG pairing and Justin Jackson should be able to play a role in the NBA on the wing. Then they need to hope that Skal and Hield can build on their supposed development. And they actually do have their first-round pick next year. Will be interesting to see how they use all of this space and flexibility in the coming year.
