Honestly, truly unbelievable.  He's had to have been doing this #### his whole life and simply can't change the way his brain in wired to react.  There's really no other explanation.

And this "was this intentional?" discussion shouldn't even be debatable at this stage.  You're a potential late 1st round talent with elite athleticism.  There's no way "getting off balance" on a play like that ends in a leg kicking up (and it absolutely kicked) without intentionally doing that to a certain degree.  I gave him the benefit of the doubt, but no more.  Inexcusable.

First time State has topped 100 points in an ACC game since Feb 1991. Credit to VT, they played hard and never quit, but I don't recall when State looked as good against a quality team as they did tonight.
And in the next game, State lost at UNC by 51 points. That was as thorough of a beatdown as I can recall. I hope the team can rebound from it.

One of the worst efforts I've ever seen* by a State team.  A team with enough talent to compete should not get the doors blown off like that.  Unbelievable.

*turned it off before halftime because I was so disgusted.

I can't imagine betting on ACC games this year. How can you know who is going to beat who the way this season has started. The very bottom teams have been the top teams, and I don't think there will be many easy games.

And time a team wins on the road in conference this year is an accomplishment, IMO. I don't remember the conference being this deep top to bottom in long time.

Home team moneyline seems like the best bet so far.

What in the world happened to State that game?
Dennis Smith got two fouls before 1st TV timeout and Heels went on run. Smith came back in and got absolutely hosed on a call for his 3rd, and it was pretty much over by halftime - if not before. Without Smith, NC State had no offensive flow at all. On the other end, State's defense was just horrible. Justin Jackson is a good shooter, especially at home. No way he should be left that wide open at 3 point line as consistently as he was.

Great game for a  UNC fan; burn the tape if you're NC State. And I'm pretty certain the game in Raleigh will be completely different and come down to a last shot.

Rumor is that half the UNC roster had that stomach bug that's been going around for the Tech game.

I had it last week, and if the rumor is true I'm surprised they played basketball instead of just lying perfectly still so as not to trigger an emergency trip to the can.  That thing is no joke.

Yeah awesome for jefferson. Big bullet dodged.

With save them against fsu though.  They're huge and good and you know they'll be up for it. Could see a similar results to the VT game

Will be in Durham later this week for work - may look to just randomly trip peeps as I'm walking around.

For those that have seen Giles play pre-Duke, is this really what he has to offer or is he just a shell of his real self at the moment?

He's certainly better than this, but I never thought he was going to be a first team AA type player in his year of college. He's all tools and potential, other than his rebounding, which when he's healthy, is an elite skill. I thought a healthy Giles would be a 12 and 10 type of guy in college as a freshman.

He's got decent jump shot mechanics for a 6'10 guy but its not a weapon anyone ever feared

He's got a good enough handle to blow past HS kids, but I never thought he'd be any more than a 1 or 2 dribble straight line drive guy in college.

His athleticism and footwork in the post is good (because he's so agile) but he didn't have any go-to finishing moves.

Most of my viewing of Giles was with USA basketball after his freshman and junior years. He looked like an incredible athlete with a huge motor. In retrospect, my opinion of him was probably buoyed by the fact that those teams were just so much better than their competition that they just basically globetrotter'd everyone.  Full court pressing and dunks for days.

This team is just broken right now. Major kudos to FSU, as they're very, very good. But Duke doesn't defend anyone (Tatum did so for a couple of games but has now just given up) and doesn't fit together.  Just shows how much I know. I thought this season would be a 35 win cakewalk to the final 4, despite the strength of the league and the lack of a true PG. Maybe injuries are a part of this, but I don't see it anymore.

Bolden is going to be K's version of Daniel Orton at this point. However, that would probably be a slight to Orton, as he was at least productive in limited minutes.

I was going to mention Bolden as well, but I didn't want to pile it on.  He looks worse than Jeter did last year which is saying something.

Just the same old, same old from Duke...no point guard and worrisome defense/rebounding.

Got owned in the paint...but that was to be expected to some extent with Amile out.

Injuries definitely a factor but it's really just the same old song most years.

Yup.  From what should have been a lock for the Final Four to what could very well be a lost season.  Disappointing, but as pointed out above, not really all that surprising.  You really have to catch lightning in a bottle when you play the one-and-done strategy, and we just did that about as well as it can be done two seasons ago.  Also, Duke's offense simply doesn't function without a true point guard or someone who can reliably simulate one (or better yet, two players who can reliably simulate one, as in 2010).

What am I missing with the push? The trips aren't debatable and were stupid/awful, but last night he was flying after a loose ball, and I think if I were going out of bounds I would try and shove anyone out of my way to keep from colliding head on into them.

He has lost all benefit of the doubt at this point IMO
And I agree with that completely. He's brought this microscope on himself. But again, I could be playing in a church league with my best friends and if I'm about to collide with people diving out of bounds I'd push anyone in my path out of the way to keep from banging heads or making even more contact if possible. If we try to get in his head I guess we can pretend his trips were a response to being fouled and done in anger, but why would he be angry at a coach on the sidelines?

I can't believe anyone is upset over the out of bounds play.

I think he should still be sitting over the last trip and tantrum, to be honest...but the out of bounds play?  You guys are seeing what you want to see there.

Glad its not just me. I have no problem calling him out for the trips, but I see nothing wrong with that out of bounds play. I do have a major problem with how crappy they are playing though. The tape on Tatum is so obvious to defend..when he drives, he won't pass, no matter how wide open a teammate is.  :wall:

FSU coach just released a statement defending him so I agree on this one but that guy just has no credibility left at all. He should have been dealt with a long time ago.

Well he did lose his captain status, which was a huge deal to him. Much bigger than the 1 game suspension. But there is zero room for anymore of that tripping crap. I think if he does it again he'll be kicked off the team. And I would think bounced out of the first round of the draft. He'd seriously have to be clinically insane to do it again.  :oldunsure:

This tweet from the FSU assistant should effectively end the latest incident discussion - includes a longer statement in the tweet:

I want to make this very clear! #givegraysonabreak @ESPN @TDOnline @Warchant @Noles247 @GraysonJAllen @DukeMBB

Hey I know that this is the Duke thread, but is there any chance FSU gets a #1 seed?
FSU wins in Chapel Hill on Saturday they probably move into the conversation, but ultimately, think ACC champ will have too many losses against a tough schedule to be a 1 seed. Kansas, UK paths toare fairly easy. West No. 1 probably goes to Gonzaga if they go undefeated. Then Nova likely in good shape for the other.

But FSU, Duke, UNC, Louisville and UVa are all in good shape for seeds in the 2-4 range.

Short answer is they should be especially if they get out of Chapel Hill with a win.

Here in the ACC we refer to that as an "indefinite" seed.

Also, obviously the answer is yes but they'd need an epic run through the conference schedule.  They'd probably have to go at least 12-4 given the weak OOC schedule.

They do have some impressive OOC wins though in Minny (#7 RPI) and FL (#3 RPI)...they're OOC strength gets killed with 3 plus 300 RPI teams.  They also have a relatively easy ACC schedule after the next 3 games against @UNC, ND, 'Ville.  They go 2-1 in those games and 12-4 is definitely doable as they only have @Duke left on their schedule (they only play UNC, 'Ville, UVa once).  It'll ultimately come down to how many of their road games they end up dropping.

Because it's Grayson.  Any other player and very few bat an eye.  Dude brought it on himself so any questionable thing he does is going to be looked at under a microscope, and with good reason.  Kids a classless punk but I agree nothing real malicious here.

Every now and then I wonder if it would be nicer if Duke were in a conference where they win it every year like Kansas.

But then again...what's the fun in that?

State is suddenly in a death spiral. Gott's seat is white hot right now. Didn't see this coming this year.

:lmao:    In the ACC, we also like to make up our own phony basketball programs when all we really care about is making snarky posts.  The basketball programs are just an excuse for the opportunity to keep our posters eligible to fire off mordant witticisms!  But the posters KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT.  Nothing!!  Dodds is investigating; we expect a six-year resolution process.
