2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (1 Viewer)

Right now.

I don't think OU is going to do it. But if they win out, they will have beaten OkSU on the road, TCU, WVU, and either OkSU/TCU a second time or revenged their loss to ISU. That ain't treading water.
Yeah, treading water isn’t accurate but they certainly haven’t been dominant like I thought they were going to be.

I still think OSU is in if they win out. They will have beaten PSU, Michigan State, Michigan and most likely an unbeaten Wisconsin. Their only loss will be an early loss to top team while they were still figuring things out. If the Bucks struggle in some of these games but still win then maybe that plays into it but I think they are looking good for the playoffs.

   I care about NFL for $.  I care about CFB because it is fun...this is way more interesting than 90% of "pro" events.

I was considering PSU as well, but then I thought Wisconsin needs to be added as well if their only loss is in the big ten title game and I'd rather not the way the rest of their schedule looks.
Let's not just completely forget about Washingt......ahhhh, #### it, I can't even feign to defend the Pac12 anymore.

They can have him if they want.  Hell of a recruiter, but yeah, I'm not loving his X's & O's.  He got his star QB murdered in September.  That's not smart.  Tim Tebow he is not.
Right. Super recruiter. Couldn't get usf past the hump in the sorry American. Hope the Gators spring for him.

From Chris Vannini of The Athletic, FWIW:

So what names could Florida go after?

It naturally starts with Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen, who was Meyer’s offensive coordinator at Florida for those two national titles. Stricklin was previously Mullen’s AD in Starkville. Mullen has shown interest in leaving in the past, but his $4.5 million salary was hard for some other schools to match. That wouldn’t be an issue for Florida, which paid McElwain around $4.4 million, according to USA Today.

“I want to be really careful, because I want to be respectful of their situation,” Stricklin said of Mullen and the Bulldogs during his Sunday night news conference. “They’ve got a good season going. I enjoyed working with Dan and I think he would probably say the same. Dan can be direct and I can be direct and sometimes we had direct conversations like you would anybody that you work with closely. He’s done a really nice job there, and as an alum of that school, I’m proud of the job he’s done at my alma mater.”

Who else? Scott Frost down the road at UCF could be a natural fit. His Knights are undefeated and making a lot of noise in the state after Frost took over a winless team two years ago.

Memphis head coach Mike Norvell is another sharp-minded offensive head coach and has kept the Tigers near the top after replacing Justin Fuente. South Florida head coach Charlie Strong has a defensive background, but he has deep ties to the state of Florida and has been a Gators assistant in four different stints. However, he also failed at his previous elite head coaching job.

It’s hard to see Fuente leaving a perfect fit like he has at Virginia Tech. Bob Stoops did not leave a top-five Oklahoma team to take over a messy Florida program — just look how happy he appears to be out of coaching. Every fan base thinks they can get Chip Kelly, but it’s always hard to predict what Kelly will do. Taggart may have fit if he didn’t go to Oregon last year.

A coach who won two division titles in two years was fired before the end of his third. You’d better find someone who does better.

After the last few pages, I am reminded of what a nightmare it is between the first announcing of the "top 4" and the actual final "top 4"....this is gonna suck isn't it?

Don't count on Mullen headed to Florida.  People like to make the connection of Mullen being the OC there under Meyer and now Stricklin being the AD, but reality is Mullen and Stricklin didn't get along.  Plus Mrs. Mullen has said a few times she is not a fan of Gainesville.   I'm sure money can sway anyone, but I doubt the Gators are wanting to go north of $5mil for a guy like Mullen.

There are a few places that would make me nervous about losing Mullen...Florida isn't one of them.

My hunch, Florida is Chip or bust.

Mrs. Mullen prefers Starville to Gainesville....wow.  That's like preferring syphilis to chlamydia.

I think Scott Frost would be a better hire than Chip.  Chip is not a deep south guy and his act won't play well down there.

Mullen backchannels his name out there for every job. He'll either eventually leave, or MIss St will keep on paying him enough and get to the point where he isn't reaching his worth and they'll call his bluff and allow him to leave.

The Mullens did not fit in with the Florida boosters.  They know how it works in Gainesville and they won't be going back.

Plus I've never heard of Starville, but Starkville is a great town to raise a family in.  :boxing:

If Florida wants Mullen he'll be in Gainesville. Miss St is like 4 levels beneath the Florida program. Sorry not sorry.

That was believable until the Chip Kelly name drop. Like an Arizona Ron story that gets good until he reveals he's wearing a wifebeater, jorts and crocs.

P.S. Gators are willing to give McElwain 4.2 Mil to go away.

Let Penn State win out so they are 11-1 with only a 1 point loss on the road against one of the potential playoff teams.

Really, what will cause the playoff to expand would be seeing Bama, UGA, and ND making it where Clemson, Ohio St (or PSU) and Oklahoma are fighting for one spot.
NO!  The only way it is going to more than 4 teams is if Alabama loses to Georgia and is left out.    ESPN can honk their horns all year day in and day out how the SEC got hosed.  No one can compete with their amount of coverage.

Yep. If you want an expanded playoff in the future, this is how you want this season to end (using current coaches poll, not where I expect them to be ranked at the end)

1 Alabama 12-1

2 Georgia 13-0

3 Ohio State 12-1

4 Wisconsin 12-1

5 Clemson 12-1

6 Miami 11-1 or 8 Notre Dame 11-1

7 Penn State 11-1

9 Oklahoma 12-1 or 10 Oklahoma State 12-1 or 12 TCU 12-1

11 Washington 12-1
Who are the four that get in if it finishes like this?

If Clemson finishes 12-1 they are in, no doubt. Obviously UGA and Ohio St would be in given the records you posted, and the rest of the Big 10 is out.

Miami and ND are not going to both finish 11-1. If if ends that way it means ND beat Miami, which means Miami didn't lose a conference game and will have to play in the ACC Championship. If ND finishes with one-loss they are probably in, so there's your four under that scenario. One-loss Big 12 champ is probably next in line. SECC is a play-in game. Sucks for Bama but oh well.

It'll end up being way cleaner than we can foresee right now. Always is.

If UGA and Bama are undefeated at the sec title game they are both going in. None of those teams you mentioned would have a better resume.

Nah, strongly disagree. They aren't ready for two from the same conference, not at the expense of all those other 1 loss teams that would exist in his scenario.

I guess we will see if that crazy specific scenario plays out. I think it's pretty much impossible that a one-loss ND team gets left out, so you're telling me they will bump the defending champ or Ohio State for a team that just lost? I don't see it.

Still would be crazy if it's Georgia that loses to the clear #1 team in the country and they don't get in over the team that they beat on the road.  I love it.   Madness.

I mean Ty Willingham will be in there throwing his weight around. He's a very convincing man. Clemson and OSU's ADs are on the friggin committee.

Why would they take Notre Dame over a team with a similar if not better resume that just beat them on the road. That doesn't make any sense at all.
