2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (1 Viewer)

Teams go from 7 penalties/game to 3.7 vs Bama.
Interesting. I wonder what the stats are for the number of called penalties, as opposed to that one which I assume is the number of accepted penalties. Do blowout wins lead to more declined penalties in order to take the results of the play?  Which would be an interesting thing to look at for blowouts versus closer games in general.  Don't know of a source to even start to get at that.  For NFL you could maybe build a data set from PFR's play by play tool though even that might take a lot of work. I don't know of a play by play source at all for CFB.

It ***IS*** the Pac-12 you're talking about; everyone knows that defense is optional west of the Rockies. :coffee:
All the more reason why that Washington loss at ASU is easily the most head-scratching game I have watched all season.

Also the # of offensive and total plays/game for those teams on average vs the Alabama games. Both probably lower than normal if Bama is just plowing over people and keeping the clock running.

I thought about that too, and that leads to even more questions since you can be penalized both on offense and defense.

Do teams get penalized more on offense or defense?  I'm guessing defense but that's nothing but a guess just now.  Also, are penalties declined at the same rate on offense and defense?

Facing a much better offense might increase defensive penalties, but so might facing a much better defense increase offensive penalties.  Again just guessing, I'd think maybe penalties on the secondary would climb, but so could offensive holding. But then again maybe the refs put their whistles away in a blowout enough the calls drop.  Just have no idea what factors would win out, and whether it would be enough to be significant.

Good thought topic though.

But ASU had given up > 30 points a game for an eternity. No reason the kicker should have even needed to get off the plane for that one.
It was a weird game.  It was a bad game.  It might have been a different game had the kicker made those kicks.  Good teams can lose to bad teams in a season - see Ohio State vs V. Tech in 2014.

Well, looks like Michigan is starting Peters in the Little Brown Jug game. Probably the best option, to help the kid learn.

Side note, living somewhat near FAU, they're claiming their running back is getting Heisman hype. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Remember when the Gator defense was supposed to be decent? That was this season,  right?

I know they've had injuries but for Mizzou to tear you up is indefensible.

Sounds like the weather delay in Spartyville could be lengthy

ETA They said weather system is coming out of South Bend. Dammit Notre Dame

If only they had delayed the game in Ann Arbor a few weeks ago, maybe O'Korn wouldn't have sucked so bad

Florida is terrible but they really are a shell of themselves talent-wise...in addition to all the suspensions, they’ve got the 7th most talented roster in the SEC according to 247.  Mac does not recruit.
