2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (3 Viewers)

The last time Wisconsin played Ohio St. in the Big 10 Championship game (a few years ago), Ohio St. were 4 point favorites and won the game 59-0.

Assuming nothing crazy happens next weekend, I expect Ohio St. to be about a touchdown favorite when the game kicks off on Dec. 2, possibly -7.5.
Do you think this Wisconsin group actually has a shot?

The guy made it to the Orange Bowl in year two.  I'm not even sure what point you guys are trying to make.  He has that program in a much better place than it was under Hoke.  He hasn't been bad by any means but no he hasn't won a national championship either.
He has had it in better shape than Hoke, my point is he hasn’t quite lived up to the expectation either.  He’s the 3rd highest paid coach  at arguably the most prestigious football school around and he hasn’t given much to write home about.  By my count, in 3+ years he’s only beaten two teams ranked in the top 15.

I think it'll be over 10.

It's fine. Keep doubting Wisconsin. They absolutely have a shot if only for their defense which is legit. That said, their issue is starting slow. They've been killing teams in the 2nd half. Can't wait until then against tOSU

I like Wisconsin. I don't have anything against them. I would root for them over Bama, Clemson, Miami for sure. I just don't think they are very good.

Iowa was ranked. Northwestern is now ranked after rattling off 6 in a row. BYU was ranked 5 years ago.

Tell me again who Bama has beat? I'll hang up and listen. Pretty sure that Mercer win means they could beat the Patriots.

We don't need to do this again. I'm hungover this time, not drunk so I don't have the energy.
Wisconsin is the only team that needs to win their way in. Clemson in there is a joke. They lost to Syracuse and beat 2 ranked teams? One was in Sept, when supposedly those games don't count as much?

Joke

Before their bowl game? Man, that's cold.

Oh, wait.....

Rumor is the school had a hologram of Chip Kelley on campus at 9am this morning.
Lol. I would bet on chip going there. UF is a way better job but probably not a better match for him.

He should be able to kill at ucla.

Kelly would make sense. The QB committed to UCLA, from Gorman, and this Amon Ra kid from Mater Dei who is also committed to the Bruins, both look like Oregon type players. Speed speed speed.

Speaking of Mater Dei high school in Santa Ana, they are ranked #1 in the nation and they look it. They just killed powerhouse LB Poly in the playoffs; it wasn’t close. The QB, JT Daniels, looks incredible- he’s only a junior but already committed to USC (like his predecessors Leinart and Barkley.) The Poly QB, also ranked pretty high, is a white transfer from Oaks Christian to a mostly black school- he’s heading to Florida.

MaxPreps show them as 2, but they are probably the number 1 "real" high school.  We played IMG Academy, they have more 4 and 5 stars on their team than the entire state of Alabama.  $75K a year in tuition for high school.  Left tackle is 400 pounds :)

Some states have prohibited their teams from playing them in the future (it was in a WSJ article I read but can't link to, I think it includes Texas and Georgia).  My son said his friends on the team enjoyed playing them, and they kept it respectable.

That was close. Point remains, 0 wins, 0 division titles.  They haven’t finished above 3rd in their own division yet and appear to have take a step backwards this season.

Michigan isn’t the winningest program of all time, so I understand a little bit of dissatisfaction with the results. The 10 win stuff doesn’t mean much to me anyway... last season 18 of the top 25 teams won 10 or more.
If by "taking a step backward" you mean graduating 15 of 22 starters and 11 to the NFL draft. Then yes, I agree they took a step back.

Who competes after losing 15 starters? Alabama? Ohio State? Great, thats not Michigan and nobody expects that in his 3rd year.

You must not know the Michigan fans I know.  My Kalamazoo family with their “Bo’s Final Season” DVD on loop think they’re on the level of those teams and should have no issue competing.  I don’t care either way, I’ve got no strong feelings about Michigan or Harbaugh.

So you are saying they shouldn't even play the game?

Of course they have a shot.
Not trying to throw shade, just haven't caught them this season and hard to tell much from their schedule

Poly is the largest school in the state, might be the largest in the country, but it is by no means a "mostly black school".

MD has a tuition of $40K.  Oaks Christian $30K.

Robbie Andreu who covers the Gators just confirmed publicly Florida officials are flying back to Florida tonight without Chip and without a deal in place.

Mullen time imo

My cousin is a HS coach.  Way back, when Harbaugh was at USD, he came to my cousin’s school to watch tape on some prospects.

They were watching film of a Blue Chip QB and Harbaugh kept making comments on how good the kid looked.

”Great arm...look at that footwork...awesome release”  Just gushing.

Then, in all seriousness, he says “that kid reminds me of a...of a....of a young Jim Harbaugh.”

:lmao:

my wife's grandfather worked Michigan sidelines for 45 years. Said when Jim was a kid, he was the worsssssssssssst. Just a grade-A doosh of a kid (doosh my word: grandpa would never).

Even at 90 years old he would watch the games with us and get confused at which was Jim and which was John. "Is that Jim? I couldn't stand him. Did I ever tell you that when he was a kid....."

Gotta be honest with you, that’s a  pretty good story but I was expecting more out of you than this.

I’ve got a decent Tommy Bowden story...

Senior year, Ludacris is playing the rugby field at Clemson.  This is around 2003, so we’re at the height of Ludacris popularity with “Roll Out” and “Move #####” in major rotation on every radio station.  Combine that with $10 student tix and we were ready to go.  We drive over from the apartment and park at the baseball fields. At this point in time, the coach’s offices were still on that part of campus and as we trek from the baseball lot to the rugby fields, we pass right behind those offices. As we’re walking by we look over about 20ft to our right, and there’s Tommy grabbing something out of his car and heading back in to work. We yell out “Hey Tommy!!” to which he replied “Hey Fellas!! Are ya’ll going to see Delicious!?”

I still love Tommy B.

So what's holding Harbaugh back at UM?  According to 247, they're 7th nationally in total team talent, 2nd the in the B1G.  Penn State is 3rd at 19th overall.

I know the QB has been his biggest issue.  I'd also say he could spend less time on some low-impact but attention-getting aspects.
But that's the best part of watching him.

If I were a ref, I'd make a bad call on purpose just to see him lose it and get another $10,000 fine.
