2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (3 Viewers)

They are in the East. Besides Georgia, the East is terrible.
Just repeating what I’ve been saying for 5 years here...UT is at best the #5 job in their own conference now.  Probably #6 with TAMU.  Level with SoCar. IMO. It’s a cool college town and has money...but the rest have those too. Not as easy as just throwing money at someone.

The Taggart rumor just blows my mind. When was the last time a coach moved across country for huge jump in competition and a year later moved back to another big school after a 7-5 season?

Wow

@DanWolken: Source: Florida State officials have  started doing background work on Oregon coach Willie Taggart in preparation for the possibility Jimbo Fisher takes the Texas A&M job.
I don’t know how I’d feel about this... I think I’d rather Jimbo stick around.

So whoever Tennessee hires, they know that they were in line behind:

Gruden

Schiano

Cutcliffe

Gundy

Chad Morris (refused interview)

Zak Morris (talks fell apart when his past with Screech raised red flags)

Marty Smith (trying to keep pace with ASU and he's more likeable than Gary Danielsen)

Not sure I have that list right
They also know that the decision-makers are easily swayed by local public opinion... even after verbal agreements.  But hey, who wouldn't want that kind of work environment?

I'll be fine if Jimbo stays. But it sounds like it's pretty broken now. The big money guys are tired of this shtick every year and at the risk of sounding like lhucks here, this job isn't exactly a MAC job. The coach shouldn't be looking to leave every year. I think people are really tired of it especially after this season.

There's other things too. Jimbo's pace on offense is the second-slowest in FBS ahead of only Utep. He never goes for it on 4th down. Every game is a ####ing grind. The guy doesn't use his massive talent advantage. He coaches every game like he's a 10-point underdog. It's maddening.

I guess all in all, if we get Taggert I'm good with him going. He's a real moron though for taking that particular job.

that total jackalope bert beilema is looking for a job still so maybe tenn vols can hire him and watch him stink up that program for a couple of years take that to the he is a traitor bank bromigos

Sounds like TN may be close with Brohm.

If that happens, that's a great hire imo. Much better than Schiano. Poor Purdue.

Yeah, as much as I'd like to roast Clay for killing the Schiano deal, Brohm is certainly a much better hire if they can get it done.

Football Scoop is pretty much the go-to on all this stuff and they seem to be the only ones saying to pump the brakes on Brohm to UT.

Clay Travis tweeted that UT's chancellor refused to approve the AD's offer to Brohm (which Brohm had accepted), and Brohm turned down the lesser amount.

Other reports suggest UT is now talking to Dave Doeren.

Lololololololol. Dave Doeren?  Seriously?  They deserve each other.

What was your favorite part of the Jeff Brohm era at Tennessee? He had a tough job picking up the pieces after the Gundy era ended.

Yeah, I don't think Taggert is going anywhere.  He's set up really nicely the next year or two here.  He was at the PK80 sitting between Phil and Penny Knight and they were laughing and bee bopping together.  I know FSU is a powerhouse and Taggert loves Florida, but Eugene, Oregon is a very nice place to live with the kind of money he's now making (new contract $20MM/5 Year) with the kind of backing and facilities he has in place.....this is a good gig too.

Meanwhile, Oregon State has a coach:

Oregon State: Washington offensive coordinator Jonathan Smith will be named head coach at Oregon State, according to The Oregonian's John Canzano. Smith is a former Oregon State quarterback and graduate assistant. He’s spent the past four years at Washington.

Feel like it's going to end with Dave Doeren spurning UT after getting the extension he so desperately wants from NC State.
Doeren's agent is putting his name out there so State will extend him. He's 10th out of 12 coaches in salary with Richt and Babers salary unknown in an article I saw.  Doeren deserves the extension, IMO.

The guy I think Tennessee is interviewing in the Triangle is Larry Fedora.  He's not gonna stay at Carolina and wants one of the SEC jobs.

Looks like Chip Kelly is trying to bring Steve Greatwood (OL coach), Tom Osborne (TE/STs) and Jerry Azzinaro (DC) aboard, who were all with him at Oregon.  Greatwood and Azzinaro are currently on Cal's staff.  Any Oregon fans have insights into them?  The UCLA people seem happy with all three.

I heard Tom Osborne is a pretty good coach.

i just heard an internet rumor that the vols hired vince lombardo thinking that he was vince lombardi but it ends up that vince lombardo just sells tomatoes at the public market in the third ward and now tenn is screwed because they are paying him 20 mil a year and all he can really do is sell tomatoes but on the plus side that guy does sell the hell out of tomatoes so they are thinking about renaming the whole state old pasta top take that to the bank bromigos

Apparently the source was Willie Taggart's agent.

I think Azzinaro is a lock to go with Chip.  Greatwood and Osborne were long time Duck coaches and I think they are good coaches.   They are older and rumor was they really slacked on the recruiting trail towards the end at Oregon.  John Neal will likely join Chip in my opinion, he is defensive back coach.  I also would not be surprised to see Mark Helfrich as offensive coordinator.

I admit that I laughed when Tee Martin was brought up originally. I didn't realize he had been an OC for a few years. He really is the only name that makes sense at this point because:

A) Vols really need somebody who won't turn them down

B) If your budget doesn't allow enough money to pry Jeff Brohm away from a football powerhouse like Purdue,  it's time to start looking at coordinators.

Just leak something like "officials in Knoxville are extending their search into next week in order to evaluate coaches playing this weekend".
