2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (1 Viewer)

No he was cleared of any wrongdoing.

To be honest Butch Davis is a recycled name I think should be part of the game.  He got a raw deal IMO.
He's done a nice job at Florida International in his first season.

Well, at least until they run into the buzz saw they're going to face Saturday.

God Leach would be an amazing hire. No way Tennessee pulls that off.
I wonder if Leach feels he's hit the ceiling with what he can do at Wazoo, even with Falk and (presumably) Bledsoe's kid in the pipeline.

Last week's Apple Cup proved they've got a ways to go to be in UW's league. Oregon is getting better, regardless of who is coaching there. Stanford is going nowhere. And that doesn't even account for USC and now Kelly and UCLA in the other division.

He did a nice job getting his image back in Pullman after the whole thing at Texas Tech. #CJK5H But he hasn't really had a ton of consistent success beyond having Connor Halliday throw it 100 times a game.

It also sounds like he's a little annoyed that they still don't have an AD and/or he's not getting to help pick the new one. Then there's the small issue that UT will be offering him a truckload of cash.

Also, don't you kind of get the feeling with Leach, that maybe he's just the sort of crazy ******* that wouldn't have been interested in the job UNTIL it became a fiasco?

Either way, please let this happen.

Wait, how did Akron get into the MAC championship game? They looked terrible early in the year. I figured they were toast after losing to Miami OH.

I guess it's like the old saying goes- On any given Tuesday....

All I know is I'm taking ULM and the points on Saturday.

Players aren't going to "win one for Jimbo". And I can't see them being psyched for the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl.

FSU wins but in a low scoring sloppy affair.

Mike Leech would be amazing just for the media coverage.  The Vol Navy would definitely need a rebranding to something pirate-related, though.

I agree with all of this, but I wonder if that’s his ceiling as a coach too. He’s like Paul Johnson a little bit, just with a different tactic.  Talented enough to beat up on teams lacking superior talent which gets your 8 wins and maybe snake an upset here or there.  When you play the top talent though, it’s not much of a contest.

Paul Johnson frustrates me as much as anyone at times but that’s more about losses to teams like duke and uva than games against superior talent.

Hes won the last two times we’ve gone to UGA and three of last five including Staffords senior season.  He’s 3-2 against FSU. He’s 5-6 against Clemson and beat them in an ACCCG. He’s won three of last four against Va Tech.  He also destroyed Miss St in an orange bowl.  I wouldn’t say it’s no contest against superior teams.

That’s fair, just recency bias on my part. My step-dad and one of his sons are GT alums, so I get an earful of PJ hate whenever I go over there recently.

Hey, the PAC managed to get their championship game on ESPN by playing it on high school football night. Good for them!

I like Paul Johnson and think he is a fine coach, but I agree with bigmarc27.  GTech is never going to reach a 4 team playoff, IMO.  The triple option just isn't going to beat big, strong, talented defenses.  Especially a talented defense that has a month to prepare for that offense.  Everyone is covered sideline to sideline.  The occasional TE or FB sneaking out for a pass will be the biggest play.

Clemson was beginning their rise as a program in 2009 when Tech beat them in the ACC title game.  That was Swinney's first full season as head coach.  They didn't have the types of defenses back then like they've had the last couple of years.

That being said, yes, Georgia Tech can slow the game down and win on any given Saturday.  But giving a top ranked team weeks to prepare doesn't bode well for an option offense, in my opinion.  I wouldn't say it's no contest against superior teams, but it will be very difficult for them to win a playoff game.

Well, we aren't discussing whether GT can be a top 4 playoff team.  I doubt anyone thinks that can happen between our recruiting limitations and schedule we play every year (Clemson as crossover, Georgia every year, and often another SEC team too though not next year).

The discussion was whether Paul Johnson doesn't put up much of a contest against superior teams.  That's factually incorrect as I pointed out based on his success against Georgia, FSU, Clemson and Va Tech.  He wins plenty of those games for a perennial 7-8 win school and they aren't just getting lucky on any given Saturday.

The 2009 Clemson team he beat had C.J. Spiller (who went nuts in that game, by the way).  It wasn't some chump team he beat.  He beat them in 2014 with Watson (played half the game before getting injured, Gallman, Humphries, A. Scott, and Leggett if I recall correctly.  He beat them in 2011 with Tahj Boyd, Sammy Watkins, DeAndre Hopkins, and I believe Martavis Bryant too.  So yes he has beaten Clemson when they have had superior talent which is what we were discussing.

Anyway, we can get back to laughing at Tennessee.

Tennessee has fired John Currie.   :lmao:

Easily the most botched coaching search I can ever remember.  Their internet fans led by Clay Travis are running this search.

My sources tell me that Phil Fulmer and Peyton Manning are going to head a coaching search and that Leach actually would rather go to Arkansas

Brett McMurphy✔@Brett_McMurphy

Sources: John Currie was prepared to hire Mike Leach but university officials wouldn’t allow him to do so. Phillip Fulmer has been sabotaging search process in hopes to become Tennessee’s AD

I hope this never ends

Sounds like Jimbo may be in Texas right now. 10 years, 80-85 million  :lmao:

Apparently the contract does not stipulate that Jameis Winston will be his QB for the first 3 seasons so A&M may want to re-think things.

Roger that.  I've always been a PJ fan and I like Navy and that offense.  I just don't think it will ever get the team over the hump in a college playoff system.

And I wouldn't mind seeing Tennessee down for another 10 years.

Thank the lord for Volnation on a slow Friday at work:

Wow, for that kind of money why wouldn't you leave?  Assuming Jimbo leaves, who do you think is the next FSU coach?  Who do you want to be the next coach?

Taggert for both. Fuente if Taggert won't do it.
I would be shocked if Taggart left Oregon after 1 year.  I would guess perhaps a 20% chance he bolts.  I heard a rumor FSU is preparing to offer him $20MM for 5 years, which is what he would make at Oregon.  Count in the fact he has an unbelievable recruiting class coming in and an easier path to the playoffs on the Pac 12 with Clemson and Miami doing well.

Fuente pretty much helped GT beat VT this year.  Guy was throwing bombs on 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1 when we couldn't stop their running game.  Going for 4th and 3's early in the game in the redzone instead of taking points.  It felt like Ray Goff was coaching VT that day.

I would say it's a 20% chance he stays (maybe more like 35%, I'm sure he likes it there). Fsu is a top destination job. Oregon really is not. Plus he's from Florida. Not trying to be a putz, just the way it is.

Also, all those Oregon recruits would just be coming with him. That doesn't factor into it at all.

Yea WT is #1 for me, but I think he's done a decent job at Virginia Tech. I didn't see that game but most seem to think he is a very good coach.

If Phil Knight wants to keep Taggert, I’m sure he can keep Taggert. I just don’t know if he wants to dig that deep.

We will find out soon enough!  If FSU doesn't offer $6-7 MM a year then Taggart will stay.  No doubt FSU is a destination job, but Oregon is no slouch either.  I'm sure some of the Florida recruits would go with him but to say all the recruits would go with him is foolish.  FSU gets top 5 recruiting classes every year.  Oregon is in line to get their 1st top 5 recruiting class ever.  Taggart has proven you can recruit to Oregon and he knows the future is very good if he stays at Oregon.  Herbert will be a junior at QB next year and a future top pick NFL QB.  Phil Knight is a big draw to stay as he love Taggart.

Fsu isn't going to pay him 6-7. No way. Obviously Oregon can match whatever amount but FSU is a place consistently in the national title picture.

And your point about recruiting to Oregon is true. Now imagine what he could do at FSU.

Also, as to his loyalty -- he left usf, a place 75 minutes away from his hometown to go across the country. No reason to think he won't do the same to the Ducks.

I'm not saying it's a slam dunk but I would be surprised if he didn't go to FSU if offered. But I also didn't think Jimbo would take a step down in jobs to get crushed in the SEC west over money either.

I can't believe FSU is putting up with the "Is Jimbo staying or leaving?"    I would think FSU would be if you want to look at other jobs let us help you out...you're fired.

True...that was LY I think when you said it.

Just messing w you man...u know what happens when u make definitive statements here.
Gotcha, I think I said that a few years ago.  Last year I predicted Washington was overrated and they proceeded to make the playoffs.  Glad you guys spanked them!

A&M fan today on twitter:

????@ lesser program. Keep poking the bear. A&M could buy FSU's football program and use it as there own personal flag football facility. Love those shots you keep sending Bud

fsu guy (bud Elliott): A&M can "buy FSU's football program", but can't buy color TV highlights of its last national title because the technology didn't exist in 1939.

:own3d:
