Watching Wentz last pm shows why the Jets should have gone through and tanked this year....Eagles will be contenders for 15 yrs. Jets will get the 10th pick and likely grab another defensive player...hoping the top teams are willing to trade out...Wentz worth everything the Eagles traded for him and more....if a deal is possible the JEts should trade the farm for a top blue chip QB
Who are the Jets supposed to be tanking for?
When your record is 3-10 and some college dude is clearly identifiable as a near lock to become the next great NFL player, then
maybe you start a bunch of backups the final three weeks. (Right now maybe only the Penn State running back is clearly identifiable as a near lock to become the next great NFL player. Certainly, none of the quarterbacks have looked that way.)
Heck, a strong case can already be made that the Jets already
are "tanking." They got rid of a bunch of "name" players in the offseason. I suppose they could have forfeited all the games.
Petty got injured in preseason and Hackenberg showed nothing. How was either one of them starting in Week 1?
The theme in this thread is that Josh McCown should have never been acquired because he's too good. Ditto Jeremy Kerley and Jermaine Kearse. They Jets should have just taken the draft pick from Seattle and said, "The pick is enough. We don't want Kearse."
From Week 1 the starting lineup should have included Hackenberg (only because Petty was unhealthy in Week 1), Chad Hansen, and ArDarius Stewart. Anybody over the age of 27 should not be on the roster.
Todd Bowles should have been fired and somebody who cannot coach his way out of a paper bag should have been hired. After all, we all know a good head coach will find ways to win games even with inferior talent. Heck, the great Rich Kotite found a way to win 3 games with the talent-starved 1995 Jets. I thought you guys all consider Bowles to be hot garbage. He should be the perfect coach for tank purposes then.
You guys are wanting Bowles to purposefully lose games in order to not have to trade up to draft a top quarterback in the 2018 draft although none of you know which quarterback. You want all the young players to play but not play well (because if they play well, the team
will win). You are also asking for the two younger quarterbacks to play and wanted one of them playing from the start of the season just to make sure the team even needs to draft a quarterback in the first round in 2018. Therefore, if one of them shows anything good, then we want to develop a time machine to undo the tank thinking and then restart from Week 1 with serious designs to actually win games.

I understand the need to find a franchise quarterback but I have not read in this thread any legitimate plans to acquire one other than this tanking talk which does not make much sense the way all of you have laid things out.
I still believe things would naturally play themselves out and if the Jets are smart in the offseason, they will get a franchise quarterback. If that involves trading multiple draft picks, then SO BE IT! The Eagles didn't tank. Neither did the Texans.
