2018 College Football Thread: Local man buys some teenage champions a 4 for 4 (2 Viewers)

While I am drunk and ranting I’m so sick of the call on the field being a factor. I don’t give a #### what the dumb ### back judge decided in the moment, watch the video and make a call.

I’m probably coming off as critical of him itt which isn’t fair, he’s the only reason OU is playing tonight. He is an amazing cfb player.
What is interesting to me is he's not distinguishing himself at all here. If a person hadn't watched the 2018 CFB season, I'm not sure he'd pick him out as special from this first half. Is it all the Alabama Defense?

Yup. That's part of the deal. It's Belichick frustrated he's behind schedule for next year when they play deep in the postseason. Always unsatisfied.
Saban has actually admitted a few times that he’s ‘satisfied’...he’s more human than BB.

He’s awesome. He’s 5’8” or so and the draft nuts thinks he’s at worst a 2nd round pick in the nfl draft if he was going to MFL.

It’s a big part of it for sure. They’ve seen nothing close to this D all season and haven’t played a game in a month. He’s having to make quick decisions and is missing easy throws

Alabama defense + Saban having 3 weeks to gameplan + large early deficit

If nothing else hopefully this game convinces him to go baseball. I think I’d rather play center field than get killed by dudes like this for less money

drunk or not this has to be the next big rule change in college and the NFL

I admittedly haven't studied him closely but 2nd round seems like a stretch to me. Everyone looking for the next Mahomes will help but just doesn't seem like he's got it.

That's fair, assuming you're just talking about success on the field. Although I do think tradition is a benefit. LSU is still really good, which Alabama would be without Saban.

I'm looking at the full package, for all fans. There's something special when Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and USC succeed.
I agree that's two separate things.  When it comes to on field success, it's all about recruiting and development.  Today the kids only see the success.  That's what put Justyn Ross at Clemson was the success they've had lately with NFL WR.  He said as much on why he went there.  To them, it's all about the next level and they think they can out compete anyone for that job.  While it's admirable in some ways, and some will use Tua or Trevor Lawrence as a reason they can, look at Justin Fields at UGA.  He should have never came to UGA to be behind Fromm.  That was a mistake on his part.  Had Hurts played well in the title game last year, Tua likely ends up elsewhere this year.  The Alabama RB depth chart is another example.  You have 3-4 guys who would be feature backs almost anywhere else.  They may well all be NFL successes.  But it's likely some won't be drafted as high from not being featured so they'll lose that initial contract money or at the very least they'll need to wait an extra season to leave for the draft and lose that year of earnings as well.  But they all think they can beat the others out when they commit.  Right now Clemson, Alabama, and UGA are on another level from roster talent and depth.  They get quantities of top 250-300 recruits that no other school does, year in and year out.  Kirby Smart could sell his NFL pipeline he started while at Bama and has transitioned that to UGA.

I don't know how good Alabama would be without Nick Saban.  Look at the last coaches there before him.  Middling is the best adjective you can give to their tenures.  We obviously can't say who would have came there to be coach had Nick Saban not come.  Keep in mind, he's only there because Rich Rodriguez had a change of heart back in 2007.  Where would Alabama be had Rich Rod been the coach starting in 2007?  Nick Saban leaves Miami anyway and ends up at another power job.  There's no magic anymore to the name programs other than donor dollars.

Knute Rockne, The Four Horsemen, Win one for the Gipper, Touchdown Jesus will never die.  And there is the problem with ND that and the fact they can't recruit like the other name schools can.

College football loves that tradition, they NEED, The Fighting Irish, forget the fact they lack those size with speed athletes like we see at Bama, Clemson.  They lack team speed.

As long as they are limited with who they can recruit nothing will change.

They have managers to run out and wipe the sweat off players but they can't find a cart to take a guy to the locker room when he can't walk?
