2018 College Football Thread: Local man buys some teenage champions a 4 for 4 (1 Viewer)

Oh come on. There’s audio where she says stop hitting my face and he replies something like I’m going to keep hitting you in your face until you learn. She’s covering for him.
New thread title should be “FSU BDSM Club president has entered the transfer portal.”

Few people will care about this but -

Tyrone Wheatley is expected to be the next head coach at Morgan State, sources told @FootballScoop

--

Good for TWheat. I hope he does really well.

This used to be one of the best sports days of the year.  It's like when the NFL moved the draft and ruined a great weekend.

@InsideTheGators: Florida four-star athlete target Mark-Antony @Mark21Richards Richards has committed to Auburn over the Gators, Georgia and Miami.

Meh. Recruiting hasn’t been amazing but this isn’t a big deal. Certainly not a “huge blow”.

From tomahawk nation: “Come 2020, FSU would project to have James Blackman with two years of eligibility remaining, and Jordan Travis with three, in addition to Jeff Sims, the 2020 QB for whom FSU beat out Penn State, Georgia, Virginia Tech, and Tennessee over the weekend.”

Can Willie make it to 2020 if Blackman is only scholarship QB in 2019?

Seems weird to me as well.  He could get almost any job in college or NFL.    Maybe he is getting good money and doesn't have to do much.
Does he need money?  I can only read this as “damn, I still want to coach. I probably shouldn’t have stepped aside.”

Every season I buy Liddy's 2018 (year) College Football Preview magazine.

We forget there are over 70 conferences that play college football not counting JC's.  Tons of schools we have never heard of.  Coe? Tiffin? Blufton?

Most  just get into the big schools, not me.  The NAIA?

Lot more college football than just the big dawgs.

Big fan of those HBCU schools.

Do you bet on CFB?

Do you bet on CFB?
It's too time consuming trying to do the homework for all those teams. And the time spent there taking away from my NFL plays.

So, nope!

I did think about just working the Pac12, then found out it's a lot harder dealing with those huge numbers than a 3-8 we usually find in pro ball.

Taggart recruited QB Braxton Burmeister to Oregon and he is in the transfer portal, I wonder if Willie will go after Braxton.
One can only hope.  When I think of the worst Oregon QBs to ever play a game, I start with Brady Leaf at 1 and Braxton at 2.  Both made Justin Roper look like Brett Favre.

For some reason, Oregon promoted two young, inexperienced defensive assistants to "co-defensive coordinators".  Guess who didn't appreciate that?

Dumb.
So they demoted him? He’s one of the best coordinators in the country and they’re paying him almost 2M a year?

Edit: after reading the twitters I see they straight up fired him. Okay then.

Blake Carrienger, 6'6, 315 lb offensive tackle out of Grace Christian Academy is created out of thin air by some HS students. He tweets out that he has an offer from Alabama, and both 247 and Rivals put him in their database and rank him as a 3-star. Basically, both sites were catfished.

Rivals ranked him as a 5.5 3-star based on the Bama offer alone. No video available, no film, nothing to evaluate on, just numbers and an alleged offer.

I thought 247 just aggregated rankings, so their 3 star ranking was just pulling the Rivals rank into their database?

Recruiting PSA 1 of 2: Yday a national recruiting service rated a prospect that doesn’t exist. Unfortunately, that service’s public data contributes to the 247 Composite. While appalling, I am not surprised. (continued ...)

Continued ... Ironically, it was same lil brother service that took shots at 247 on NSD. In order to insure that never occurs again neg impacting the Composite, 247 has a new protocol where prospects are no longer given a Composite rating w/o also having a 247Sports rating.

Sounds like there was a financial settlement between Oregon and Leavitt where Oregon is not on the hook for the entire $5.1 million he was in line to make over the next 3 years.  If Leavitt finds employment elsewhere it will be lowered more.

I liked Leavitt so I too am worried about an unproven DB coach taking over as DC.

Any word on what led to this?  Is it them not letting him interview for head coaching spots?  I'm bummed about it.

2.5 to let a really good DC just walk away is insane.

Here's Canzano's article.  Doesn't really shed too much light.  I think he resented the promotion of two assistants to co-defensive coordinator and was pissed he didn't get a head coaching offer.  Cristobal noticed the discontent and severed what was already an awkward relationship between the two.

This is from 247 founder Shannon Terry, who also built and left Rivals. How they are even still alive is baffling.

Holy moly. If true - this seems huge - (from twitter)

Source confirmed Wisconsin quarterback Alex Hornibrook is in the transfer portal. First reported by @mzenitz

he's kind of not good

also, when did "transfer portal" become a term?  in the last 4-5 months? never heard it before then but i'm not up on college football like a lot of you guys are.

I think its new this year. Part of a step to pretend to give the athletes more freedom.

And Hornibrook is pretty good. I mean - he is a senior QB. Do they have a stud behind him?

I never thought Hornibrook was that good either.  But it seems odd to transfer at this point in his college career.  Maybe his girlfriend broke up with him after she read he didn't grade out that great by NFL scouts.  So he's transferring to prove himself to her.  Or maybe a coach or someone upset him.. Freshman beat him out in spring practice... who knows?

5th year senior. technically, redshirt senior.

seems to be the trend lately. 5th year guys move on.

Sconnie fans for the most part are spoiled by the likes of Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers and expect their 18-22 year olds to be the same. Hornibrook was/is a solid QB for what the Badgers asked of him. Much like Joel Stave (who ended his career with a number of Wisconsin records) he deserved some valid criticism but was overall an "OK" quarterback. Career clipboard holder in the CFL.

I'm sure Graham Mertz will be draw no ire after his first interception /rational thought

PS oh hey @Capella enjoy polishing this turd

I really don't see this as a negative for WI. Not sure what they have behind Hornibrook but Hornibrook was perhaps the most inconsistent QB I have ever seen. He could have a great game followed up by 3 stinkers. The stinkers far outweighed the single great game. Can't imagine them pulling a QB off the street and him being more inconsistent.

well, there's Coan who is basically Hornibrook. then a couple if highly touted guys behind him. @strykerpks will probably know more. i think they have a 4 or 5* freshman QB coming in this year who is expected to compete right away.

Mertz is a 4* kid from Kansas. I believe Rivals has him as the #2 or 3 QB in the country. Set some All American Bowl records earlier this year. He had a stupid stat line that was something like 7/12 for 200 yards and 5 TDs. Kid looks pretty solid. Not sure if Chryst will have him start right away or not. Will have to see how the spring goes.
